"Dragon Ball Super" Series Official Announcement & Discussion Thread
Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
" Vegeta fights Megetta next, whose rough body and diverse attacks give him a tough time. He turns into a "Super Super Saiyan" (huh?!), but..."
Is Super Super Saiyan the anime's name for Ssb and ssjgssj ? if so then this is the only form to have 3 official names, Ssjgssj for merchandising, Ssjb in the manga and now sssj for the anime.
I think Roshi and king Kai called it Ssjg during the battle with Freeza so that's a 4th name.
Or do you think it's a new form he and Goku reached during their training ?

July 9th 2018 will be remembered as the day Broly became canon.

Nahh videl vs Spopocich was 4 min while goku vs frost was 10 min (i think)Kakarotto92 wrote:Firstly, unlike the Buu arc, this tournament isn't being interrupted, the episode titles confirm that the tournament is going to be completed (or at least it will reach the finals) plus both the main characters (Goku and Vegeta) are taking part in the matches this time around, whereas in the Buu arc they went after Babidi's spaceship. Even if there's "something much bigger" happening afterwards, if the tournament is completed then the tournament is its own arc (much like the 22nd Tenkaichi Budokai was its own arc even though it preceded the "much bigger" Piccolo Daimao arc). So there's no excuses for making this fights so fast-paced.omaro34 wrote:I agree. I get the feeling that this tournament is an introduction to something much bigger, similar to the start of the Buu Arc.Hit!! wrote:For those who are complaining about the pacing, I wouldn't jump the gun too fast. I'm convinced this tournament is not the main plot of the current arc, i'm pretty sure of it.
Secondly, even in the Buu arc, where the tournament wasn't even the main event but just an introduction to the arc, Trunks vs Goten and Videl vs Spopovich were still much longer fights than the ones we're having in Super's tournament, so again, no excuses.

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
If that's the case, then I honestly don't get how Toei managed to make the SSJG Goku vs Beerus fight last for 5 episodes plus with decent animation (at least for Super standards).JulieYBM wrote:Fights require more drawings. More drawings require more money. Most of the money for these shows don't come from animation studios. More drawings mean more time for the key animators to draw good key animation drawings to make proper use of the higher number of in-between drawings and more in-between animators needed to draw them.Kakarotto92 wrote: Seriously, FUCK TOEI ANIMATION. They wasted tons of screen time with the stupid Pilaf gang in the BoG arc (even dedicating an entire episode to them), wasted almost an entire episode with a pointless Janken gag with Oolong, dragged the SSJG ritual for (again) an entire episode, made a pointless recap episode showing flashbacks of events that had literally happened in the previous episode, Bulma and Jaco visit to Zuno's planet was stretched throughout 20 minutes (whereas in the manga it was like 5 pages), and when we FINALLY reach the tournament fights - which is supposed to be the "main dish" of this arc (you know, the arc that propelled this new series to be created in the first place) and has been the most promoted and hyped up event since like October - Toei rushes everything, and can't be bothered to make a fight last more than 5 minutes because they clearly want to get over with it as fast as possible so they can go back to make entire episodes dedicated to food gags, Janken or other silly non-sense.
Don't get me wrong. I love me some comedy and slice-of-life in my DB, but in Super it's overkill. Super basically consists of 75% slice-of-life and gags and only about 25% action and fighting. Not even original DB was like this. NOT EVEN FUCKING GT WAS LIKE THIS.
The only fight Super did right so far is SSJG Goku vs Beerus (it's still the highlight of the entire show for me). It had the right length, decent animation and great choreography. I'm not hard to please, Toei only needed to replicate the formula of that fight for the rest of the major fights and I would be more than happy with it.
I went to check the length of the matches of 21st/22nd/23rd Tenkaichi Budokai and most of them have much longer length than the fights in Super's tournament. Most of the semi-final and final matches lasted between half an hour and 1 hour, with the longest match being Goku vs Piccolo Jr. lasting 1 hour and half. Goku vs Botamo, Goku vs Frost and Piccolo vs Frost all lasted less than 5 minutes, even a gag fight like Kuririn vs Bacterian was longer than that. Pathetic.
Slow-paced fights are much more effective in building suspense. This is one of the reasons I didn't like Kai. Fast pacing may work in manga format but not with the anime.
It feels like Toei became traumatized by the Episode 5 incident and now every time they have to animate a fight scene they panic and try to abridge it as much as possible.
Even if there's more stuff to come after this tournament, I can't forgive Toei for having their priorities all messed up: there's no excuses for making these tournament fights having shorter length than non-sense like Oolong Janken or a food gag. Even Uranai Baba tourney fights were longer and this was back when DB was still mainly an adventure manga and not a full battle shounen yet.
/rant
This has nothing to do with being afraid, it has everything to do with having no time, money or animators.

Erratum: Goku vs Frost did last more than 5 minutes. Although it was still ridiculously short.Kakarotto92 wrote: I went to check the length of the matches of 21st/22nd/23rd Tenkaichi Budokai and most of them have much longer length than the fights in Super's tournament. Sorry for triple post.

This is probably a mistranslation. The one which alakazam^ wrote says just "Super Saiyan", the golden-haired one.sintzu wrote:" Vegeta fights Megetta next, whose rough body and diverse attacks give him a tough time. He turns into a "Super Super Saiyan" (huh?!), but..."

When someone tells you, "Don't present your opinion as fact," what they're actually saying is, "Don't present your opinion with any conviction. Because I don't like your opinion, and I want to be able to dismiss it as easily as possible." Don't fall for it.

I made a bet with Alee9977 that Vegeta won't be beaten quickly by an opponent. If I lose, I switch my avatar to Vegeta getting beat by hit. If I win, he switches it to Vegeta holding Black by his hair. This will last a month.
Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion

Maybe it's a typo. But if it's not, Super Super Saiyan has to go down as the dumbest name for a transformation this franchise has ever produced. Yes, even worse than Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan.Ajay wrote:

You usually see 超 written with スーパー above it, so maybe somebody messed up there? I don't know. We've had some absurd names lately, so I wouldn't be surprised if it's not a typo.

It's not like this franchise never had absurd names. Remember "A Super Saiyan that has ascended past a Super Saiyan"?

Was that ever an official name? Sounds more like a brief description than a name per se.Doctor. wrote:It's not like this franchise never had absurd names. Remember "A Super Saiyan that has ascended past a Super Saiyan"?

I Dislike Super saiyan Chou more than Super Super Saiyan.kinisking wrote:So do you guys have a problem with super saiyan chou? Or just super super saiyan
I'm fine with Chou Super Saiyan though
Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
The only naming scheme I didn't like so far in recent history was "super saiyan god super saiyan/ssgss". Part of why I call it bluper saiyan.
Chou super saiyan is fine; even if it does abbreviate to CSS (which is also the abbreviation for cascading style sheets).

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
I like super saiyan chou, because it kind of flows with the other transformations where 2,3,4,god, blue were after the super saiyan. It would be interesting to hear your reasoning. Unless it's just a matter of it "sounds better" which is a perfectly fine explain toojcogginsa wrote:I Dislike Super saiyan Chou more than Super Super Saiyan.kinisking wrote:So do you guys have a problem with super saiyan chou?
