I knew Super's animation would not be that given how Sailor Moon Crystal and Digimon Xtro Wars turn out. People had high hopes to be amazing like if it was a Pixar film.

Edited, not sure if Beersus says it while Vegeta is failing or just before.

Re: This franchise has become a joke now
Super's more focused on kids under 10 it seems to me now a days, which Dragon Ball has always been focused on kids but back then there were less standards. For Example: cursing and blood, nobody cared if their kid seen it. Now a days people freak out over the color red even if its not supposed to represent blood and I think networks especially ones like Cartoon Network have all rebuilt their line-up to adjust with the times. Remember the stuff that used to air on CN? Look at it now. The same thing could be happening in Japan for all we know. As far as Super goes you have an elderly author who's came back after 20 some odd years who's had plenty of time to separate himself from the series. I'm not quite sure how to explain it, but I don't think Toriyama is the only author anymore, multiple hands in the pot which leads to contradictions+plot holes.

Rageta is 10% of Beerus? Think you mixed up your translations.TheMikado wrote:
I hate Super's anime, but I feel like its because its dumbed down to the point where it almost actively insults the audience intelligence.
Oh Rageta is 10% Beerus but SSB x KK x10 is still below him... don't worry they're either dumb kids or dumb fan boys and wont care or notice because they will eat up anything we make.
Its not necessarily the content but the production quality, writing, etc. feels like an active insult to the audience.
Tho if u wish to blame on someone, blame Toriyama for doing the 10x thing in the first place. This is what happens when a show has multiple writers. Some inconsitencies appear.

Re: This franchise has become a joke now
I don't like the digital look of anime these day as well and it has been like that since the mid 2000's. I see a lot of younger anime fans these days that can't watch hand drawn animation which makes me feel sad. DBZ's animation is consider to be good to okay for 90's animation. I think other 90's anime like Trigun, Ushio & Tora (1992) and Yu Yu Hakusho had better animation than DBZ did in my opinion.Clayton wrote:the hell are you talking about? DBZ had better animation than that crap we saw on Super. Also, hand drawn work with ink is always nice to my eyes. a lot of new digital stuff makes characters look like plastic and seems sloppy. there have been some lazy animation here and there with Z, but it's far far far from what is on Super.perucho1990 wrote:Also, DBZ never had great animation, had better directing, yes, but not better animation, its funny how some people think DBZ had Ufotable level of animation

One Piece, HXH and countless other Anime are nothing like what CN has so that's not the case over there.Xeztin wrote:I think networks especially ones like Cartoon Network have all rebuilt their line-up to adjust with the times. DBE is what give us the stuff that we have today. A bad movie can end up spawning something good in return.

I still can't believe that's what got us all this new content and Toriyama's return to the franchise.Hellspawn28 wrote:DBE is what give us the stuff that we have today. A bad movie can end up spawning something good in return.

This is the first time I have heard someone say OPM's animation is average. I would like to know why and if OPM is average what are some of the best animated shows in your opinion? Just curious.perucho1990 wrote: It had better directing, better choreography, but the animation was average(like OPM).

To Toei's credit, 3rd season was much better, probably thanks to fact, they started working on it on February, and it started on Aprilsintzu wrote:If that's the case then Toei's staff are either incompetent, don't care about their work and the franchises they work on or both.coola wrote: I'm afraid it wouldn't help if production didn't start much earlier, first 2 seasons of Sailor Moon Crystal aired biweekly (sometimes three) and animation was still wonky, and biweekly schedule made lots of fans burn-out and angry, not only they had to wait 2-3 weeks, only to see this

I really doubt the 10 year olds in Japan are going to feel very insulted. Are they tuning in every Sunday morning with their notepads and calculators in hand, ready to jot down and compare the latest percentages, multipliers, and calculations? Are they stalking the internet daily for Toriyama's latest off-the-top-of-his-head power statement?
Let's not kid ourselves. Focusing very intently on battle power differences, statements, and feats makes for a nice series of logic puzzles for adults, but I doubt these sleepy elementary schoolers and middle schoolers are tuning in for that stuff over the action and comedy. Unless there's a huge cultural difference where math and logic is generally just the coolest fucking thing to Japanese kids, and cartoons are little more than an opportunity to exercise their mastery in those subjects.
Re: This franchise has become a joke now
^ I'm not speaking specifically about power levels, but consistency in production including the writing. But like you said 10 year old kids won't care.

