What do you hope to see in Dragon Ball Super?

If your idea of a character who is "washed up" is a character who marries his high school sweetheart, has a loving family, several loyal and super powerful allies and friends, is incredibly intelligent, has a very well paying job, earn a scholarship and even after not training for more than a decade still remains one of the strongest characters in the universe, then yeah, I guess Gohan is "washed up".

All of that stuff is irrelevant in a show about fighting. He's washed up as a fighter, lost his mystic abilities, rage boosts are no longer exclusive to him, he refuses to train, didn't even take advantage of a God ritual to protect this family he loves so much, and his modern character designs are so lame. Garbage character.

And then the next thing you know, in Dragon Ball Super, Gohan regains his Mystic Form and also achieve SSJGSSJ off screen. Because Dragon Ball is that kind of franchise.

I remember when in the second season of Digimon, suddenly every kid was special and got a Digimon, instead of just the main characters and I hated it

To be fair, I would of agreed with this sentiment had it not been for nearly every other planet in the DB universe filled with aliens far more gifted than the denizens of Earth. Seemingly every two-bit space criminal in Dragonball can fly and shoot energy beams from their various orifices and yet Earth has only a handful of individuals who can form even the most basic ki blast.

If anything such an event would just level the playing field in the DB universe, bringing Earth up to the same standards as every other planet out there.

I've already seen this. And apart from Beerus and the green-winged demonish guy, none of these designs fit in with the style of Dragon Ball.

Not even the purple demon god? He fits next to Janemba and Dabra pretty well if you ask me.

Death is no longer a mystical feature of the DB world, so more deaths wouldn't really have much more impact. I think the only thing Toriyama could do to shock the fans is to find a way to permanently kill someone off. Maybe there's a new villain from another dimension/universe who has the power to kill someone and it is a permanent death.

Or maybe even better, they all have to go to one of these other universes Beerus mentioned and the rules there are different then here... So they do not go to an afterlife and they cannot be revived. That would raise the stakes considerably. But it's not enough to just say that, Toiryama would have to kill a main character permanently for this to really strike the fans. I'm actually open to that happening.

Krillin and Tien interacting in some capacity. I don't really know anything about their friendship despite them supposedly being good friends.

Also the two of them having a match so the age old 'Krillin Vs. Tien' debate can be ended without people talking about 'feats vs. word of god'.

Also due to the 'What don't you want to see in Dragon Ball Super' topic bringing it up;

More complicated morality than good vs. evil and the saiyans abstract morality system. Can we have a few characters with shades of grey?

Assuming that Super will take place after the EoZ, I'd like to see the outfits they wore at the 28th Budokai be worn (maybe with some minor alterations) during casual times, training, time with family, etc., and when preparing for a fight or advancing the plot, they'd where the RF dogi.

Or rather, a story that acknowledges that the Dragon Ball crew is settled and the "Z-era all-encompassing battle" storyline no longer works, no more than a Dragon Ball hunt or straight World Tournament would mean anything in the "Z-era". The series threw out tradition once, it can do it again.

I vehemently disagree with Toriyama's notion that the characters suddenly stop being fun once the eldest of the core cast hit middle age, particularly after Dragon Ball already throws modern shonen logic out the window by following Goku into middle age to begin with. You have a 3-generations long, 40-plus person strong big happy family of weirdos... have fun with that. We do not need to open with any fighting; let's see the kids bizarre family lives, let's seem Ten and Chiatzou's farm, let's get a Krillin episode, a Piccolo episode... Goku and Vegeta can keeping training with Whis in the background for the first few episodes, if turning Super into another GT is really the only thing they're useful for at this point (Resurrection F does not bode well). Then, when the villain appears and the battle cries go out, we'll be more invested in the fates of these character than we've ever been. Ever since the 2008 special, the Kazenshuu-esque side of the fanbase has been throwing around "having fun with the characters" like a buzzword, but if Toei really cannot find a way to do that in a longer form manner with a gigantic, mature cast, this show is pointless. I know that means nothing, its not Shueshia's thought process, but then that did not stop the lesser movies or GT from being as problematic as they were, nor kept anyone from saying so.

Also, yes, let's stick with the Blue Godliness and keep fusion as the trump care; GT actually got that part right.

Piccolo releasing his Kami self, who fuses with a revived Piccolo Daimao to turn into the original nameless Namekian. Since he is part of the Dragon Clan, the Dragon Balls will be upgraded.

The arrival of Trunks as a FPSSJ from the future, who fuses with Gohan through potara earrings and benefits from his hidden potential. Truhan would be his name, and he wouldn't need to transform, keeping his unique hair shape and color from base instead.

Goten and Trunks achieving a Full Power SSJ3 Gotenks that extends the fusion's time limit.

After reading about Digimon fans lamenting over the loss of down-time now that they're getting movies instead of a show, I hope we get some fun down-time stuff now that we're jumping to a weekly series. I don't know if I can expect "The Driving Episode" tier stuff, but silly things in that vein would be nice now and then since we won't have to plunge right in because of time restraints the way F seems from what I've read.

Agree but no more reunion parties for a while. BOG was bad enough recycling 2008 Special reuntion party concept, and there's still EOZ reunion technically 'scheduled'.

The thing is, according to Toriyama, #17 did visit #18 and Krillin at some point after the Cell arc. So I hope Toriyama remembers that event and incorporates it into Dragon Ball Super.
