Why is the soundtrack so awful? Most of it is "Item Get" music. Even some of the "ominous Latin chorus" tracks are trite. And every track is like eight seconds long. Are these actual tracks, or samplings of tracks?

There is always DVD and Blu-Ray sales. I'm pretty sure Toei does get money off from home video sales.

The film has pretty much long since made it's budget back. If they're not getting the money they expect from the theater that's still going to be psychologically damaging for Toei. The standard Blu-ray edition for One Piece Film Z is running for about fifty dollars. If Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods on Blu-ray is priced as much then...

$50 * 1,000 units = $50,000
$50 * 5,000 units = $250,000
$50 * 10,000 units = $500,000

That's not much money. Damn. Then again, Evangelion 3.33 pulled in 312,842 units at about $60.

$50 * 300,000 = $15,000,000

Hell, fifteen million is probably more than twice the film's budget.

Some tracks are Bland, but if people other than dragon ball fans heared the better tracks, they'd definitely like it, Some at pretty good, could be better, but it's not awful. I wonder if you listened to "The Eternal Universe" pieces and Cha la Head Cha La orchestra from the soundtrack :S. in my opinion "Chosen Warriors" is pretty frigging Epic.

The vibe I get from this initial stuff is completely different to what the final film turned out to be.

Feels like it was ages ago, but it's really only been about 6 months.

EDIT: And this teaser trailer, man. It still doesn't fail to get me excited, even though the thing's already out and I know everything there is to know about. I dare say that it's probably better than the movie itself.

Arrrggghh, I can't stand waiting for the DVD and it's not even out of theatres yet.

Oh, One Piece Z will be shown in all theaters in France starting May 15th. Depending on when it was shown in theaters in Japan, I guess it could give us a possible timeframe for the international release of manga movies in general, like a certain Battle of Gods...

I wonder if they made their goal. I hope they made their goal.

This was such a fun ride; bums me out that it's almost over. Still looking forward to getting to see the movie and hoping some more fun figures and merchandise appear over the summer for BOG.

He sleeps for long periods at a time and Whis said that 39 years was a very short nap for him, but Whis also implied that he would die of natural causes within Goku's lifetime. But he didn't seem elderly or anything, and he's still in training. So what's the deal here?

He could be nearing the end of his really long life.

Maybe he already did. Being given that lifespan may still mean eventual death, just not as soon.

One Piece Film Z hit theaters 15 December 2012 and has a DVD/Blu-ray home release announced for 24 May 2013. That's a five-month window between theater -> home. For what it's worth, Strong World was a longer window (Dec. 2009 to August 2010).

There's no guarantee that Battle of Gods will follow a similar trend (many things could be based around potential international screenings, doing the math on keeping it in/out of theaters vs. tossing out the home release, etc.), but if it does, we could potentially see it somewhere around September-October...? I could see them holding onto it a little longer than that, though.

Anyone else hoping for more general BOG merchandise over the summer? I'm really hoping more figures come out.

Two things:

1) I like how SSJG isn't treated as a form but as a whole nother character on the merchandise; it's like, you can have Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, Gotenks, and Super Saiyan GOD;

2) I like how the GOD - Bills rivalry is played up; reminds me how a lot of merchandise has Freeza as SSJ Goku's eternal rival.