Re: This franchise has become a joke now
Part of DBZ's appeal is that it's inherently a joke. The characters are named for foodstuffs, the lead hero is a bit of a clown, even the villains love to be over-the-top to be laughable. If it was taken seriously, DB would probably be a regular shonen story.
That said, I can understand people's frustrations.
There's more Super Saiyan transformations than is necessary; what was once a game-changing milestone and embodiment of a prophecy has become a parody of itself in different colors.
And Goku has become ultra, ULTRA-powerful. These are heights of power that noone could be able to transcend, that even Toriyama himself had trouble coming up with fights/villains on such scales.
But I try not to let such things bother me too much. As I said, DB doesn't need to be taken too seriously otherwise it wouldn't be fun and enjoyable.

"Don't take pleasure in destruction!" / "I will not let you destroy my world!"
A true hero goes beyond not the limits of power, but the limits that divide countries and people.

Re: This franchise has become a joke now
The franchise really should have ended with the Buu arc, and even then it was pushing it.
As much as I enjoy Beerus, the Goku black arc, and all the lore building with the 12 universes, Gods, etc....its all just "extra" stuff. If anything most of it could have been condensed into movies like they were originally doing with Movie 14 and 15...not stretched out over a series.

Re: This franchise has become a joke now
The transformation thing has some credence to it. I've heard people before be interested in new forms and admittedly I'm kind of the same way though it wouldn't stop me from being interested in a series or its continuation. I might actually be even more excited if we got rid of them for a while.

I seen other people who didn't like the animation in One Punch Man. For example, here is a user post from Anime News NetworkSaikyo no Senshi wrote: This is the first time I have heard someone say OPM's animation is average.

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/bbs/php ... tart=13455The animation in the first half is absolutely horrendous, almost to the levels of the likes of Kill la Kill, Puni Puni Poemii, or Eiken. The second half lulls you into thinking the animation gets consistent until this short woman named Tornado has a massive influx in design inconsistency! Not even regular "we can't determine if she's wearing heels or flats" (even though that is here, why the hell do I notice garbage like this?) but flat out unable to get the face and hair style correctly.
One Punch Man doe have solid animation, but not the best looking animation from Mad House in my opinion. It does surprise me how people where blown away from the animation in One Punch Man and where like "So this what Mad House can do?! Amazing!". Like if they never a anime from Mad House before? Did they ever seen Ninja Scroll, Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust or even something recent like Black Lagoon. I feel old

How many commentaries you guys did it since I was here for the last time. Just responding my quote in the first page, and you people can continue your discussion:
Also, I was warned just for saying the truth. A guy that says "Dragon Ball GT was so amazing" and "Battle of Gods was a slap on my face" or doesn't have so much critical sense or is just blind by nostalgia. I don't pretend to be offensive with this, it's just the truth. Art, plot and other aspects of an anime/tv series/movie can be analyzed in objective ways. Not everything is subjective.
Noboy is prohibited of defending GT. However, GT's plot is atrocious and totally contradictory. Super has problems, but the only reason that can makes someone to thinks that GT is better, is a nostalgic reason - or maybe the person just don't remember how Dragon Ball GT has a so terrible plot.clutchins wrote:Agreed. Super is a far cry from the greatness that Z was, but I still enjoy it week to week. I think the story is a little too Goku-focused compared to Z, though.Hero wrote:1. The series has always had plot holes. Example one: Goku begins searching for his dragonball in the Red Ribbon Arc even though a year hasn't passed since the first wish.
2. Agreed on the new sound effects being garbage.
3. Agreed with anyone who says that the score for Super is usually garbage.
4. Agreed with anyone who says the animation and art of Super is many times beyond garbage.
5. However, the series is still selling in Japan, so it is anything but a joke.
6. Battle of Gods was amazing. Resurrection F was fun for what it was. Still better than GT (minus GT's score).
Having an opinion on GT is not the same as stating an objective fact. Don't conflate the two. You have a valid opinion only insofar as Maakuo also has a valid opinion. I'm not defending GT myself, rather I'm defending the right for people to defend GT.SaintEvolution wrote:Oldfags are complicated.
Also, you said you loved Dragon Ball GT, that was just atrocious in plot and character development. Super has some problems, but it couldn't be worse than GT even if the anime wanted it. Just because of that I cannot take your commentary seriously.
