I don't see why they won't use the Funi cast? I mean it's cheaper and I really doubt there is any A list stars that would like to work on this project. I doubt they will released this only in subs, but then again who knows?

I doubt sub only as well. If there is a theatrical run it'll probably be dubbed. Most if not all animation that is from another country is dubbed before theatrical distribution.

That's true but I would guess Fox will likely use the Funi cast. I can't imagine them hiring big name actors like Bruce Willis for the movie .

Government-funded DBZ? Imagine if they did that in the US. People would riot. Taxpayer money going to a cartoon? They'd be considered welfare leeches.

Also, they definitely need to use the Kai cast for the English dub, where applicable (not likely too many replacements will even be necessary, since most of the original cast returned). In fact, replace some of the ones that returned for Kai. Cynthia Cranz, for one.

It would make sense to get the Funi cast (either Z or the new Kai cast) but I'm worried that Fox will try and target the general audience. "Staring Matt Damon" and "Natalie Portman" would probably get the general publics eye more then "Staring Kyle Herbert and Kara Edwards".

Has fox done other Japanese animation? I can't remember off the top of my head if they were responsible for the first Totoro dub (which wsnt bad at all).

It's so irritating that Fox is involved in this and making me have to worry about the voices because of it. Even though I prefer the Japanese voices to Funi's, I still like Funi's enough and know there's a lot of people who do where I don't want to see them get shafted for random celebrity voices. Snooki voicing Bulma? Blaugh. I wish that contract had been limited only to DBE and nothing else. Remember how they pretty much ignored Funimation while the LAM was being made? I don't want to see that happen here.


I'm so longing for some plot-line news; at least that's exciting. Worrying about Fox messing things up just gets me upset.

Yes fox did Totoro. However, that dub is really hard to get now. I'm lucky to have a copy so if anyone wants to see how they dubbed it let me know and I'll post a sample clip. However, according to Wikipedia (I know...I know..) that worked with Miyazaki's rules (no editing, keeping everything as close as possible, etc).

However, I know it's 19 years latter and TOEI and not Miyazaki..but it's all we really have lol

Maybe we should start a campaign that nicely asks Fox to get the Funi cast and to not make any alterations to the film. If it got enough support it might change their mind, assuming they were thinking of f...ing it up.

Why blame FOX? They have made a countless amount of good movies. DBE's failure was due to the film's crew (directors, producers and writers). We all knew what to expect from a live action movie, this film on the other hand is being created by TOEi Animation. Plus I highly doubt FOX will dub it themselves, FUNimation will step in. FUNi was even involved with DBE years before it actually began production.

I want the DVD release to be a nice normal uncut Funi release with the Japanese language audio/Funi English Dub along with the option for subtitles. I just don't want anything weird happening to this movie's release because of Fox. Let them put their logo on the DVD box, but don't let them have any power over the translations, content, and voices. Let them distribute, but nothing else.

The worst possible outcome I think would be akin to Season 3: an edited, replacement-score, English-only release using Celeb voices with a poor translation that's "mondo cool" and ignores everything Funi has done prior. I'm sure there's only an extremely tiny chance of this happening, but it still makes me feel ill at the thought.

If they mess with its U.S. release, I will import the Japanese release--regardless of extra cost.

I didn't think they did a bad job with the movie... Especially for the age group and the time period. If they added a mini skit and rap, remember the US GT intro...(not saying that's a good thing) I wouldn't mind so long as the film is still the film. But my fear is a Dubstep DBZ intro or "New pop" during certain scenes...

They released the Digimon movie back in 2000 which was 12 years ago. Other then that, none at all. Big Studios other then Disney never bother to released anime to big markets from what I've seen.

I don't think big stars at all.. However, what if they got the FUNi cast but they did the VA direction?
