It would be cool if they can draw it like the old style. Disney just did it with their new Winnie the Pooh movie that came out last year. I could imagine that Toei can do the same.

I actually liked the style used in Episode of Bardock. Dunno why, but it reminded me of the 2008 JSAT special...samuraix123 wrote:Speaking of animation, Has the Dragonball series (Movies or Specials) ever had a fully animated movie like Disney? I seen all of the movies, specials, ect. but I don't know if they are fully animated or not?I would like to see this movie fully animated. like the flow of movement like Disney. I'm going to shut up now because I feel like I'm making myself look stupid by not knowing about this stuff.
And I definitely agree with ''DragonBalllKaiHD'' I much prefer this
over this
I know I'm probably wrong but looking at the animation used for the Kai intro's and outro's, & Episode of Bardock. seems kinda cheaply made to meI mean I still love the little episode and seeing the intro's and outro's of Kai is a treat, but it just feels cheap.
Oh my god, that would be awesome! I loved the Winnie the Pooh movie! The trailers with "Somewhere Only We Know" made me cry like a baby...Hellspawn28 wrote:It would be cool if they can draw it like the old style. Re: Mystery Jump Countdown: New DB Movie Confirmed!
Actually there are still a lot of great 2D movies and shows out there. Warner Bros. Animation has been hitting it out of the park with their DC animated movies as well as their show on Cartoon Network Young Justice. I don't have cable but I feel like a lot of animators(at least for television) are sticking to 2D animation. As far as Hollywood is concerned, yea, 2D is pretty much dead. I don't think it's because it's inferior or anything like that but Pixar has made such an impact that no one(besides Disney themselves) has really tried to go back.Hellspawn28 wrote:
I guess that's why 2D is pretty much dead now these days in the US. I seen some recent cartoons like Ben 10 and Adventure Time that uses them but movies are pretty much are done in 3D animation now these days. It sucks that Japan pretty much only uses 2D animation now these days. I'm a old fashioned type of guy since that's why I always like practical effects over CG. CG can be awesome but practical effects always look more real to me.
I've never heard of Wakfu but, damn, that is the best use of Flash I've seen in like...ever.KaiserNeko wrote:
Flash Animation can be used to spectacular degrees. Just look at Wakfu. But Naruto Shipuuden #167 is nothing short of disappointing in several regards. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yTYNhgPdGQc Regardless of these being single shots and not in motion, I can honest to God say they do -not- look any better.

Eh, full animation is unnecessary. The spastic movement of characters in Disney animation (or animation that looks to Disney as an example) gets tiresome after a while. I'd much rather effort and thought be placed into the movement for key scenes, like battles. Get some Shida Naotoshi, Tate Naoki, Oonishi Ryou and Kuroyanagi Kenji on it, stat.

Well I wasn't meaning make the characters or their movements look disney-ish. but I don't see the harm in seeing something get fully animated.JulieYBM wrote:Eh, full animation is unnecessary. The Dragonboxes are like a middle aged woman who still looks good through simply taking good care of her skin and body with maybe a tiny bit of makeup while the Orange Bricks are like a middle aged woman who get's 50 tons of botox, makeup and plastic surgery in order to look younger and as a result looks even worse. ~ ringworm128

There was just -something- special on how the lines looked actually INKED. It was very noticeable on the 23rd Tenkaichi Budokai. I just swoon over that animation.
We will have to simply accept that those days are gone.
You know, after watching the opening videos of DBO (the normal and budokai) I was fairly impressed they managed to pull it off. I wouldn't mind watching a short series of DB like that.
Oh, and I just realized. If Toriyama is deeply involved... Who wants to bet that Vegeta is going to get the short end of the stick?

I would definetely like sci-fi but I don't know if that would be possible given Goku and Vegetas are as powerful as gods (hot and sexy gods... yes). Magicz! is maybe the only way now to challenge the Z fighters, but maybe they'll disregard the power levels in favor of entertainment.DragonBoxZTheMovies wrote:Just wondering, which aspect of the franchise do you guys want to see take center stage in this film; the mystical side or the science fiction side?

Check out Journey's End, a short story of Goku and Vegeta's final days. "Time is running out for the last two Saiyans"

23rd Tenkaichi Budoukai (both in anime and manga forms) is my favorite arc; from character designs to the way the battles play out, it's a lot of fun.
Oh I am always up for ridiculous stuff happening to Vegeta (Bad Man shirt says hi XD ), especially if it involves Goku. Vegeta's reactions are just gold. As someone who really enjoyed that mini inside-Buu arc (giant worms freaking Vegeta out, him later getting slimed) along with the Jump 08 special (everything Goku did to him in this), yes.

There isn't any harm into fully animating something. That's how you give characters personality and make them feel like there alive and fluid. The only downside is that it takes longer to do, but the reward is worth it.samuraix123 wrote:Well I wasn't meaning make the characters or their movements look disney-ish. but I don't see the harm in seeing something get fully animated.JulieYBM wrote:Eh, full animation is unnecessary. Thanks for the link SparkyPantsMcGee. that amazes me how someone can draw like that.
and yeah i agree it takes a-lot longer to create but as you said the results are well worth it.

