"Perfect", eh? That's the biggest case of false advertising since the "Neverending Story." ;p

Anyone have a scan of that ad? I need a laugh!
See the part I bolded? ;p

Well, I figured I'd skim the rest of the magazine if there's any more DBZ stuff and whattya know...? The set's a prize for 20 randomly selected people who fill out that little survey thing in the back (and if you don't subscribe, you can always enter the survey/contest on the US SJ's website once the URL actually works, that is).

EDIT: Right. I forgot to actually comment on this. So... I guess if you really hate this set, you may want to try getting it for free, if only to make one of those videos where you film yourself destroying the set with a club and put it up on youtube or something ...

God damn...

No where does it mention that's it's in widescreen.

I feel sorry for the people, and especially the hardcore fans, who don't go on the net and look this up... They'll see that ad, get excited, buy it, find out it's shit, and they're stuck with a POS set while FUNi got that persons money...

From what I saw, it said widescreen ONCE on the back in smaller white text.

I have a feeling that a lot of the technologically oblivious people out there just won't realize that there's anything wrong without a strict comparison.

And there are a lot of these types of people out there—in this day and age, perhaps even rightfully so: HD and widescreen issues can be very confusing; for a while I had to trick my father into thinking he was watching an HD football game by taking an SD image and stretching it to fill the space of the screen, simply because I myself had no idea how to get the real thing at the time and he couldn't tell the difference.

I think the fact that this release is in widescreen, along with the remixed audio will just wow people whom have bought it already to the extent that they won't stop to think about whether or not Vegeta had more hair in that part, or if Piccolo's thumb was in the shot.

Unfortunately, regardless of how much fan outcry there is FUNi will still probably end up making a good amount of money off these things.

That's why I've decided against any further fan outcry and instead I've taken to R2s and bootlegs.

I'm still sticking with FUNimation's DVDs, but yeah, I'm definately going to be buying some R2's now that this fucking cropping is going to cripple my vision of the show.

Also, sick ass close up SSJ Vegeto cover art>>>>>cross eyed Vegeta.

Asides from cropping, is the image quality vastly improved? That's the main reason I want it.
If challenge had a taste, you'd be quite delicious.

You can call me Rick because I'm not actually Piccolo.
I missed out on all of the DB Movie fun, huh?
Point blank: it's gonna suck if you want it to. Personally, I'm seeing it as a comedy.

Thanks. They are far from HD-quality, but they are much better than the original TV episodes in my opinion.

As for cropping:

Yes they cut a lot. However, for people who have widescreen TVs or monitors (like me, I have an iMac which is 20" widescreen), widescreen format is GREAT. If you watch a FULL SCREEN movie on a widescreen TV, there is black borders to the side, but not the top.

And like FUNImation said, "widescreen delivers a more cinematic experience."

Lol.

OK maybe I am defending them, but I just pre-ordered the DVD and I am trying to convince myself I didn't waste my money.

There is a lot of mixed opinions on the matter really. I know I wouldn't get it, but then again it's still Dragonball Z so why not. You haven't wasted your money, it probably looks okay when you watch it and not comparing.

That's cool and I can respect it. I'm buying it to see how it is, though I'll admit my impression so far isn't the best. We'll see.

Was I correct in reading that you were actually going to give it away when you were done?

Yes indeed. I'll have it for a couple of weeks probably, then I'll give it away. It's either that or take it to the NRA and use it for target practice ;p

Well, that or he could always sell it on eBay... could fetch a nice price if someone foolish enough sees it.
Art, etc. links taken down for now. Will be updated at some point. I dunno.

lol, I suppose either option is equally-valid. Count me in for the raffle (if there's anyone in it.)

Fair enough, though the effects of .45ACP hollowpoint rounds on a crosseyed Vejita might have scientific merit ;p
