I was also hoping for a Gokû Black and Zamasu cover, but "Gokû and friends riding vehicles" is typical of the original manga's volume covers so I'm ok with it.

There's always hope for the two of them getting volume 4's cover at least.

Black acts too much like his anime counterpart in those panels. And why is Goku wearing his Resurrection 'F' gear?

Also, I don't like how Toyo draws Goku and I'm still not feeling the dark outliner around Black's eyes.

Goku barely took a backseat in the Buu saga, at best he took a leisurely stroll round back while everyone else cried for him to come back.

Love it! Really cool that Toyotaro went with a Toriyama-style fun/casual cover. There'll be more opportunities for a Zamasu/Black cover, as this arc is quite a bit longer than the previous ones.

I like the cover itself, but it doesn't really compliment the others, nor the tone of the chapters he's covering (which is a bit more forgivable since Toriyama did the same thing, but his chapters covered more diverse ground). I guess all this really does is make Volume 2 stand out in a bad way, and even that'll probably even out given some time. but I'm a chronic complainer, so meh.

Honestly one of his better ones. Looks better than the one in the actual manga.

You shouldn't expect much from Toyotaro, the guy who tends to do a lot of homages to the original work lol

No, it's great. It is just that this is supposed to be a 'What If' for the manga. So, it should have used the crappy manga version of Black.

I'm gonna assume the anon who made that wanted to revise everything, including Black's character. Manga Black sucked hard.

I like it though.

That's horrible reasoning. "What-if" and "Worst Case Scenario" aren't synonyms.

Also, how long are we going on with this myth that there's a substantive difference between Goku Black in each version?

It is a "What-if" based on the manga, so it should be based on the manga's characterizations. That is my opinion on the matter.

I don't know. How are you going to pretend that there isn't a clear different with how Manga Black and Anime Black is presented?

There are presentation differences, but they aren't nearly as drastic as everyone acts. In the manga, he doesn't have a personal grudge against Goku (something the anime never specifically capitalized on anyway), and his flamboyance isn't cranked to 11. Those are the only differences worth noting, it hardly makes them two different characters.

The change is actually quite a few difference to the point that they can almost be different characters. Here is a list of their different from TV tropes: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/C ... lGokuBlack

*Adaptation Personality Change

** In the anime, Black is a Smug Super that always stays calm and never loses his composure, even when he started to lose against Vegeta, and is a clear No-Nonsense Nemesis who will kill his opponents swiftly if given the opportunity. On the contrary, in the manga, he is more prone to lose his composure the moment things don't go his way, such as Goku and Vegeta appearing in the future, and he goes into a Villainous Breakdown when Vegeta gains the upper hand. He is also more prone to holding the Idiot Ball, like him sparing Future Trunks for the sake of fighting him and to gain better control of Goku's body. Basically, Black in the manga acts more like his true self, Zamasu with Goku's battle lust, while Black in the anime behaves more like a mixture of Goku and Zamasu's personalities. Namely, Black has Goku's calmness.

** His demeanor is also different between the two versions. In the anime, Black wears a Mask of Sanity and acts polite to those he slaughters and demeans. He will also compliment his opponent if they impressed him, although this is usually only reserved for Goku. Manga Black doesn't bother to hide how Ax-Crazy he is, openingly relishes in his sadism, and doesn't think highly of anyone except himself. Manga Black also tends to shout and is a bit of ham, while Anime Black is a Soft-Spoken Sadist who almost never raises his voice, and when he does it's on the Cold Ham side. Another big different between the two is how they react to pain. Anime Black is a straight Combat Sadomasochist who giggles and smiles when hurt since getting injured makes him stronger. Manga Black gets stronger from being hurt too, but he doesn't like it.

** This is also reflected in his fighting style. Manga Black fights more like a brute, is more aggressive, and his eyes as a Super Saiyan Rosé has a dark outline like Majin Vegeta. He also prefers to beat his opponent down with pure force instead of using a specific style. In comparison, Black in the anime fights with an air of elegance and indifference which is reflective in his Super Saiyan Rosé form that is drawn more refined and ethereal even compared to Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan. He is also more flamboyant, talking about how beautiful his Super Saiyan Rosé is, and he tends to go for quick critical hits instead of just beating his opponents into submission.

