I guess it's too much to ask that I would be able to play the story from beginning to end without all of the redundant extra stuff.

Same. Every game has its flaws, but playing a fighting game like Xenoverse simply for the story? That's just a waste of the game period. Besides it's only around 5 hours long if you minus all the grinding and such.Captain Space wrote:Sorry you didn't enjoy it. I've had a blast with it, for all its flaws, and I'm not really a hardcore/dedicated kind of player at all.

Are Mortal Kombat 9 and X a waste because I don't need to go in endless grind sessions?
I'm sorry, didn't know the story was worthless. Glad I'm not playing through it then.

Did I say they were a waste? No. Are they the same as Xenoverse? No. Games like Mortal Kombat rarely incorporate much of a story into them because they primarily focus on gameplay and such. Xenoverse, on the other hand, attempted to incorporate a long storyline that also ties to the gameplay and such. The "endless grinding sessions" are ways of showing your CaC getting stronger to deal with more powerful characters later on in both the story and the later PQs.TheGreatness25 wrote:Are Mortal Kombat 9 and X a waste because I don't need to go in endless grind sessions?

And no the story isn't worthless. In fact, it's something that was really needed in a Dragonball game since most of them repeat the same story again and again. It also shows elements that were used in the defunct "Dragonball Online" game, which had tremendous potential of a story if it wasn't shut down.

Yeah I understand. I just think I should be able to choose between playing the story and the boring parallel grindfest. I was being sarcastic about your comment that claimed playing it for the story was a waste.

Eh. That was a valid excuse for RPGs in the 80s, the same way random battles were explained away to cover up for the fact that displays weren't powerful enough to show them all on-screen.BlazingBarrrager wrote:The "endless grinding sessions" are ways of showing your CaC getting stronger to deal with more powerful characters later on in both the story and the later PQs.
I can't in good faith defend the random blocks of necessary grinding necessary in Xenoverse just to hit their arbitrary level walls. The game's flow and sense of continuity is thrown way the Hell off when you hit them.

For me the grind for items was long over. What killed the game for me is the terrible online play and the unnecessary amount of EXP grinding.

If the story mode was able to be easily done without any grinding, then grinding for skills you want early on would totally ruin the game for you.
The grinding you need to keep up in the story is really small, anyway. I actually re-rolled by character because I overlevelled it looking for skills.

Besides the obligatory one at the start, I did like two or three parallel quests while I was playing through the story mode, and I did just fine. The grinding only really starts after the story mode ends, I don't think the game is difficult at all to be honest, the only story mode mission I thought about grinding was the Beerus and Whis one, but I managed just fine after a few tries without grinding.
You can just buy skills and transformations off of the shop without doing any of the PQs as long as you've hit a certain point in the story, if I recall correctly.

Oh, it was all easy? So maybe I should start over? Clearly I must have made a mistake somewhere, right?

Perhaps it's your stat distribution.

I think the skills you get from the shop come a little too late though.Doctor. wrote:Besides the obligatory one at the start, I did like two or three parallel quests while I was playing through the story mode, and I did just fine. Although hearing about Energy Volley's trick makes it much more useful and so it's not so bad to stick with that.

The two times in the story mode I paused to grind levels were briefly for the androids, and not-so-briefly for the Beerus and Whis tag-team.
Then again I enjoyed the PQs, and was always happy to discover new little side-stories and interesting situations, sooo... (Well, the first time anyway. Replaying them over and over I wouldn't recommend, try and go for ones you haven't done before for maximum enjoyment.)

The inital part of the grinding feels extra bad because you can't level up Masters by playing the Cast characters, so while yes you could level your own character up by using them, you still needed to use your own to unlock the things you wanted, it easily made Xenoverse a 1 character-game for the majority of it which made things a bit too repetitive.

Once I get to a certain point, I can't win in the parallel quests or the story. I didn't start using characters like Goku until much later on to at least get some enjoyment out of it, since my guy's moves are hilarious.

If you're having difficulties with the PQ's.Just make a Saiyan character,Get Android 19's Z-Soul and get Super Vegeta 2 and Nappa's Ultimate called Giant Storm.TheGreatness25 wrote:Once I get to a certain point, I can't win in the parallel quests or the story. On a side note, I managed to get a Z-Rank in every PQ that has been released (besides Master quests). After unlocking all masters I'm going to tackle their quests for all Z-Ranks and then the story. Just a little self-imposed challenge mind you since you get nothing in return.

Not really solving anything since that requires getting Ultimate Victories and such.SSJ3 Vegeta wrote:If you're having difficulties with the PQ's.Just make a Saiyan character,Get Android 19's Z-Soul and get Super Vegeta 2 and Nappa's Ultimate called Giant Storm.TheGreatness25 wrote:Once I get to a certain point, I can't win in the parallel quests or the story. The PQ where you can get Nappa's Ultimate is pretty easy and you can just buy Super Vegeta 2 at the shop, though 19's Z-Soul is pretty hard to get.BlazingBarrrager wrote:On a side note, I managed to get a Z-Rank in every PQ that has been released (besides Master quests). Not really since that requires an Ultimate Finish to trigger. Also Super Vegeta can't be bought. You have to get it through PQs. Super Saiyan can be bought though, but it generally comes way late in the game (the first level becomes for sale after you finish the Android Saga). As for the Z-Soul, if you're referring to "Bwa Ha Ha! Got You!" than no it isn't hard to get. In fact, it's a very easy Z-Soul to get through mixing since one of its requirements can be bought from the item shop and the other requirement is easy to get.SSJ3 Vegeta wrote:The PQ where you can get Nappa's Ultimate is pretty easy and you can just buy Super Vegeta 2 at the shop, though 19's Z-Soul is pretty hard to get.BlazingBarrrager wrote:Not really solving anything since that requires getting Ultimate Victories and such.
