Kinda boring packaging to be honest. I guess they're going for the "So simple it's epic" idea... Glad they didn't just stick the poster on the cover, but still... looks kinda generic.

Also, it's interesting that the Japanese "Kami to Kami" is nowhere to be seen on any of the packaging. It's all "Battle of Gods"!

I still get the indication it's "unfinished" packaging, I guess they have 4 months to figure that out.

I like that on the steelbook they put "The Battle of Gods". That makes it sound less like Engrish.

What's a steelbook? Is it a package? Will that replace anything from other retailers' limited editions or it will be the same + steelbook?

Why do they have to complicate things? :?

As for the subtitle issue, I'm positive once the Blu-Ray/DVD is out, we'll start seeing someone posting up subtitle scripts online within the week (which isn't really illegal, since it's just a translation with no video/audio attached to it.) I'd use that to re-encode/mux into the Blu-Ray footage anyway.

Or you can wait the extra year or so for a domestic release....
How do you do that... reencode subtitle scripts? Ill buy it if I can do that.

Well, perhaps re-encode was the wrong choice of words... What many people do is take the subtitle script file (usually an .ass, .ssa, or .srt file), and "mux" it into a video file, usually ripped from the DVD/Blu-Ray, thus creating an .mp4 or .mkv file with the subtitles embedded in the file.
Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.

Opps didn't see that. I don't care about not having subs since the movie is likely to be out by next year in the US hopefully.
Oh my, if that's so, that's the best news ever.

I don't know if the LE version is worth it. I mean there's really nothing special about it except the SSJG Goku wall figure thing. I might just get the Blu-Ray standard.

Kei17 pointed out on Twitter that HMV and Lawson seem to also have an exclusive version of the Limited Edition.

I'm so tempted to get the steelbook just to have a perfect collection, but it isn't even that nice. I preordered both limited editions; that way I'll get the price guarantee for whichever one I decide to buy. Does anyone know if Amazon also gives out the first press posters like CDJapan does?
An interviewer asks, "The soundtrack in Sonic 3 has become legendary. Is it true that you worked with Michael Jackson on it?" Takashi Iizuka kills all of our hopes and dreams by replying, "You know, those are just rumors, and SEGA does not want to say anything about them. So they will forever be just rumors..." WHY!?

So I live in Europe. There's a big chance the Japanese Bluray won't play on my PS3.

I'm not a Blu ray expert but are there any "cheat codes" for Blu Ray players like there are for DVD players that make them region free?

You can use codes on most Blu-Ray players for changing the region of its DVD playing functions, but not Blu-Ray discs. You could try finding/installing custom firmware but there are obvious issues with that.

Just pre-ordered the Blu-ray limited edition on CD Japan. Super stoked for September to roll around. Going to be the best thing ever watching this.

I mean, you're pretty open about looking at cartoon porn. Why would you do that? It's fiction. The proportions of these women are not possible to reach in reality.

CD Japan list the item as "Region free", and I'd believe them on that, considering that I live in Australia and my PS3 only plays region B compatible Blu-Rays. I've imported both the Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu Blu-ray Complete Box and the Pikachu The Movie Premium Box 1998-2010 from CD Japan, the latter of which was a pre-order months before they had the product, and "Region free" rung true on both.

Regardless though, I'm actually getting the Limited edition DVD for BoG so I can screencap things using my DVD drive. Blu-Ray can wait for the English release. :P

Is anyone else surprised at the number of people asking whether this release will have English subtitles? I mean, why would it? I've never heard of a Japanese DVD that has English subs, although I might be wrong. I really don't know about any Japanese DVDs, outside of Dragon Ball ones. :P I guess some English DVDs do include French, Arabic, etc. subs, but Japanese DB DVDs have never included subtitles for an English speaking audience so why would they start now?

EDIT: I swear they just used artwork from the official website for the steel-book. Look at the ground in the Shenlong shot!

EDIT: Maybe not. The inside has Pilaf and co. Did these images get added recently or were they there from the start? :?

*Just realized the release date falls on a Friday the 13th.* Somewhat interesting.

Kind of unrelated, but I wonder how it falling right before a weekend affects shipping times.
On hiatus.

Shouldn't most if not all TVs have a subtitle option or better yet I know the PS3 has an option where you can turn on subtitles, so if you own one you don't have anything to worry about. I could be mistaken though since all the movies that I own have an english version and I could choose subtitles from the DVD menu instead of the PS3's menu that may just be a short cut of sorts instead of it being its own thing.

That only works if there are actually subtitles encoded into the TV show/DVD. You can't load up subtitles if they don't exist.

It is becoming more and more common. If this were four or five years ago, I'd agree with you.
