Super Animation Catalogue 2.0
Re: Super Animation Catalogue 2.0 - Episode 100
That's a heck of a disappointing rotation if I've ever seen one. I hope that means there will be some actual planning ahead here and Tate Naoki is just working on an episode for the next cour.
The bitch of the arc potentially ending in March is that it means it has to run in production alongside the ending of a PreCure series and the beginning of another. It's going to be murder.

It's certainly going to be interesting to see UI Goku in less than optimal conditions. From what I remember, Manabe's last episode wasn't anything to write home about, so let's hope he's going to bring his flashy stuff here!
Honestly, while I'm not Yashima's biggest fan, with the fairly simple designs of the U2 warriors and the Androids themselves, he should be able to pull the episode well without too much of his... Weirdness. Out of all those, it seems to be the perfect episode for him.

Manabe's last episode was 109, where he delivered a decent cut by Super standards beside Nikaido. Really, I just want to see more of his exaggerated character art in 117.Draconic wrote:It's certainly going to be interesting to see UI Goku in less than optimal conditions. Yashima isn't really the guy to expect anything out of. His job is literally just to play it safe.

Shit. I forgot the special had different supervisors, so I didn't even count it. Re: Super Animation Catalogue 2.0 - Episode 100
Ajay just translated the staff lists for 118 and 119.
118:
Scenario: Hiroshi Yamaguchi
Director/Storyboard: Masato Mitsuka
Animation Supervisor: Naoki Tate
119:
Scenario: Ayumu Hisao
Director/Storyboard: Toshiaki Komura
Animation Supervisor: Tsutomo Ono, Noborisa Sawaki, Yasuhiro Namatame
Masato Mitsuka directing and storyboarding for Tate makes me happy. At the very least its something to look forward to.

Some 17 fanboys seem to be the most annoying in the fanbase lately. That really doesn't surprise me.JazzMazz wrote:Key animator.HeroR wrote:Weird. A 17 fan is losing their mind about this staff line-up along with several other users. The user went as far as to say that they prefer not seeing 17 at all over this staff. I mean, I can get Fukushima who is the weakest writer on Super, even if I personally don't think he's bad, but everyone else, I thought was bottom of the barrel or something.JazzMazz wrote: The thing is, his episodes are usually extremely conservative and limited. If his the supervisor, its usually the markings of a solo episode, meaning outside of maybe one other KA, it'll be Yashima doing conservative work and 2nd KA's cleaning him up.
I have some faith in Kazuya though, his at the very least a decent director. The worst the episode will turn out is like 100 and 108. It should be fine or at the very least serviceable.
Also, what is KA? Drawing a blank.
I don't know why people are freaking out about Yashima. We know what to expect from him. He isn't there to produce overly flashy work. His just there to produce a solid enough episode.
I don't see what people are worried about Karasawa for, he was the director on 109, his perfectly competent. I guess people felt Yashima wasn't capable of pulling through his storyboard when they worked together on 100?
Looking forward to another Toshio episode this week. His growth as a writer has been great to see. He clearly loves Dragon Ball, as both his writing and his extremely patient/nice behavior on twitter show.

Ayumu Hisao is a name I've never seen before in Super. Nice to see some new young and fresh blood injected into Super's staff. Let's hope Hisao makes a good first impression.JazzMazz wrote:Ajay just translated the staff lists for 118 and 119.

Namatame was from Tiger Mask, he was a supervisor on Super 103 and 111. Ono is a series regular, recently supervising on 109 and 101. Sawaki is someone who works under Ono as an animator, though was also a supervisor on 79.emperior wrote:Who are those animation supervisors of episode 119?

No, Onishi was back in Episode 102 and supervised 106 (Assistant Supervisor) 109 and 110iAnimationLover_ wrote:Baggie_Saiyan wrote: and Yoichi Onishi back again (he last supervised episode 49).

Duhh!! I'm such a fool no idea how that never occured to me!! I've always been trying to trace their steps and then figure out where they'll be, when all along it was just this simple! Odd is Ide and even is Tsuji. Amazing lol.ArchedThunder wrote:Ide is on every odd numbered episode.Baggie_Saiyan wrote:So that means Ide is on #117? Ack. Yeah definitely not expecting much for that episode then.ArchedThunder wrote:
He's pretty far away from the model sheets, but I like him. In all likelihood he will be heavily corrected by Tsuji though.
Ide's supervision of Yashima always turns out pretty solid, look at 91 for instance.

He focused on partial corrections, resulting in the episode looking totally fine, the Goku and Gohan here aren't full Yashima, they are partial corrections from Ide.
Re: Super Animation Catalogue 2.0 - Episode 100
Just because this episode had the best art doesn't it's the best looking episode. I prefer great animation with decent + art with the Super designs to an episode with great art with Z designs and decent animation. This episode as a whole had amazing art, but many other episodes in Super had sequences that looked way better than everything in this episode, for instance, Goku vs Krillin in 84, Goku Black defeating Goku in 61 and many more. This episode was nothing special animation wise, it was average + quality with some good choreography. It was fantastic as a whole, but there are episodes in Super with things that to me looked more amazing visually.iAnimationLover_ wrote:Are you high?Amir wrote:Super has many better looking episodes than this one.
Can you mention any better looking episodes than this one? Animation-wise, its clearly not the best, not even close. But art-wise, I'd say its the best.
You make it sound like character art is more important than animation quality and is the more deciding factor for a good looking episode, which is the way most of the fandom probably thinks, I don't.

My point was the best episode in terms of art. Nothing else. And I do not think art is more important than animation, you completely missed my point.Amir wrote:Just because this episode had the best art doesn't it's the best looking episode. He works under Ono, he missed the special because he was too busy, we'll just have to see if he's on Ono's next episode, 119.Razyos wrote:Forgive me if I overlooked it being already said, but any news on Shin Youngsoon? Does he still work on the show? I’ve just not seen his name lately~

So i just watched Geekdom's video on the newly leaked preview images of next episodes. Where does he get these from? And where do you guys get leaked preview images from? Pure curiousity.
Here's link for it, go to 11:17 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bX2s8rBOR-o
Edit: Also, how could i be able to share leaked preview pictures on here without the pictures being from the internet? I tried PrtsC SysRq butten to screenshot the image and pasted it to Word, but i couldn't really get any further from there.

Re: Super Animation Catalogue 2.0 - Episode 100
So, when will Yuya Takahashi become the character designer of this franchise?
He's young, talented and a harcore DB fan that knows how DB should look. You can't really ask for much better.
I've been thinking all week how amazing the art in last episode looked and in 114 episodes, that's the first time this happens to this extent. And that includes the Special too.
Overall I've been pretty satisfied with how consistently good looking this ambitious arc is turning out to be, but Takahashi's art in episode 114 just stands out from everything.
Before this episode I've been thinking how Karasawa would be a good successor to Yamamuro but after episode 114, and despite he being really good, I don't think he's the right choice. Takahashi's talent is not overlooked by Toei and he seems to have strong ties with them. He did a small cut in episode 13, he worked on 2nd Opening, he worked on the Special, and now he supervised his first DBS episode. He was also the top credited key animator in ROF Special.
I would love episode 114 had the huge impact the polemic episode 5 had, but this time for the best reasons. Something that made the top dogs think about current state of the franchise, art wise in this case.
On a side note, Takahashi is the first DBS animator (as far as I remember) that drew something to hype his upcoming episode. And apparently to thank all the compliments he received from the fanbase after the episode, he drew this beauty:
