The carnival music playing during #19's fight and Goku going forward and backwards on the Serpentine Road having a banjo playing and rewinding.
Those always stuck out as major "What the hell?" moments in the dub's music.

As I said, the American music isn't perfect nor is the Japanese music. To say that either version is perfect and flawless is ignorant.

FYI, the scene you guys are comparing with Vegeta and Goku had a track called "Kame's Tale" in it in the American version:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0iH3UJajWYU
I believe it was written back in the Garlic Jr Saga when Kame was telling his back story. Errr...welll it was definitely Kame telling his back story, probably Garlic Jr saga...
I'm betting Ben made the decision to put that piece there. He would have been familiar with the Japanese version btw.

Lol, that reverse idea was hilarious ^^ I remember getting a kick out of that my last week at the studio. Cmon lighten up. That was a silly scene and the fw backward thing was genius I thought XD
19 was a clown, carnival music doesn't seem out of place for him to me.

Erm...outside of appearance I don't see how he was a clown. He's as much of a clown as Chiaotzu I suppose.

If "Faulconer's" music had been used in the "Ultimate Uncut" dub, then they would have used the circus theme for Chiaotzu's death!

It's like you're saying if you like Faulconer, you're a dumbass but if you like the original Japanese BGM, you're a weeaboo.

Exactly. That's why it's my favorite anime. I'm a huge fan of the old skool kung fu movie genre.

I is confused... Do you mean Kami or Kame-Sen'nin? Or perhaps you're just talking about Turtle.

It's been a million years since I've seen that story arc, so I have no idea what the back story that you're talking about even is. Lol.

He's talking about Kami (God).

In truth both scores go silly quite often. And, well, the show has quite a lot of silly moments. I mean, sheesh Boo is a giant baby. The Ginyu force were a bunch of silly posing freaks. #19 was a clown, and even had silly clown voice in the dub. I'd go so far as to say more than half of the villains finally revealed turn out to be jokes. Even Krillin said Frieza looked like a wimp when he first show his 3rd form (totally from memory, it was something like that)
One of the biggest complaints I hear you guys make is that the Faulconer Productions dub takes itself too seriously and is always trying to be hardcore....then you can't take it when it lightens up and gets silly along with the show's sillyness.
Wasn't I just wathing Kid Buu's death scene accompanied by a baby lullaby?? Fact is DBZ is a weird quirky show in addition to being an action cartoon. It's what gives it character and keeps it relevant to it's DB roots.

Oh yeah, believe me, some of the contradictions from the dub critics are kinda annoying.
"Goku's too serious in the dub"
*clip of Goku being silly and being called a clown in the dub*
"GOKU'S NOT A CLOWN WTF ARE THEY TALKING ABOUT!"
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

Well some of the music sounds like it should be in Death Note, so all the songs like that
are too serious and "hardcore".
I've always disliked most of the silly music/happy music because it made me feel embarressed for watching a show with music like that. I can't remember what it was exactly that made it so bad, but it was bad non the less.
The only music that wasn't bothersome was the non Death Note-like "hardcore" music; which is most of it, but having
only "hardcore" music (that I liked) was bothersome as well.
If the silly/happy music wasn't embarressing, and there were no Death Note-like songs, it would've been a lot like Kenji Yamamoto's score. That would've been awesome, 'cause I do like a lot of the songs from the dub, but there's just as many that I can't stand.

Exactly the same here, although I didn't mind the happy/silly songs that we had like
Grand Kai Blues because I think they portrayed the characters well (from what they appeared like in the dub anyway).
Actions have reactions so don't be quick to judge, you may not know the hardships that people don't speak of.
Dub fan.

I...still don't see how he's a clown outside of the voice you guys gave him. Unless anyone with a white face is a clown, which would include Freeza, Perfect Cell and Chiaotzu.
As for the running up and down snake way thing It just wasn't "hilarious" to me, I wasn't doubting the scene was silly.

When on Earth did this happen? I've been lurking here for awhile and I've never seen this said. The closest thing I've heard to that is people being exasperated with Vegeta's overuse of the term "clown".

.
The pointy thing on his head? The outlandish brightly colored clothes?
Did the back and forth scene make you laugh with the Japanese music?
Tracks like Death Note don't bother me if they are appropriate for the scene. That's what counts. You can't say, "This track doesn't fit DBZ at all". What part of DBZ? DBZ is one of the most diverse shows out there in terms of scenarios.

Freeza, Cell and Chiaotzu all have pointy things on their heads too. (Well okay Chiaotzu has a puffball but still.) Everyone and everything is brightly colored, it's Dragon Ball!
Not so much, I like smiled and chuckled a little but I didn't outright belly laugh.
(Say while we're just shooting the shit a little what do you think of the score for Dragonball Kai?)

What's also weird is that a lot of people compare dub Goku to Superman. Goku is way less serious than Superman. Sure, dub Goku has his Superman like moments that aren't present in the original, but both versions have the same, silly Goku that we all love.

Sillyness doesn't matter. They completely changed his motivation from "guy who likes to fight" to some sort of champion of justice. I think that's all people are talking about.

Well he is a bit more like a superhero who fights for justice in the dub, but it's pretty much the same Goku who likes to fight in both versions.
