Re: FUNimation to put DBZ on Blu-Ray
I guess I'd ask again, more aimed at Marc, but yeah:
Is there honestly nothing FUNi can do with the Japanese audio they have to make it sound better?
Also on an audio side, something the Dragon Boxes' have but the Orange Bricks don't:
The Dub with the Japanese Music, that includes Head Cha-La as the Opening.
Was there a reason why Head Cha-La wasn't on the Orange Brick dub opening?

I may have found an answer to my question, in this interview, right near the end of the video, Sabat mentions that there may be some enhancements to the Japanese audio as well.

Re: FUNimation to put DBZ on Blu-Ray
I know you guy might get annoyed with me spamming videos like this but in this SDCC video around the 7 minute mark, Justin Cook mentions how they had a director from Japan give his approval on the footage. This is before the whole "director Approved" tagline started getting added. So if it was Nishio-San or some random at Toei or just BS he made up...you decide.

Surround Sound Mono, maybe? Is that even possible? It'd help with the volume issues at the very least.Soul wrote:I may have found an answer to my question, in this interview, right near the end of the video, Sabat mentions that there may be some enhancements to the Japanese audio as well.

Also, another reason Sabat should stop playing Recoome!

SSJMan... I can't believe you're saying this
Blu-Ray players can only decode H.264 HiP or less. End. Freaking. Of.
If BD Players could play Hi10P, then the whole of /a/ wouldn't be complaining about fansub groups* using it.
..and fansub groups* only just started using Hi10P a few months ago! I'm not sure if we can encode in Hi422P or Hi444PP, but we definately can't decode it.
I'm not saying you don't encode BD's for a living, but I'm having trouble believing you. Especially when you say BD's are in 32bit, when Hi444PP can only do as high as 14bit. I don't think we will be going as high as 32 until HEVC. n_n;
*sorry for discussing fansubs, but they're the only currently available media in Hi10P

Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt.

In a perfect world.
Re: FUNimation to put DBZ on Blu-Ray
That could also must mean they put on the next episode preview audio they obtained from the dragonbox. That would make me quite happy as well.
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
I thought so, it's not like putting a mono track through six channels changes anything.ect5150 wrote:That's a oxymoron.BlazingFiddlesticks wrote:Surround Sound Mono, maybe? Is that even possible?
So then what would this "new track" of the Japanese audio be? I was thinking they'd just dump the Japanese mono they had, if nothing could be done with it.

You know, I don't really even care if it's stereo or mono anymore, as long as it doesn't sound so damn muffled!BlazingFiddlesticks wrote:Surround Sound Mono, maybe? Is that even possible? Re: FUNimation to put DBZ on Blu-Ray
Well, I guess they could give it a new 'artificial' mix and make it surround - but it would be sort of a pseudo surround. As long as it's a clean as they can get it and lossless, it should be fine.BlazingFiddlesticks wrote:I thought so, it's not like putting a mono track through six channels changes anything.

Re: FUNimation to put DBZ on Blu-Ray
Isn't mono already put through two audio channels nowadays for better playback on stereo devices? It might not be to much of a stretch to do something similar for surround; but I don't know how these things are put together. Lossless mono is fine by me, so long as it has some effect on the aforementioned muffling.ect5150 wrote:Well, I guess they could give it a new 'artificial' mix and make it surround - but it would be sort of a pseudo surround. when was this confirmed ?in case anyone's confused I'm refering to mixing the US sound track with the new recorded dub from 07
Re: FUNimation to put DBZ on Blu-Ray
Again, that was already done in the orange bricks. The original 1999 recordings of Vegeta et. al aren't available at all outside of the old singles and VHSes.

Re: FUNimation to put DBZ on Blu-Ray
Well, it's technically possible that a lossless mono track could sound better than what was on the Orange bricks, assuming that's the source they are using, as opposed to the dragon box audio. They could also matrix the mono track so that it appears in more than just the center channel. I'm hoping for the best, but I somehow doubt that it'll be anything special.BlazingFiddlesticks wrote:I thought so, it's not like putting a mono track through six channels changes anything.ect5150 wrote:That's a oxymoron.BlazingFiddlesticks wrote:Surround Sound Mono, maybe? Man, I want these, but being sold in "levels" I'm pretty sure they'll re-package them later on and sell that in nine different level sets.

I'm waiting. Knowing Funimation, they will most likely repackage these.MoltenMan wrote:Man, I want these, but being sold in "levels" I'm pretty sure they'll re-package them later on and sell that in nine different level sets.

These encoded trailers give no indication on what the grain will actually look like.

That's Ginyu's Kai voice actor isn't he? But yeah, footage looks good, when I get a Blu-Ray player in my hands, this will be a buy.
