Discussion regarding the entirety of the franchise in a general (meta) sense, including such aspects as: production, trends, merchandise, fan culture, and more.

The other sent Bardock into a world filled with Mario-looking characters, and messed with the plot of the original special, which happens to be my favorite standalone original DBZ work.
Toriyama gave us Minus, stripped SSJ2 and SSJ3 away from us, continued to make Gohan a bitch, and made Freeza a (super saiyan) prodigy.
Toei gave us GT.
Hollywood gave us Dragon Ball Evolution.
idk. I don't trust anyone anymore. By comparison, Toriyama is still the best.
Hmmm... Do you think Freeza is attacking or being attacked here?
He could just be powering up for all we know.
He's separating the ocean, and being the next Moses. He will lead the jewish folk out of Egypt.
Why Dragon Ball Consistency in something such as power levels matter!

Power levels establish tension and drama. People who care about them (well, people who care about them in a narrative) don't care about the big numbers or the fancy explosions. If you have character A who's so much above character B, who's the main character, you're gonna be left wondering how in the hell character B, the character we're supposed to care and root for, is going to escape the situation or overcome the odds. It makes us emotionally invested.
If character B doesn't escape the situation in a believable way that's consistent with previous events, then that emotional investment is gone. It was pointless tension, pointless drama made just to suck in the viewer. It has no critical value whatsoever. The audience is left believing that the author can just create whatever scenarios he wants and what happens to the characters is decided by whatever the author wants to happen, regardless of the events that happened in the story. Which, in fairness, is what happens, but the audience wants to be fooled. The audience wants to know that the world they're following has rules. That the world they're invested in isn't going to bend to external factors that are irrelevant to them.
An author can do whatever he wants with the characters, that's not false. But the author should also have the responsibility to make sure it fits in cohesively with the other events in the narrative he has created.
Marco Polo wrote:Trailer is GREAT but the intro just goes to show how inferior the animation is nowadays compared to the original episode where Future Trunks killed Freezer. (I guess it's at least better than the episode that was right after that, which I think was by the infamous "Triangle Crap Dude"?)
Yeah As a young kid my mind was so confused how one episode looked so badass and the next one which had a recap of the same event was so weird looking all of a sudden. I couldn't comprehend that there were multiple teams in charge of different episodes.

Freeza already had his "Moses parting the Red Sea" moment, at least in the anime. It's while he's in his final form beating up Vegeta after the latter receives his zenkai, right before Freeza eats that crab.
Freeza is making a reference to the animated thing that appears in all Toei movies at the begining.
Sleeping until the tournament is over.

These days people start throwing the words "filler" and "silce of life" everytime characters aren't punching each other. No matter if something is moving the plot or there's character exposition.
Imagine if DB started these days. It would go like this:
"hey, what's happening in Dragon Ball today?"
"Goku wants Mutenroshi to train him, so he's bringing him some chicks now."
"oh i see, just slice of life filler then. skippable. "

Oh yeah my mistake. He's a prodigy so I guess he's showing off his miracles again. Blessed art thou Lord Freeza, Emperor of the Universe.

Somewhere, someone is depressing.
I consider Goten and possibly Trunks lucky. They probably ducked out when they were told their job was to praise their parents, and job to mooks. It's Movie 3 all over again.

It wasn't just any crab... it was a space crab.

I still haven’t lived down going, “Who the heck is Tao Pai-pai?” that one time I was talking with Ei’ichiro Oda-kun. But the fact that there are still people reading the series after all this time… All I can say is; “thank you.” Really, that’s all.

And that you also have IMMENSELY skewed and comically backwards priorities in what you think is most important and needed to make a good Dragon Ball story.

That poor crab, he had a family, and should get his own special.
Anyone else notice the battle damage on the back of Goku's gi, and how it lines up with the damage on the front? I think he does, in fact, get shot through the chest.
So I'm guessing from the trailer that Jaco goes to Earth to warn the Z warriors (except Goku and Vegeta who I'm guessing will still be at Beerus palace at the start of the battle) that a big ass army is coming, just before they actually arrive. He fits perfectly in that role, considering the galactic patrol would be monitoring what the remnants of Freeza's army are up to.
Also, Freeza's army is pretty big, so probably fatigue will play a role in why Piccolo is having a hard time with "lackey A". That said, I'm also wondering what's up with Sorbet's ring? Could it be, as some have theorized, that it's able to steal ki? Might explain why Gohan goes down pretty easily (unless it's actually Freeza who defeats him)
And about Gohan; it's safe to say he's no longer as strong as he was during the Buu saga, not even close.
My opinion on Freeza's new look has improved after seeing the trailer, I'm actually a bit excited now (thanks in big part to Maximum the Hormone lol)
And finally, considering the trailer opens with future Trunks, I'm surprised for the lack of Goten and young Trunks. Could the Z warriors kept them away knowing Freeza would have a big grudge against Vegeta's son?
So many questions, and so many Freeza!, Freeza! Freeza!, FREEZA!

Yes, Goku visited me once. He turned to me while I was still speechless, and said, "You've drank too much"...