Oh that was beautiful! The song, dance choreography, and animation blended wonderfully together. The way the relationship was presented in their dance gave me chills. Thank you for the link.

I'm quite saddened that the animation of dragonball evolved into that new shiny animation, like the one seen in Episode of Bardock and the Kai intros..
I hate to say it but I don't think well ever get that 23rd tenkaichi budokai quality again.

Re: Mystery Jump Countdown: New DB Movie Confirmed!
I'm all for the shiny animation. Such glaring example is DBGT. Having animated using cels with some shining as a finishing touch is pretty nice. The problem with the computer animation is that it lacks the artistic depth. It tends to look cheaply made at times, which is why the computer-generated animation will never be in the league as cel animation.

Interesting; I've seen the word "road show" countless times on ads for other anime movies, but today I stumbled upon what it actually means (which is not what I had thought; no assumptions I guess) while searching for any new news. I thought it meant a string of tour stops; like a Jump Festa booth or something. Turns out it's actually the name for the initial opening weekend of a film. Neat.
Nothing in this week's Super Stage info about DB2013, but there will be more Jump Super Stage info coming in next week's issue, so maybe next week?
(Ugh. I just realized that unless they post something on the website, we're headed into October with still no new plot news since July. O_O;; )

Wow, you learn something new everyday. I assumed the same thing, I thought road show meant like they were touring Japan to debut the movie or something.

Re: Mystery Jump Countdown: New DB Movie Confirmed!
So what do the main animation studios use to animate these days when it is all digital? Like their base program?
Btw, we will never see the 22nd-23rd animation and art style ever again, I can count on that. Maeda isn't around to keep the old style around and Cel animation, while it is better, many consider it yesterdays news. WE WILL NEVER SEE IT AGAIN; that's a shame.

My favourite art style (and animation) outside Toriyama who worked on Dragon Ball: Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru, Masaki Satō, Minoru Maeda, Takeo Ide, Hisashi Eguchi, Katsumi Aoshima, Tomekichi Takeuchi, Masahiro Shimanuki, Kazuya Hisada
Re: Mystery Jump Countdown: New DB Movie Confirmed!
I think I can learn to like the new style more, but what I can't bring myslef to warm up to the colors and the shading they use. Just looking at the screenshot from the new Bardock special posted and I can't help but think they look like they ar made out of plastic. They should at leats stop adding that light that makes their skin look so shiny.
Re: Mystery Jump Countdown: New DB Movie Confirmed!
I wouldn't bet on it. You seem really hype for new info. Not to rain on your parade but you shouldn't expect any news till probably December.Chuquita wrote:Interesting; I've seen the word "road show" countless times on ads for other anime movies, but today I stumbled upon what it actually means (which is not what I had thought; no assumptions I guess) while searching for any new news. Took the words right of my mouth. I was about to post that! They DO look like plastic. One of the reasons I didn't like GT and most of the new stuff is that they started to use that color scheme specially for skin. Darker shade - Normal - WHITE <--- WTF!? WHITE!?? Skin doesn't reflect light like that!Michsi wrote:I think I can learn to like the new style more, but what I can't bring myslef to warm up to the colors and the shading they use. I guess that I simply gave up with the 2008 Special and simply resigned myself to accept whatever new stuff they make as long as is DBZ.

Geez, you really think December, huh? I'm going based on a legit theory with facts to back it up:
To be more math-y about it, if Toei really does have an actual layout plan of when they decide to release new bits of information and the One Piece (also being a SJ title) model also applies to DB, then the final result you get is 2 to 3 months in-between (or late September/early October).medama_oyaji wrote:Well, let's look at how Toei is handling the promotion for the newest One Piece film, which is coming this December.
There are a couple OP forums, but here is the thread on Raftel which is a little quieter than the biggest forum, so you can see the updates more clearly without as much chatter http://raftelforums.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=332
So looks like the original teaser dropped in November of 2011, almost a full year before the film is set to be released. The original info posted was just basically "This will be the first film in The New World!" which is about as much info as "The new DBZ movie will be in the 'Lost Decade'!"
Then it wasn't until MARCH, 4 months later, that a sketch of the villain was revealed at an OP art show in Japan. Here's a thread where that is revealed (it got tossed into another forum section because of the relation to the art show...) http://raftelforums.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=420
And then it wasn't until late June, practically July (another 3-4 months) that more info about the movie came out and we got the first trailer (which you can see back at the first thread).
So, if you apply that to our time frame...about a year out (well, less) getting a tiny bit of info and a teaser that (probably) doesn't reveal anything other than the movie is coming out. I could see it being September or even later before we get any substantial info or a real trailer.
Source: http://www.onepiece-film.com/
On their news updates page, they jump from April to July. And then there's roughly one announcement per month afterward. I can't possibly imagine them waiting a whole half a year before saying anything else about the DB movie! That would be terrible marketing, especially now in the internet age. If you wait too long to update, a good number of people stop caring and you lose prospective buyers. It'd be better to make the initial announcement in September that there is going to be a movie if you're not going to say anything til December. I haven't even seen anything on Jump Festa's site about them having something DB13-related there.
