IMO, the only villains that have any depth are Piccolo and Vegeta, the rest are all one dimensional. Freeza wants to become immortal and rule over the universe, Cell and the androids want to kill Goku because they were programmed to do so, and Buu wants to destroy everything because he thinks its fun; there's not more to them than that. But I don't watch Dragon Ball for serious writing and character development, so I don't care.

EDIT: 16 and 18 did end up having little depth to them as well, but the rest are definitely one dimensional.

I disagree, some of Boo's abilities are pretty generic, such as the regen and the manipulation of his own body. I'd be willing to argue Freeza has some interesting and unique abilities as well, such as that imprisoning sphere he used on Goku.
How is the ability to distort his body into anything he wants generic? He can split himself into mini-Buus, bind people with his skin, turn himself into a cannonball, stretch his body any way he chooses, and of course, the candy beam. He's basically a living, breathing piece of putty. Maybe I've been living under a rock, but prior to Buu, I never saw any of that in an anime/manga.

UpFromTheSkies wrote: Freeza wants to become immortal and rule over the universe
He's not as simple as that. He's a being so haunted by his own mortality that he'll do any necessary procedures to avoid his own death as much as possible, such as destroying planet Vegeta based on a myth, taking the surviving Saiyans under his wing to control their growth, monitoring Vegeta's scouter to avoid treason, going to Namek to get immortality and, finally, even asking Goku for his help, ignoring his own pride and arrogance, only to loathe himself and try to kill him afterwards, to regain back his pride, all of that to avoid death. Nobody likes to die, but nobody will go the lengths Freeza would to stay alive. He’s paranoid and meticulous, he plans his every move and gets rid of anything that could threaten him in the slightest.

Not to mention that he, like Vegeta, gains an inferiority complex towards Goku by the middle of their fight and that the new FnF manga showcases him getting some character development in the form of his decision to train, as in, he acknowledges he's weak, the same arrogant Freeza as before who shouted "I'm the strongest in the universe" to Goku would never train. It seems that his trip down to Hell and reliving the same nightmares over and over again made him change somewhat.

He has more aspects to his personality besides just "I'm the strongest and I want immortality".

Freeza, Cell and Buu are more memorable and have depth then most people give them credit for. Sure Buu is not the best written villain in the world, but he is better then most of the villains that we got in DBZ Movie 1-13 and GT. Not to mention Toei give us crappy villains like Lord Slug, Super 13 and Bio Broli in my opinion. With the new movies from Toriyama, I think they are better written then the old films and not to mention Toriyama is not as bad when it comes to rehashing old ideas compare to Toei. Lord Slug is a poor man's version of Piccolo Daimao, Super 13 is a lame version of Cell, and Metal Coola is Cyber Freeza but with better upgrades.

Anyone posted Golden Freeza figuarts yet?
Also; thoughts on possibility of cliffhangers:
-Shueisha counted the DB (not Z) movies when talking about BOG's movie number; calling it the 18th one.
-So F is the 19th movie
-Cliffhangering from 19 into 20 would help build hype for "The 20th Dragon Ball Movie".
On hiatus.

Huh, for some reason I am liking Figuarts Golden Freeza's face better than I do it's look in most of the animation we've seen thus far.

It's because it keeps Freeza's face unchanged from his true form and doesn't add the "SSJ3 eyebrows" like the Golden form does.

Ah, you're right, I think that's it.

...Though...that...means they probably just...did a new paint for the previous Freeza figure...right?

The only movie antagonists that are worth a damn and unique in their own way are Beerus and Janemba.

Freeza is Dragon Ball's most well written and well designed villain/antagonist and this movie is essentially going to be his "going out with a bang" moment. And I couldn't be happier that he is getting it. :)

I have to agree with Ajay's post. I already resented power levels as a discussion subject in Dragon Ball fandom, and most of this thread has confirmed why. It was a similar thing with Battle of Gods, where it seemed like the majority of fans are judging it by how it jives with power level "logic" or how they treated their favorite characters rather than anything the writers actually felt mattered.

Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

Based on what Beerus said in the trailer I think one of the themes of this movie will be that there are situations where Vegeta's ruthlessness is the only way to deal with them.
July 9th 2018 will be remembered as the day Broly became canon.

And I would love it... Goku is too good hearted... Vegeta should do the job and kill Frieza once and for all.

Not only to save the world... But as thanks for Goku for Namek, as revenge for his planet and father... and of course of the humiliating Vegeta went through cuz of Frieza
