The close-up shot of 18 looks really nice.

So Toriyama did indeed design Frost's assault form and final form. They never released those designs though, this video is the first time I see them.
It's not the first time we've seen that, that height chart has been posted a few places before.
Is there a scan somewhere? I never saw it before! Although we don't have high quality pictures of Frost's design, do we?
I also wonder if Toriyama provided designs for how base Goku should look nowadays, I really like how he draws Goku.
Hopefully they will release his Ultra Instinct design.

If they release it, then it will probably in an interview in Jump magazine.

Episode 117

Animation Supervisor
Yashima Yoshitaka

Key Animators
Yashima Yoshitaka
Onishi Ryo

Second Key Animators
Yokoyama Miyuki
Saeki Tetsuya
Tu Yong-ce
Itai Hiroyuki
Toei Phils.

-

Well that was far better than I expected. Who'd have thought Ryo Onishi would show up and deliver an awesome scene like that!?

My guess about Takahashi being a 2nd KA was wrong. No idea who that Vegeta was. Maybe Saeki Teysuya?

Not masses to see in the short NEP, which makes me hopeful they've kept all of Tate's goodness under wraps. I'm expecting big things from him and Mitsuka. Maybe we'll get a peek in the full 30-second one.

Everything about the cut of #18 and #17 fighting Giant Ribrianne was far beyond anything I expected.

This was a waaaaayyy better episode than it had any right to be.

That was the most polished Yashima episode. That Onishi cut was also really good.

Man, I praised for the day Super would finally have consistent art and animation and I think it has been a while that we are already there.

2nd yashima episode in a row where yashima practically never step up, that's incredibly positive for the sake of consistency.
Being that way, one can't complain when it's his turn, apparently he's surrounded by talented people and some big heads are poping up to help on his episodes, so that's nice.

Onishi way to draw ribrianne face expressions is really funny, he is like making emphasis on make fun at that cliche character.

Another nice episode, another reason to keep loving DBS progress compared to it's early days

The episode looked better than what I was being told. Plus, thanks again for doing this for every episode. I don't think we can praise you enough for work on this forum and your channel.

The best I could say about Yashima work in this episode is that I didn't thought it was him while watching. I hated the way he drew the characters in Super before (I think episode 9 of DBS is the worst DB episode ever in that regard) but this time it has been absolutely ok. Not a brilliant episode but a nice one without doubt.

Good stuff.

Tate is the animation supervisor, and with Masato as the director, like he was for 110, I expect only positive stuff at the very least from Tate contributions to the episode.

That is if Piccolo is not eliminated. Otherwise we get another 34.

I was referring to the animation and direction of the episode, not the actual content. :D

On that front, I at least expect it to be decently handled, the writer for the episode was the head writer of the majority of the FT arc, so it should be decent.

I know, but we both know that what happens with Piccolo will color any positives.

Tomioka writing 118?

Surprisingly polished episode and Onishi is definitely a surprise... Narratively this episode was a snore though.

Next week looks great.

I just wanted to say, once again, how happy I am with Super’s current state. This whole arc has been a major improvement from the older arcs, and the ToP is specifically getting more consistent with every episode, especially since the special aired. I can’t imagine how good the finale of this arc will be in terms of animation.

Tomioka writing 118?
Actually, I messed up, Hiroshi Yamaguchi is writing 118, I just assumed because it was an important episode Tomioka would be handling it.

His OK. His only real stand out work to me was for 109.

All his other stuff has just been OK for me.

He wrote 114, which was also great imo.

Second time Ryo Onishi pops up in ToP and both times we animated something with Ribrianne. Maybe he did love the character. :P
Can't blame him though. She was a well done parody to the magical girls troupe until end. It's just a shame she didn't eliminate someone major.
A world without Dragon Ball is just boring.
