On the subject of cursing in DBZKai, words like "shit", "bastard", "bitch" or even "f**k" have little place in a children's show and should rarely be used.

Why, because it will make kids into drunken, dead-beat, murdering psychopaths if they hear those words?Piccolo Daimaoh wrote:On the subject of cursing in DBZKai, words like "shit", "bastard", "bitch" or even "f**k" have little place in a children's show and should rarely be used.

No, that's why there's rap music.Metalwario64 wrote:Why, because it will make kids into drunken, dead-beat, murdering psychopaths if they hear those words?Piccolo Daimaoh wrote:On the subject of cursing in DBZKai, words like "shit", "bastard", "bitch" or even "f**k" have little place in a children's show and should rarely be used.
Seriously, words like "crap", "damn" and "hell" are alright, but the words I mentioned before are just going too far.

Re: Dragonball Kai dub?
Eh, I bet "shit" will be the most offensive word we hear.
Doubt we'll get a "fuck" out of anybody.
And to be honest, "shit" is not that bad whatsoever.

Has FUNimation ever used that word in any of their dubs?ohaimynameiserik wrote:Doubt we'll get a "fuck" out of anybody.

It does seem to be a word they don't use often in many dubs (that I've seen), especially shonen anime dubs. I'm certain it won't be used in Kai.

They should just have one character you wouldn't expect to ever swear to swear a blue streak.

Re: Dragonball Kai dub?
I gotta admit, I'm excited as hell for this dub...in some ways I think those hoping for a loyal redub of DBZ got their wish with Kai. Granted, a full redub of Z would have been better, but I'll take "short and sweet" over "long and has-it's-moments-but-they're-almost-always-crushed-by-bad-rewrites." For fans of the Japanese version, it's pretty much Z repackaged. For fans of the English version, especially those wanting a loyal re-dub, though...I dunno. I think it's funny how fate works out sometimes. Sometimes I think fate conspired to make Kai just to make us dub fans happy.
A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."
Re: Dragonball Kai dub?
I must have missed the point in time where "shit" and "bastard" made it onto "the most offensive words" list. Then again I've been hearing people say "hell" and "crap" are swear words so I guess my mind has been corrupted by the evil. The only common swear words I feel shouldn't be included are bitch and fuck. So long as they avoid Funi's One Piece frequency of cursing I'm fine.
How on Earth do you guys manage to watch the show subbed?

To all of you who say people in the real world really do cuss often, even a lot, you are lying.ohaimynameiserik wrote:To all of you who say people in the real world don't really cuss that much, if at all,

See what I did there?
Well, Claymore's a considerably darker world setting and series than Dragonball, so that's not so surprising.JulieYBM wrote:Claymore says hello.Metalwario64 wrote:Has FUNimation ever used that word in any of their dubs?ohaimynameiserik wrote:Doubt we'll get a "fuck" out of anybody.
"Crap" isn't even a swear, it's pseudo-swear/replacement word.Piccolo Daimaoh wrote:Seriously, words like "crap", "damn" and "hell" are alright, but the words I mentioned before are just going too far.
"Hell" has always been a swear word and "bastard" has always been on the 'high offender' list. I don't get why you think "bitch" should be left out but don't think the same for "bastard". They're effectively the same word, just genderized.Blue wrote:I must have missed the point in time where "shit" and "bastard" made it onto "the most offensive words" list. Child abuse - yes.Piccolo Daimaoh wrote:On the subject of cursing in DBZKai, words like "shit", "bastard", "bitch" or even "f**k" have little place in a children's show and should rarely be used.
Murder - yes.
Genocide - yes.
"Fuck" - no.
...?
Re: Dragonball Kai dub?
I think we already established you and I have a very different opinion as to what is swearing. Maybe in your world those are on the "high offender" list, unfortunately I don't live there and neither do many others I know from the big ol' interwebs. But whatever, keep on keepin' on.Xyex wrote:"Hell" has always been a swear word and "bastard" has always been on the 'high offender' list. Just out of curiosity's sake do you watch the subbed version of DBZ? I thought I remember you saying you were a sub fan but wouldn't that be hard if you're morally offended by a good deal of the translated dialogue? I'm not trying to sound like a dick I'm honestly just curious.

I get where you're coming from but it would just be out of place for Vegeta to say "Fuck You" to Freeza, Japanese version or dub.Rocketman wrote:Child abuse - yes.Piccolo Daimaoh wrote:On the subject of cursing in DBZKai, words like "shit", "bastard", "bitch" or even "f**k" have little place in a children's show and should rarely be used.

Because harsh swearing has no place in a children's cartoon.Rocketman wrote:...why?Piccolo Daimaoh wrote:I get where you're coming from but it would just be out of place for Vegeta to say "Fuck You" to Freeza, Japanese version or dub.

Swearing is different to violence and besides, the things that happen in DBZ aren't that graphic anyway and even less so thanks to Kai.Rocketman wrote:
