Because Beerus may have asked him to do so? Look, the point here is not that we have different "opinions". Your opinion was that it's clear Monaka is strong.
I'm just remarking that we don't know how strong Monaka is because we have yet to see the guy doing anything at all, the only thing we know is how strong Monaka is supposed to be.
That's the only "fact" here.
Why would they lie? And no bullshit "motivation" reason, please, this isn't 21st Tenkaichi Budokai, Goku and Vegeta are motivated enough without Monaka, he didn't change anything.
Assuming they were lying, we would not be supposed to know the reason yet. But the fact the narrative wants us to think Beerus is acting suspiciously and hiding something about Monaka is pretty much undeniable. Monaka being not that strong simply is looking like the most obvious, if not downright banal, conclusion.
08:29 | Goku: "Monaka's lookin' super dignified."
08:34 | Whis: "Well, he's been passed out since seeing the Kamehame-ha in the first match."
08:44 | Beerus: "It's nothing! Nothing! Nothing!"
08:48 | Beerus: "What are you saying?!"
08:50 | Whis: "How long do you think you'll be able to keep hiding the truth about Monaka-san from them?"
08:54 | Beerus: "Until the very end, of course! Listen up, this must stay a secret!"

You mean "us viewers"? Like I said, that may be, but the contrary still is quite a possibility. In any way, your logic is off in denying the possibility Monaka may simply be weaker than what we were led to believe... calling other perfectly valid opinions "bullshit" in the process, I may add.

You may just have nailed it.
No, Monaka is really strong.
Episode 35 is supposed to introduce the concept that Monaka may be one big bluff and let the doubts creep into the viewer's mind, how it's expanded further remains to be seen.

Exactly, we'll see. Also, why don't you post when you entirely finish writing instead of editing after you post?

Someone mentioned in a thread about Cabba's eyebrows changing to "regular, thick-type" eyebrows in ssj and now I'm stuck wondering if it was a Toei or Toriyama design thing. I looked up DBH's character art for that "elite" saiyan avatar character who has a similar face to Cabba and his eyebrows don't change style when he goes ssj1.
Kuririn Fan wrote:They want you to believe that he's weak, that's the point. Small guy = weak, but in Toriyama's world, that means that he's ultra strong.
I think at this point MOST of us expected Monaka to look weak and underwhelming. It's a common trope in DBZ for a strong character to end up being small. I think this might be a subversion of a subverted trope if that makes sense. We expect the new ultra powerful character to appear weak so it would actually go against our expectations if this new character was as strong as he looked.
I just thought of another reason why Monaka's strong. Whis specifically says in the BOG saga that he hasnt seen Beerus that happy in 900 years. Willing to bet he was referencing Monaka

I made a bet with Alee9977 that Vegeta won't be beaten quickly by an opponent. If I lose, I switch my avatar to Vegeta getting beat by hit. If I win, he switches it to Vegeta holding Black by his hair. This will last a month.
I'm actually quite worried about the future of Super. When you look at the noticeable pace this Arc is going in, and taking into consideration the trend that many other anime shows in the past have that fast pacing = wrapping up the series equation, then hopefully I'm not the only one concerned about this.
Normally in the past, whenever there is a fast paced Arc or whatever the case may be, it's a sign that the series is wrapping up. It's a sign that management is telling the writers to end the series.
I mean think about it. Super started in July 2015, and it hasn't even been a full year yet. We have had two re-telling Arcs that have took majority of the 9 months that Super has been airing thus far. So when you think about it, we only had a couple months worth of completely new material.
I certainly hope I'm wrong, and that Super is not part of this trend I mentioned. In all honesty, it would be a walking abomination of the HIGHEST order if the series ended after this tournament given all of the new concepts and ideas that they recently introduced with the 12 universes. It would be like a baller taken with the first overall pick, with the potential to be among the legends of the game when it's all said and done, but instead wastes his potential and has a lackluster career. If that were the case, Super would HURT Dragonball's overall legacy rather than strengthen it.
The coming months will tell the story. I hope I'm wrong my brothers and sisters.
I like to think they're rushing the fights because they're just on too awful a schedule to actually put out any big lengthy battles. The tournament hasn't been the most interesting thing to me so far (outside of "And suddenly Vegeta had amazing good luck!" and "Cabba's backstory what is it I want to know!") and I'm really anxious to actually have the characters get out there exploring Uni 6.
I think the inability to produce a lot of lengthy fights is probably a big factor, but I also have to wonder if they plan to release a tournament arc movie. At this pace it could certainly be done. I feel as though the tournament is only going to be the event that lead into the bigger story, so I'm hoping that the pacing improves after the tournament ends.
The pacing feels fine, it's like I said before "manga pace". So far all characters are likely one-offs, so like their predecessors in other Dragon Ball tournaments, they get limited time to do anything.
This arc really seems to be, if I'm allowed the analogy, the Saiyan Arc to the Namek Arc.
If they tried to stall, what we would get are disasters like the: "Oolong plays janken with Beerus for a thousand years". If there's a need for stalling, I hope it's in the form of "filler moments/episodes" like Vegeta cooking and stuff like that.

Yeah. Vegeta vs Magetta was 1,5 episode. That's perfectly common for most shows, especially ones who don't need to buy time.
It's like some people expect it to drag because it's Dragon Ball.
Are we too old to enjoy new Dragon Ball movies/series?

Guys, I'm going to be straight with you. If you feel the show has gotten 'silly' ... it hasn't. You're just 'too old for this shit'. Seriously, 95% of the people in those boards do not fit the target demographic of the show, so don't expect the show to be 'everything you hoped for'. I'm referring to the people here who expect Super to be rich with dark moments, serious storytelling, meaningful characters etc etc. It won't. It's a show for kids. A show for kids being kids. Everyone in those boards has a manchild in him/her, clamoring to get out, and that's fine. But having unrealistic expectations (such as believing the show grew up alongside you) is naïve at best. Honestly, do you take seriously a story where the supposed God of Destruction halts his urges to blow up stuff in order to eat ice cream sundae? That's the show's silliness at full force, take it for what it is. The show hasn't matured one bit, so don't expect it too. Again, I'm not saying that's a bad thing. I'm saying *that* is DB and always will be.
So if Yamamuro ever leaves is there a chance we'll see a less shiny super?

Not sure if this is the appropriate place to post this, but I suppose it's relevant. FUNimation's Spring simulcast has been posted and Dragon Ball Super is not on it. So don't get your hopes up because of all the Goku .gifs they've been posting.
