I think FUNI will stick to their new Kai way of doing things and keep the music (and script) pretty much intact.

As far as dub music goes, I kind of liked that one. I'm pretty sure it's Menza, though.

Takao Koyama, the main scriptwriter of DB and DBZ, posted a blog article about his impressions of BoG, and it is being strongly bashed by the Japanese DB fans.
http://www.brother-noppo.com/essay/zakk ... php?id=257
It says that he thinks Broly still seems much scarier than Birus, and that's all. Through some old interviews, he's occasionally showed his love for Broly, a character he created, and some Japanese fans have been feeling uncomfortable about it, but this time they seem to be run out of their patience. On 2ch, people bash him like "I don't want him to be involved with DB stuff again as long as he's in love with his Mary Sue," "He yet doesn't know what Dragon Ball is."

Well I can't tell what's actually been said but Broli seems to be mentioned a lot.
I'm re-watching Dragon Ball GT in full on
my blog. Check it out if you're interested in my thoughts on the series as I watch through it!

Oh yeah, speaking of which, how has the Japanese public been reacting to the film? The fans in particular.
I know it's been doing well at the box office, but that doesn't necessarily make it good; look at Transformers 2.
Would be interested in a full translation. I'm guessing he wasn't given the opportunity to work on this film.

Most of them seem to have enjoyed the movie without problem, but those who enjoyed the anime series including movies more than the original manga in their childhood seem to have been disappointed by the "less heroic Goku" and the lack of a tense feeling.

I don't remember who said it first or where I read it, but someone made the point that BoG sounded a lot like the first
Rocky film ie Goku essentially went the distance. He lasted long enough to keep the Earth from going boom and wore Beerus out. I personally like it, and find such an endeavor heroic in and of itself: against clear insurmountable odds he still stood his ground and tried.

"Never give in--never, never, never, never, in nothing great or small, large or petty, never give in except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force; never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy." ~ Sir Winston Chruchill / Dragon Ball Z in a nutshell

To me this movie seems to have a perfect ending for a shonen. Distancing himself from the classic "the good side always wins." This time wasnt like that and even if like those finals, I'm always ready for a different one. Besides its awesome how some people who were saying before the movies coming out that the movie would be like all the others (goku saving the day probably with a genkidama, vegeta get his ass kicked in 5 seconds after he shows up, etc..) will have now to use another reason to bash it

.
About the people who found Goku "less heroic" this time, dont miss the next movie

A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.

The only thing that really worries me about Battle of Gods is that the idea behind the film might become a trend. I'd hate for the next film to basically be a repeat, that'd be falling into the same rut that One Piece is in with it's perpetual attempts at being overly light-hearted and pandering to those who don't want a serious story. In that respect I would like to see a truly dramatic story and if that means cutting off Toriyama, so be it.

I agree with you. This ending is cool but like one of his kind. If there would be more movies after this one i would already want the same classic final that we had back then.
yesterday someone said in "darkest db story" topic that toriyama-sama in a interview said that we would never make a dark movie like bardock and trunks special. These ones are two of my favourite so I got kinda -

- and realize I'm glad that he didnt wrote them. Because that endings are my favoruite, the ones that end up in a sad way but with hope to a better future.
I'm glad he participated in this movie though (ssg wiht a cape would be terrible to see and its always good to see some toriyama-sama jokes)

So I've been wondering about the other universes, will they be completely different, or will it be like DBM with alternate versions of the characters and alternate histories? Like a universe where Freeza succeeded in wiping out the Saiyans, or one where Vegeta remained evil?
Maybe Goku will fight an evil Goku from another universe in the sequel?

The thing about an evil!Goku who's not Turles that could be interesting is that since main timeline Goku is more gray than stark white it could make for some eerie conflicts.
Though I can't help but picture that goatee from TFS movie 3. X3

Goku already fought an evil Goku. His name was Turles

Box Office Mojo has not updated their page for this weekend's box office in Japan. I think it's already Tuesday in Japan.

This week is golden week, correct? Guess it's time for this movie's last hurrah in Japan before it makes it's way to other countries.
It's really come and gone in no time at all. I still remember when Shenlong first appeared on the countdown website and when the initial scans were first unleashed on to the net. It was pretty surreal.
I can not wait to see this film.
EDIT: Two down, two to go:

Ugh, have to wait until June to find out whether BOG made the cut.

Same. I remember how everyone doubted the possibility of it being a Dragon Ball film; thinking it was going to be One Piece related.

While I wasn't 100% sure, I know my theory at the time was that it was going to be something One Piece related. "Will of D" and all that. The possibility that it could be DB-related was there, but after Kai I was so doubtful; I didn't want to get my hopes up and see them dashed.
Just the fact that this movie gave me dancing Vegeta and pink-haired Goku; I love that. I can't wait to see the film; it was a thrill to follow; very much an adventure of its own.
