The real world which, unlike the movies, has real people who, and isn't considered 'uncool' if they don't swear every five words. I hear darn it, dang it, blast it, crud, crap, freaking A, and so forth far more in the real world than I do swearing.

I'm going to assume you don't live in a major city. To literally hear the majority of people use pseudo swearing is unheard of here. It's not even about being "cool" anymore. People don't swear "every five seconds" but if they spill something they don't shout "WELL GOLLY GEE!!!!" they shout "Shit!"

Even so, people do try to avoid it...but I doubt Son's going to care...considering who he is...and that he's in the middle of a fight.

Captures the moment? I think there's a big difference between someone saying Damn you and Darn you. In fact I've never heard the latter used outside of jest.
You do realize that FUNi doesn't really do those kind of "curses" all that much, right? I mean, you ain't gonna hear "WELL GAWLY MISS MOLLY THIS GUY IS POWERFUL!!" In fact, I don't think they even use stuff like that at all. If anything, you're exaggerating.

I referred to the One Piece season sets where Funi actually uses a decent amount of profanity("Damn it!," "Son of a bitch!"), quasi-profanity("Son of a...," "Oh, crap!"), pseudo-profanity("Darn it!"), and just plain insults wherever needed. Just because someone would say "Kisama" or something doesn't mean it has to be translated as profanity. The Japanese language allows for a ton of creative speech when it comes to translation to English, it's just that most fansubbers tend to ignore this and when professionals actually do it, it's viewed as "Kiddy" or "Sugar-coated." It's just being original.

I still fail to see how the use of profanity affects the overall performance of the dub. I mean, even Yusuke Urameshi used euphemisms for "bad words" in the YYH dub, and they still captured the moment of his scenes perfectly.

What dub are you watching? Yuske swears a good deal. But whatever, let's hope the dub of Kai sounds like "Leave it to Beaver" I personally don't give a fu-...darn.

I don't remember writing "Well golly gee" in the list of terms I hear. :P

And if I spill something I don't say shit. I say "Gah" or "Crap" or "Freaking A". I, and most of those I know in real life, only swear if severely upset/angry. Dragonball comparison time! Getting knocked into a mountain: "Ow, freaking A, that hurts!" Best friend gets blown up: "Damn you!"

Well, don't speak for yourself. Where I live, most people swear pretty freely. Hell, the other day we were going to church and my mom said, "Oh shit, I forgot my bible!" :P
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

It's the real world where you hear way more cursing than in movies.

I guess it all just depends on where you live.

As for the DBZ comparison...you gotta remember that this is DBZ...being smacked into a mountain isn't a big deal :P

But did he curse in every scene where he possibly could have? No. Like I said, they changed his rude speech and "curses" in Japanese into clever insults and sarcasm in the dub; they didn't just have him spout "DAMN IT YO!!!!!" all the time. You never knew what he was going to say because he always had a smart-ass comment instead of relying on sheer amounts of profanity. In other words, FUNimation's script writers were being original instead of predictable, and that's how a good translation should be done.

It's not like there'll be cursing every other word.

It's just when the time calls for it, it's gonna be there. And like I said, I am all for it.

To all of you who say people in the real world don't really cuss that much, if at all,
you are lying.

I say dang it, but I hate darn it. Just my two cents.
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
Just throwing this in, Goku DOES cuss from the videos we saw of DBZKaiClips.

He says "damn" when hes knocked down by Raditz.

And the Season set redubs have a few damns, and even bastards.

Maybe they were just testing the timer? It was 5 in the morning.

I don't mind it, either, when the time calls for it. It's just that I get annoyed when people put so much emphasis and act like it's detrimental. If there's some in there, that's fine with me. But even if there was nothing, and all they used were pseudo-cursewords, then that wouldn't bother me, either.

I saw it on Wednesday, and reported it on my twitter guess no one noticed. But yeah they said it would come on May 24th at 8pm and would continue airing new episodes every day from Monday-Thursday. I saw something that also said "Double Premieres". But I did not know what that meant. Maybe they are showing 2 new episodes every day?

I'm all for cussing if the situation is right. A couple of shits in the right place wouldn't seem too out of place, I'd imagine.

That's what I was wonderingas Yusuke's more of a foul mouthed punk in English than he is in Japanese.