** His relationship with Goku is very different between the mediums. In the manga, Black never got to personally know Goku. Instead, Zamasu decides to steal his body after indirectly hearing about him from U7's Supreme Kai and seeing Goku fight on Godtube. So when he does meet Goku, he's more annoyed and has no real personal connection towards him. They don't even fight in the manga. In the anime, however, Black very much has a love/hate relationship with Goku. He deeply admires Goku to the point of trying to copy his mannerisms, fighting style, and sees him as the only true Worthy Opponent. At the same time, he hates Goku for being a powerful mortal who can challenge the gods and for beating him in a sparring match. He despises Goku so much that he killed him and his entire family upon stealing his body out of spite.

** His relationship with Vegeta. In the manga, Black finds Vegeta annoying and arrogant after he manages to beat him twice and he takes great pleasure using his Super Saiyan Rosé to clobber him up. In comparison, Black in the anime never takes Vegeta seriously even when he overwhelms him. To him, Vegeta is a warm-up or as he puts it 'an appetizer'.

** His dynamic with Future Zamasu is also different. In the anime, Black is the calm one while Future Zamasu tends to be more emotional with all his Motive Rants. He is also the one who has a Villainous Breakdown when Future Trunks nearly seals him using the Evil Containment Wave, while Black remained in control even when Vegeta temporarily overwhelmed him. In the manga, Black is the one who is more emotional while Future Zamasu is the calm one and seems to be the leader of the pair instead of the kindred spirits relationship from the anime. They even had infighting when Goku and Vegeta overwhelmed them with Future Zamasu blaming Black for everything and Black calling Future Zamasu useless when they never once fought in the anime. Even Black turning down becoming an immortal was treated as a friendly disagreement that Future Zamasu eventually accepted. They also never worked together, preferring to fight on their own in the manga, while Black and Future Zamasu are very much a team in the anime to the point that Vegeta cities this as one of the major reasons they're unstoppable in a straight fight.

Question (and if this has already been covered in this thread, then I apologize for the rehash): The manga glossed over the entire RoF arc, but there was an RoF manga special released in concert with the movie (I think it went up to the transformation of Golden Frieza, but not past).

Does anyone else think that there'll be a retelling of that arc (either in a special flashback volume or at the back of one of the regular volumes, a la Trunks's story in the Androids saga), now that it's likely that that wasn't the last appearance of a certain someone?
Twilight: My library?! My library!! Do you have any idea how many books I had in there?!
Lord Tirek: How many, little princess?
Twilight: Over NINE THOUSAND!!!

Considering that Freeza is coming back, albeit temporarily, Toyotaro will have to retell the events of Resurrection F in some capacity because now that story has relevance.

Even if it was written by Toyotarõ, the promotional FnF manga shouldn't be aligned with Super's Manga. It's isolated, like the movie is from Super.

Regarding your question, I doubt it. Toyotarõ probably doesn't have the time. He recently travelled to Italy, the manga's page count has been increasing steadily and it seems he has quite a few responsibilities within the Super machine.
At best, I can see him using flashback's to flesh-out what he deems important, while the arc is rolling.

In the manga, Black is indeed Zamasu. All his loss of composure is seen when Zamasu can not hear the truths that Goku throws in his face, including that he would never be able to complete his plan.
These are personalities that have been exploited differently in each media, this is a matter of preference, not of trying to impose which is the best.

The phrase in which it is said '' in the manga he prefers to use brute force '' is so superficial. Have you seen in the anime, Black creating strategies while fighting alone? He just wants to get stronger and stronger, and just has some sort of synchrony in fighting with Zamasu, other than that, he only aims to be more powerful. That phrase should refer to how he struggles, but by citing brute force, it has lost its meaning.

'' Black in the anime will kill your opponents quickly if you get the chance. ''
That must be why he was distracted with smoke bombs, and let Goku, Vegeta and Trunks have gone back to the past twice. Sure enough, he does not lose any targets.

Black in the anime never lost his composure? When he was being defeated by Vegeta, he was clearly exalted saying something like "You're just an appetizer, Do not think that you are something" Screaming.
The difference is that he discovered a way to increase his power (take power out of nothing), and so he was calm afterwards.

These comparisons are so partial
