"Dragon Ball Super" Series Official Announcement & Discussion Thread
Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
People did it for Evangelion and Utena, though.
Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
The two movies were in my opinion, only included for completions sake and for those that didn't go out and buy tickets for the movies and didn't see them. I just can't see them going to spend that money on tickets if the plot has the same outcome. Let's say team 7 wins in the anime, and if they did make a movie about the Champa arc then Champa's team 6 won in the movie giving a alternate plot. That's the only way I could justify going to the theater at least for myself that is. If it was just an upgraded version with the same outcome and underlying plot as in the anime, I would wait for the home release. If they dubbed the 3rd movie before an international release of Super, then I could see it having strong ticket sales and home release sales in all the countries outside of Japan. In Japan itself though, I couldn't see tickets selling well since they have all seen the Champa arc in Super. I think that it not doing as great in Japan would sway them away from making the movie, but then again they are leaving a lot of money on the table from foreign countries. I also can't see them releasing a movie in foreign countries but not in Japan, since it's virtually the other way around, we don't get everything Japan gets. I think if they were going to do an adaption of the Super anime's Champa arc, the best route would be straight to Blu-ray that way they are still capitalizing on the franchises popularity in foreign countries who don't have a dubbed version of the anime yet. They also don't have to worry about ticket sales in Japan and Toei would still make money to put back into the Super anime. However if they want money to put back into the anime, I think a new original movie with a plot we haven't seen yet, which they could release in theaters world wide without worry, would do a better job of doing so.
Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
I wouldn't mind a movie of the Champa arc, if only because we'd get to see the fights in GOOD animation.
I wouldn't care if its redundant or comes out after all the episodes aired, if it has far superior animation I would love to see it. Maybe all of Super's arcs should have movie versions, they'll skip the inbetween episodes and just focus on the big events.

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
Compilation movies, especially completely reanimated ones, only make sense for very popular stories, which isn't necessarily the case for this tournament yet.

Hope is plagiarism, so they can ditch Sumimoto for good in the series.Sodhi wrote:Has anyone heard this track in Super yet, I dont remember hearing it.

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
I hope the new movie is about a completely new plot, but if they are to do a retelling of champa arc it should be done right meaning longer jaw dropping fights and reasonable screen time btw vegeta & goku training in rosat.....

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
I want more Gokû and Vegeta training in the RoSaT so much. And if it's in a movie they might even get nicer animation for it to boot.
On hiatus.

A few weeks ago I loathed the idea of having a Champa arc movie. "Why waste an entire movie budget rehashing something already being adapted into a TV series when they could use it for brand new content?" - I thought.
After seeing episode 33 and how shitty its fights were, I'm starting to be much more open to that idea. Toriyama deserves to have his script being done justice in anime format, which is something Super's anime isn't doing.
Episodes 23 and 24 had some scenes with dreadful animaton and art desperately needing dramatic improvements (Gohan powering up so that Goku can sense his ki, Vegeta killing Tagoma and the beginning of Goku vs Freeza).
Since home releases are uncensored, I'm also curious if they added any blood to scenes like Tagoma ripping off Piccolo's arm and Freeza piercing Gohan's body with death beams.

What you see on jpn tv is what you get on home releases.Kakarotto92 wrote:A few weeks ago I loathed the idea of having a Champa arc movie. "Why waste an entire movie budget rehashing something already being adapted into a TV series when they could use it for brand new content?" - I thought.

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
Having Toriyama's take on the Champa arc in the movie would feel pointless given that fans would be piss that they are wasting time watching the show on TV when a movie with much better animation and writing will be out soon. I hate it when you have movies and TV show going around the same time with the same story like with Ajin: Demi Human for example.

I could be a non canon movie made by Toei so it doesn't have to follow Super correctly at all.
This of course means Legendary Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan Broly

If it's an out of continuity movie then that won't surprise me.ssj_duelist wrote:I could be a non canon movie made by Toei so it doesn't have to follow Super correctly at all.

I kinda have to agree with you; the fights certainly detract from the experience. I'm enjoying the story quite a bit, and having it all in the form of a movie that actually looks nice and holds up would be lovely. Though I fully acknowledge that the idea's one big pipe dream.Kakarotto92 wrote:A few weeks ago I loathed the idea of having a Champa arc movie. Having a movie version of Champa Arc doesn't guarantee good fights. The fights in ROF are almost as terrible as it's Super version. The only thing that makes it more watchable is the animation. For now,i would prefer a movie of Gohan while the others are in the tournament.I'm not even a Gohan fan but it's a perfect opportunity for him to shine.

Fights in RoF are among the best in the whole franchise (especially the Z fighters vs 1000 soldiers) and they were the only positive thing about the movie.SSJ3 Vegeta wrote:Having a movie version of Champa Arc doesn't guarantee good fights. The fights in ROF are almost as terrible as it's Super version. The only thing that makes it more watchable is the animation. For now,i would prefer a movie of Gohan while the others are in the tournament.I'm not even a Gohan fan but it's a perfect opportunity for him to shine.

I would heavily disagree with this. I would not be exaggerating when I believe RoF had the best choreography in the whole franchise. Really the problem with it was the plot which was standard DB movie fareSSJ3 Vegeta wrote:Having a movie version of Champa Arc doesn't guarantee good fights. The fights in ROF are almost as terrible as it's Super version.
