Considering the entire trailer seemed to be built around 'SCREAMING, AWESOME, YEAAAA-AAHHH!', I would take Schemmel's take on Super Saiyan God here with a grain of salt, compared to how he'd do it in-film probably.
And yeah, I'm still hoping that maybe FUNi can snag a deal for the Jump special while they get this movie, and release them both on the same release.

Holy sh*t! Did anyone else notice this?! Bills from Battle of Gods has almost the same design as a character from the classic anime, The Slayers. In episode 6 of The Slayers Revolution: FALL ON! Strange Festival! Bizarre Festival? Push That Ball Up! When the main characters are finished eating their meal there is a picture of "Bills" on the wall. The difference in design is that his ears are small...but that's it! Also, I zoomed in close on the picture and noticed the name under the picture was "Nills"! One letter off! Battle of Gods was announced pretty recently, but this episode of the Slayers was released around 2008-2009!
I'll try to find a picture, but for now look for the episode on YouTube or something and you'll see it for yourself!

EDIT: Ah, here we go. Huh, neat... but probably inconsequential?

It's very likely the resemblance is coincidental. The Egyptian theme is not uncommon, it's obviously not a cat, and purple-colored characters in Slayers is not out of the norm by any means.

Just for future reference you can link a youtube video to start on a specific time if you tick a checkbox in the "share" section underneath the video itself.

I really like Grandpa Piccolo, so old fashioned and stodgy. "Trunks has a girlfriend at 9, he can't possibly be pure."
I enjoyed the whole movie, it had it's flaws, but there was a definite "if you like this movie we might make more" feel to it. Especially with the non-end, and introduction of the multiple universes.

I liked that comment as it's a perfect shot to people who do under aged pairings. I now love Piccolo a lot more than I did before because of that one line.Brodes wrote:I really like Grandpa Piccolo, so old fashioned and stodgy. "Trunks has a girlfriend at 9, he can't possibly be pure."
Though shouldn't Trunks be 13. Isn't this movie 5 years after Boo's death.

None of the numbers in the movie really make sense; whether it be for the apparently intended time placement of AGE 776 at the time of writing or the guide's placement of AGE 778. loldbzfan7 wrote:Though shouldn't Trunks be 13. Isn't this movie 5 years after Boo's death.

But how can Tarble have happened if Trunks is only 9 years old? As I said, none of them work out with the correct time placement, and sometimes they don't even work with each other within the film. Another example being Bluma saying she's 38, which, assuming she's not lying about her age, would make her younger than Goku and not born when Birus went to sleep before planet Vegeta's destruction...dbzfan7 wrote:But how can Tarble have happened if Trunks is only 9 years old? Anyway, the number of years between events is an estimate, not literal. If you want try and make the the plothole numbers work, then it's as simple as Tarble occurring in January of 776 and then Birus in March of 776, with Trunks' birthday not occurring till April or something. 776-774=2 years, and Trunks wouldn't turn 10 until after those events... regardless of how you try to fiddle with it though, the numbers are still wrong and wont work with everything else from the series. There is going to be an inconsistency with the math regarding something in Battle of Gods; whether it be Pan's conception, Mai's Age, Bluma's age, Trunks' age, the length of Birus' nap that Whis woke him up from, etc.

It appears that it is actually Jason Douglas who is Beerus. And cross referencing it with King Cold in Kai, it seems to be a very similar voice. So, it seems to be him.

Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2013 Movie Thread: "Battle of Gods
I've been reading lots of varied reviews (professional and fan-written) online, and they're seems to be plenty of people who weren't so hot on the movie.
Main complaints:
1) Super Saiyan God (under-utilized/poorly designed.)
2) The storyline is too basic.
3) The pacing is off. (I agree with this one, actually.)
4) Certain characters get shortchanged in favor of Goku/Vegeta/Bills.
5) There's no real threat or sense of urgency/immediacy.
Main positives:
1) Sets up more potential movies.
2) Modernized animation (depsite it's many lazy moments)
3) Potential for a huge resurgence of DBZ fandom in popular culture & media.
4) The insert song "HERO."
Personally, I feel that certain criticisms are valid (the pacing being a BIG one), but I feel that many of the naysayers are missing the intent of this movie. I suppose the advertising campaign is to blame for that. The trailers did make the movie out to be something different than what the movie actually was.
It's not meant to be a super epic new dark serious saga. BoG is meant to be a celebration of all things DragonBall, and that's why it's light, simple, and fun. Super Saiyan God may have been brief, but there was a point to the form and its use. And this comes out in Goku's attitude towards the transformation. And if future films are made, then might get a more "high-stakes" storyline and battles that certain fans are wanting.
All I know is, I had a good time with BoG and was grinning like an idiot throughout most of it. It may have not been the best movie out there, but it's one of the best DragonBall movies, the creative staff did what they set out to do, and I got what I wanted out it. YMMV.

