And yes it is a parody nonetheless, the only project I believe that was taken down was the live action Zelda movie Hero of Time.
Terms can be used in parodies, as can portions of scripts.

Shows like Family Guy, South Park, etc, can do that stuff specifically based on that legally being fine for parodies.

South Park literally had Bart Simpson and the Griffins in episodes, outright calling them by name. And Family Guy is well known for it's parodies, and on occasion has actually gotten the original actors to do them (and sometimes even literally keeping it line for line) but framed them in such a way that it clearly applied as a parody.

They've even been sued for it and the court has consistency pointed out these are legally protected parodies. A few examples being- Art Metrano and his... hand act thing, the Carol Burnett charwoman character, and the owners of the song 'When You Wish Upon a Star'

We could probably get something at least close to impressive with an official adaption, though I doubt it would look exactly like Cell, similar to Marsters' Piccolo.

Fan film? Heh.

It's disappointing that documentary on Dragon Ball fandom failed to get funding. I'd much rather have that than this any day. Assuming that documentary would attempt to follow Dragon Ball fans of all kinds I think it would be much more beneficial to the community and really anime fandom at large than this. It would be uniting, and not us bickering over legalities, and how a 1:1 adaptation is a poor concept.
"I like the money it brings in, but Dragon Ball Heroes is the worst. That's actually the real reason I decided to start working on new material. I was afraid Bandai would make something irredeemably stupid like Super Saiyan 4 Broly." - Akira Toriyama, made up interview, 2013.

I agree that a documentary on Dragon Ball fans is a good idea. I spoke with him over the phone for about a half hour to better understand the concept and hash out some ideas.

Basically, his goal is to travel across the United States speaking to a range of different 'types' of fans, meeting them in different locations and conventions and paint an overall picture of what it means to be a Dragon Ball fan, why the series is so popular, and how it has made such a large impact. To tell the story of Dragon Ball through the fans perspective.

I think it's a fantastic idea and contributed to it immediately. Unfortunately he doesn't have the money to complete the project. And personally, after better reviewing his website and online portfolio, I think he's a bit lacking in professional experience to pull it off well. But the concept has a lot of potential. If it can be done for Star Wars and Star Trek, why not Dragon Ball?

Well, I can say one thing. That Yamucha was way better than in that other movie

The only thing that couldbe worked on is that the audience nees not only to feel that is not easy to generate Ki, it should have a cool impact when it`s ready to be used.

I think that Z in DBZ is from Zed, as zetto is more resembling it. Z in Japanese from Zeta is actually in Z Gundam (機動戦士Ζガンダム Kidō Senshi Zēta Gandamu) and Gundam ZZ (機動戦士ガンダムΖΖ Kidō Senshi Gandamu Daburu Zēta).
But how to tell if you don't hear them saying it, that I dunno, as in these titles, you have it in katakana with simply Z...
Edit: Yeah, when you suspect Japanese from something non-perfect in language, they actually have it solved.
Dragon Ball Z have prescriped reading ドラゴンボールゼット, Mobile Suit Z Gundam as well, きどうせんしゼータガンダム.

Solved, DBZ is Zed in Japanese. Also approved by other person studying Japanese on university, my GF :D

Always thought that German pronounciation is cool, as I watched commercials on RTL II as the guy said: ''Dragon Ball Cet''.

It will be lovely to also have Kei17 on board to confirm or deny or say his point of view as native.

IIRC, in Japanese it's Doragon Boru Zetto.

When speaking in:
English - Zed
Spanish - Zeta
Portuguese - Zeta (haha, I know it's just Zê but I don't like Zê/Zii at all).

People who were taught the American English aren't to be said they're wrong simply they learned a different English than the British.

In French it's also Zed/Zet, plus in other EU countries Zed/Zeta is used a lot.

Edit: I don't get why the actors have to be Asian, the Saiyans aren't Asian or human, they're from outer space aliens, they're Saiyans.

"Zetto" is the Japanese pronunciation of "Z", just as "Zee" is the US pronunciation and "Zed" is the British pronunciation. You're not being closer by using "Zed" instead of "Zee".

The Gundam titles are different, really, since they're more of a shorthand for the full name than anything else. No one would know that "∀ Gundam" is meant to be pronounced "Turn A Gundam" the first time they see it. Even something as simple as Gundam 00 could be pronounced differently if you weren't told otherwise (it's actually "Gundam Double O").

Well, okay, I can say that the Z comes from Czech or German, because zetto sounds more to Zet, same as petto stands for pet. I'm happy and like it like that 8)

I don't understand this Zee Zed battle, why is everyone defending it so hard. It is like saying which word for cat is the right one, the Malayan one or the english one, but the cat is still the same, only people living in different part of world call it differently. With 00 and ZZ, that is easy, this comes directly from english where no-one will say Zee Zee, but double Z.
But I noted that there is something more as Z is called in Japanese zetto or zéta, which must be based on something, otherwise, they will have one reading and not have written the reading for it. Also, as Dutch merchants were one of the first Europeans in Japan, Z can be also from dutch, as it is read zɛt as Zet/Zed comes from Latin directly in all European languages.

What do you mean? Is it normal in English to see "ZZ" and say, "Ah yes, that's pronounced 'Double Zeta'"?

ZZ Top isn't pronounced "Double Zeta Top".

I'd say Yamcha looks pretty good. It was pulled off quite perfect judging from how it's shown in that picture. :)

Mmm, that's the only real problem I have with their Yamcha other than I think the scars should be more defined.

Wow their Yamcha is almost spot on. Hell practically perfect. Makes me think maybe their Piccolo and Raditz will look a lot better in different angled pictures. Super curious how the Krillin and Tenshinhan look like.
