Not to single you out or anything, but this is the kind of negative response that's not helping the movie. How can you predetermine what a movie is going to be like before we even have a trailer. Seriously people, there has been little to nothing about this movie released to the public. It gets blown up here because we're all huge fans of the series and we snatch up any knowledge on the movie as if it were highly valuable information. If you really take a step back and look at it, you'd probably realize that most of the general public doesn't even know they're making a movie about it!mAcChaos wrote:This movie's going to suck, that's obvious. Every game to movie or anime to movie project has been a miserable failure. This is going to be no different. It might end up being one of those "it's so bad it's good" type of movies though.

A lot of people have their idea of what a Dragonball movie should be. If a single piece of information comes out that completely contradicts one of the essential things out of that person's idea, then the "movie is going to suck." For example, a lot of people find it essential that Goku is some hick boy who has never gone to school and Bulma is the second human he's ever seen. Sounds like its not happening, so those people aren't happy.SSJ2bardock wrote:Not to single you out or anything, but this is the kind of negative response that's not helping the movie. Until a trailer comes out, there's no real way for people to forgive the movie for not being ideal to them. I'm not forgiving the movie for certain flaws that I know are different from what I want to see. However, I am largely ignoring it until there's a trailer or something equally important dropped on us to see if my opinion changes any.
I'm not being negative, I'm just recognizing reality. The fact is almost every movie made that's supposed to be based off a game or anime has been terrible. The people who make it don't understand what they're making, they have to "spice it up" to be mainstream, yet still retain original elements, and somehow still pack in the plot and all that backstory that has to do with the series but can't be shoved into two hours of screentime. In other words, it's almost an impossible bind, and it's always turned out bad.
Just look at the Mario Bros. movie, or Final Fantasy, or whatever.
So, in other words, every other movie like this failed, what's making this movie so special? Sure, it might be great, but then it's somehow jumped a hurdle that every other movie like it couldn't, so it would be a huge surprise. A good surprise, but a surprise nonetheless.

So then your saying movies like Spiderman and Batman weren't sucessful and/or good movies? Those movies were based off of comics and they have been cranking out good movies for both franchises for a long time. The Superman movie could arguably be put in here too, but I hate superman and haven't seen the movie so I wouldn't know.
I think something we need to be looking at for this movie is the budget. Does anybody have information on the amount of money being put into this movie? I'm not saying lots of expensive and flashy special effects are going to make a movie, but they certainly don't hurt.

That is a pretty solid budget for a "first in a trilogy" movie. The average movie costs in the 20-80 million range. Big Hollywood blockbusters on the other hand often cost 125-200 million.
The Dark Knights budget was 180 million, and Million Dollar Baby's budget was 18 million, if that puts things in perspective.

It's enough to create something of a spectacle I'd say. Films such as '300' and 'The Matrix' had a budget of under 100 million, so Dragonball should suffice in terms of props, special effects, etc. However, one should not judge a film solely upon it's budget; Spider-Man 3, a film with a heaping load of 260 million dollars as it's budget was an utter embarassment.

I agree, the biggest problem that people are having now is that they are expecting this to be the same kind of adaptation as the Harry Potter movies are. Of course it isn't going to be that close to the source material, and of course there are a lot of things that are different, but you have to try and look at it with open eyes.(Veeeeeerrry open eyes!

I'm not sure if I worded that right, but I tried.

As simple as that concept seems a lot of people just won't be able to accept it. I can but most won't.
I completely respect your opinion, and I respect you. I enjoyed discussing this with you, even if I don't completely agree.

It is a very simple concept, but I guess what I didn't take into account is what the series has meant to so many people. To some people it might seem like they're bringing "great dishona' to tha familee name" or something like that if the movie is terrible.Chrono Trigger wrote:As simple as that concept seems a lot of people just won't be able to accept it. I can totally respect where those people are coming from but realistically people that think like that tend to take things WAY too seriously. Like the people that think "Oh once this movie comes out and it sucks people are gonna make fun of Dragon Ball and not take it seriously or There's gonna be a whole bunch of new fans that don't know anything and it's gonna be so irritating!" To me stuff like that is just ignorant and childish. Who cares if people take something you like seriously ? Who cares if the series get a whole new lot of new fans that are horribly misinformed ? How does that change anything that Mr. Toriyama made ? It doesn't !

Hey. If its irritating, its irritating. We're only human, and things piss us off.Chrono Trigger wrote:To me stuff like that is just ignorant and childish.