Nothing matters (in a cosmic sense.) Have a good time.
Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2013 Movie Thread: "Battle of Gods
The advertising campaign really did lead me to believe this movie would be darker than it ultimately ended up being. I really did enjoy BOG and it's pleasant surprises though. It really felt like a DB movie set in the Z era, and that's something very unique (you see a bit of it in the Jump Tour special, but it's not nearly as Toriyama-ish as it is in BOG) especially because I feel BOG really brings out Goku and Bulma's personalities. Ssjg is really eye-pleasing for me to look at (so pretty *u* ) but I can see how those who wanted golden ssj4 to be ssjg would be disappointed. One of the things I enjoyed a lot in the original DB is seeing tiny Goku taking down huge opponents many times his size. Ssjg brings back some of that "way more powerful than he looks" and I appreciate that in addition to it simply being cute.
Two more things I liked in BOG:
-Kaio-sama telling Goku to hide, Goku turns to walk towards the house to hide, Kaio-sama tells him to hurry. Instead of hurrying, Goku changes his stride so that he's actually walking slower than before. X3
-The blink-and-you'll-miss-it shot of Piccolo being saddened when he doesn't have the bingo numbers that's called.

Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2013 Movie Thread: "Battle of Gods
Stepping shielded outside the bubble of this forum, I've found a lot of negative views of this movie based on the humor. I guess a lot of people expected it to be more serious and grim. Also, a lot of people somehow felt Broly should have been in it, for some reason. Man, it's going to be a while before I leave this place again to get the pulse of the fandom. It's scary out there. People are already shoving Birisu and Momentarily Most Powerful Vegeta into their various SSJ9 Broly-Bojack Fusion vs Cell After Absorbing Buutenks discussion threads.
In short, other boards are terrible. Kind of makes me wish Funimation never dubs BoG, so all the people who say "Jap Goku sux00rs" will be forever forced to watch the movie in Japanese.

But he's also a fighter, through and through [...] he fight until he has, in no uncertain terms, beaten his enemy on terms they can both acknowledge. He doesn't want to kill anyone, or even prove that he can win... he just wants to know he can. He's an ineffably charming bastard who's manly leanings were really incendental, and yes, the fact that he was voiced by a squeaky woman made the combination perhaps all the more charming.

I dont think I'm saying anything new when I say the majority of the western DBZ fanbase are abunch of opinionated, biased, arrogant, ignorant morons. Every fanbase has a dark side, the DBZ fanbase just happens to have the Sith Empire.penguintruth wrote:Stepping shielded outside the bubble of this forum, I've found a lot of negative views of this movie based on the humor. I've been reading mostly positive reviews- some hate the pacing (Who was the one whose friend who summed it up as "It sucked, but it was awesome"?), but most of those I've read basically got what the movie was trying to do and rolled with it. The power level discussions are hilarious, though; namely that no one can decide if the fusions would do much better against Beerus because we don't know if Goku had them in mind when saying that Super Sayain God was in a realm of power he couldn't believe existed. And of course throwing Super Sayain God into the general power-level discussions.

My own friends have been split- some really like it, because they got it, some are hung up on Super Sayain God.

You know, other than the set up for more movies, none of those even remotely contributed to my enjoyment of the film, and I really liked it.theoriginalbilis wrote:Main positives:

Most of the negative reactions I see amount to the fact that they didn't try to make it full-blown seinen, "the way Dragon Ball Z (the sequel to Dragon Ball, that one series that was nothing more than a parody of Journey to the West) has always been".
