Nozawa and other seiyu are going to talk about the movie at Jump Festa on December 22.

I don't know why but I doubt that we will get anything concrete on the story and character details on December 22nd. The fact that they are just talking seems like they are going to be detailing the production process and that king of stuff. Hopefully I'm wrong though.

DragonBalllKaiHD wrote:From the news on the Kanzenshuu homepage:
The global phenomenon Dragon Ball is being made into a movie using Toei Animation’s latest technology, consistently realized as a Toriyama work, with the original author Akira Toriyama himself deeply involve from the script stage for the first time. An episode from between the animation series “Z” and “GT”, or in other words from the blank decade between the end of the battle with Majin Buu in chapter 517 of the manga and chapter 518, will be depicted for the first time.

Such well-known and charming characters as Kuririn, Piccolo, and Vegeta will all make an appearance. A new story in the official history of Dragon Ball is born, neither a spin-off nor a side-story, one that can be enjoyed by both children and parents, manga fans and anime fans.
So it's going to be official canon? With this much hype, I hope it's going to be this good.

Edit: "For the first time"? Does that mean the Tour Jump special never happened?
It means Toriyama was involved in the Tour Jump special, but his involvement was nothing compared to the new movie. He was slightly involved by having the general idea then (minimal involvement), now he's "deeply involved from the script stage" (implying from the very beginning to all/most subsequent stages), implying you'll be able to feel his touch throughout the movie as if you were reading the manga, the "skeleton" of the whole movie will have "Toriyama" written all over the bones. 8) At least, that's what they're trying to convey.

Jump Festa information can be frustrating, because it's all second hand information from people who were there, translations never make a lot of sense, and I'm not sure you're allowed to have cameras there. The Jump authors go there every year and you think a photo from the yearly panels would float around, but no deal.

Regardless, I hope something comes out of it.

I do know from following the One Piece Podcast that camera-usage at Jump Festa has gotten stricter over the years (I'm so sad they won't be doing a live feed this year, but I understand the personal reasons and schedule conflicts as to why). but it's not impossible we won't get footage. Very unlikely, but not impossible.

I wasn't able to comment more in detail earlier because I didn't have much time.

I think it'd be pretty cool if they could have Toriyama at the panel like Oda does, even with Toriyama's infamous ability to remember things from DB. I'm pretty sure we'll learn something new about the movie that weekend, but I really hope we don't have to wait until Jump Festa for a plot update.

Inb4 the canon debate starts  ! December is only a few months away, I think I can wait for a bit until then. The trailer won't likely be released on the web until a few days or weeks later.

A new story in the official history of Dragon Ball is born, neither a spin-off nor a side-story
Official... *---*

Is is just me or does it feels like they are checking the general reaction to wager if they could revive DB as a all new series?

I mean... Sailor Moon is getting a remake next year. Nostalgia is the new black. 9_9
Check out Journey's End, a short story of Goku and Vegeta's final days. "Time is running out for the last two Saiyans"

Well, I doubt it, with as poorly as Kai did with the home releases, but who knows? A LOT of '80s franchises have been making comebacks over the past few years in the West, so I could see it possibly happening.

Still not very likely, in my opinion.

I thought checking to see if fans were still interested was Kai's job. I don't think they'd invest in making a new series.
...Wait what are you doing? Are you still reading this? I finished what I had to say, why don't you move on to the next post?

But Kai wasn't a new series, just an old series with parts removed.

A new series is possible, I think, but only if Toei resorts to one or two cours runs. As repetitive as it might be, Toei could easily do the first two arcs of the comic as a twenty-six episode series (the 1986 cartoon did this in twenty-eight episodes). They could take that as a chance to change up the story and other stuff while keeping a higher budget.

Kai was nothing new which is why it did poorly, fans want something new then the same story that we seen many times before. I think we are likely to get new movies once every year or two instead of a new series. I think a new series could be possible since it been 15 years since GT ended and they could do something new instead of making it a sequel to GT.

Kai may not have been "new" but you have to realize the large fan base it did create. People that didn't grow up on DBZ and had no knowledge of it became fans of Kai. Hell just go check out the Toonzai and Nicktoons forums.

If a new series is made, it'll be a TV adaptation of the Dragon Ball Heroes new manga.
This manga is very similar to the 2000s animes like Pokémon, Digimon, Yu-Gi-Oh! where the main protagonist doesn't fight directly in the real world.

Huh, what? I don't remember Toriyama ever speaking anything about "canon", I doubt he even care about that...

I was looking through some Dragonball z pictures online and happened to run into this and I was just wondering, How would you guys like to see a playful little fight at the end of the new movie? it would haft to be playful because Chi-Chi would kill Goku :P
