I honestly find it fun to switch to the broadcast audio, simply out of morbid curiosity. Really, to me the dub with original music is the bastard child of the tracks, it really has no place or purpose for me. It's too little far too late to really draw me to the dub track, and I find myself getting a kick out of switching to a version approximating what I saw on television to compare against the original audio.

I wonder if they'll keep the insert songs and opening songs in the English version. I'll be pissed if they take out "Cha La...", "We Gotta Power", or "Spirit vs. Spirit".

I think they should drop the Faulconer music audio track.

Flame me all you want, but its only purpose was placeholders because they weren't able to license the Japanese music.

The Season Sets have that track as an option, and I just think that something this geared toward hardcore fans should finally put the "US TV Broadcast" stuff to rest. Honestly, the fact that the first release of the Dragon Box is going to have 42 episodes instead of 39 like Season One, does that not lend credence to this idea that maybe they're dropping the US TV Broadcast audio track? More casual fans (which the Season Sets seem to be what are aimed toward, those who won't spend all that much on some DBZ DVDs) would be more inclined to watch the US TV Broadcast audio. As far as marketing goes, that would be a perfect thing to set the two releases apart.
Thanos, you need to stop.
I've been agreeing with you an awful lot recently, and it just doesn't feel right. But yeah, I said a while back that it's time to pretty much let go of Faulconer now. It was a nice bonus for the previous discs, but by adding the original BGM for the season sets, it was a step in the right direction.
Now all that needs to be done, is to cut that horrible dub music.

As long as the episode quality doesn't suffer, I don't care if it's on there or not. But, with FUNi's definition of a "hardcore fan" basically meaning "a fan of the Japanese version" I don't see why they would put the TV Broadcast Audio on the Dragon Boxes.

This...I'm like a bee, don't bother me and I won't bother you. If you don't fuck up the fantastic footage by adding your shit music more power to you. But that XTREME YAAAAARRRRGH synth shit isn't worth any image issues.

If they have only one track for the English dub, it needs to be the one with the Japanese music, and it needs English versions of the themes! :D

As long as it doesn't have that stupid replacement music for the opening and eyecatch... Yeesh!

Though, really, the dub opening for the Season Sets does sound kinda catchy at 1.5x speed.

If they don't put the insert songs and the opening songs they should at least dub them like the GT sets. Is anybody else now scared to buy the DB season sets? I'm affraid FUNI will turn around and announce they have the DBOX footage for DB and DBGT.

I feel bad for going "ZOMG...Dragon Ball...Remastered..BUY!" I'll probably keep it though as it is 4:3 but not even close to Dragon box.

It may be hard to believe but FUNi now shows interest on bringing the Japanese DVD Boxes to the US, it's a strong possibility for Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball GT. I'm even thinking they'll do a single box for the movies.

Is anyone else here concerned that the Dragonball Z Specials may not be included in these boxsets? They're not mentioned at all in the press release, only the 291 television episodes and the 13 movies. It would hardly be a complete set without them..

One can only hope, then, that the single releases for the specials this September are the Dragon Box 4:3 releases. Though, one would think they would have told us this.

Then again, have they said anything about those releases? I've only seen confirmation on their releasing DB Season One...

I hope the non-Z properties won't become a game of "spot the DBox footage", where they don't tell us whether its from the DBox or not. I'll have to check in here after every release to see what the experts say.

I'm not sure why you don't like me. I tried to clear things up in the Dimps thread, and explain that I was joking and everything. It's all good.

But yeah, it seems odd that they would have Chris Sabat as Vegeta narrating the Dragon Box trailer. Then again, it is characteristically out of place. Good old FUNimation. Being a fan of the original Japanese stuff, I was pretty disinterested in his little references to Vegeta and acting like him (which isn't really like the original Vegeta at all... I don't recall the Japanese Vegeta calling people freak, clown, Earthling, etc.). But it was quite amusing him rushing through the "performance".

I don't see them dropping the TV Dub track as controversial or a bad idea at all; you say that track may have been a selling-point for the Season Sets, but... the main audience (and it will continue on this trend I'm sure, due to the hardcore fan-centric nature of the Dragon Boxes) was essentially those who preferred the TV Dub.

As someone said earlier, FUNimation has been kicking dirt in the eyes of us more dedicated Dragon Ball fans for thirteen years. It'd be a little selfish for the dubbies out there to get anal about them not including Faulconer's music. If you want that... then... go buy the damn Season Sets. :P

If Funi purchased all of the Z DBox footage, one would assume that it included both TV Specials, as both were released on extra discs with the DBoxes.

But I guess we'll have to wait and find out.

FUNi will most likely release the specials with the Movie Box, I think.

The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

And what's wrong with that? So long as the Dragon Box versions get released in some form, that's what would seem to be important, not in what box set they appear. The specials are, in a sense, movies; I see no reason that they should look so out of place on the Movies Box.

Probably not. It's not like they'd sell Dragonball's DBox for only $30 a pop. That shit's expensive. Plus, to get hardcore fans to buy it, they'd advertise it as "Dragon Box" as an additional selling point.

If I were them, I'd say it would be completely irrational to take the "best footage ever" selling point and throw it out the window.

The TV specials are the only one of FUNi's movie lineup that I would probably buy again, if only for the fact that they'd be in fullscreen. Even still, something like a redub would make it actually feel worth it.

Actually, there may be something of a precedent for that now.

I own the Tekkaman Blade sets. They are Japanese audio only. Dub fans can purchase the Teknoman sets, often sold right next to the Tekkaman Blade sets. You have your choice of Voltron or Go-Lion. The Super Dimension Fortress Macross, The Super Dimension Cavalry Southern Cross, and Genesis Climber Mospeada all have a release (though I think Macross did get a new dub), but if you prefer the Macross, Robotech Masters, and New Generation sagas of Robotech, those are still out there as well. I believe the same can mostly be said for Sailor Moon. Granted, in these cases the dubs were so heavily altered that simply switching the audio track wouldn't cut it. Still, FUNi may see a market out there for fans wanting a stand-alone sub-only release.
To show my appreciation, I'll only beat them half to death.
