I can see what you mean, but the thing about King Kai's voice is that it's goofy-sounding, in any language. FUNimation's take on it is pretty good, IMO, but when I listen to it in Japanese, it sounds something like a deep cross between Barney the Dinosaur and Goofy.

Check out the new avatar, peeps -------> Image

You probably notice that the new R29 logo has a 'darker' feeling to it. Well, yeah- it feels much better. And, it suits the movie.

So there. :P

It's going to be very hard to find a voice actor around these forums who can pull off FUNimation's King Kai. By the way, FUNimation nailed King Kai's voice- I can't imagine him without that goofy voice!

Barney and Goofy? Huh?

I'm talking about his Japanese voice. It was also goofy-sounding, but in a different way than FUNimation's.

Wow, I never realized that about King Kai. I always thought his japanese voice was grandfatherly and wise, and his english voice was... utter crap. I've just listened to both and tried to come up with something approximate to each. Lemme know what you guys think about these.

Mmmm.... that was pretty okay. I don't know, Kaio's apparently a tough voice to do...

SEAN'S COMPUTER UPDATE!

Well, everyone, I'm back up and running.... again. Seems the motherboard (which was probably refurbished to begin with) was faulty, but now a new one's in and I'm running just fine. Let's hope it still works in the morning... *crosses fingers*

Hey guys, since you mentioned having an original score as an alternate track, I thought I'd bring this up. I, like others, was upset that the new FUNi dubs of the first three movies lacked Falconer music. Maybe you could fit Ginyu Transformation somewhere in there? I can see it fitting during one of Tullece's speeches.
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
Can I ask a small question? If you aren’t using the original script and not trying to stay true to the original voices and not using the original music or sound effects what exactly is the point of this redub, is it just for fun? Not trying to sound rude I'm just asking.

Yeah, it's primary purpose is to be a fun project for a bunch of us. Voice quality is, really, a matter of opinion, but I think we're doing pretty well. Having helped write the script myself, I can vouch for it's overall accuracy, and the music is one of the areas where we're getting a little more creative and unique.

Hey, I has been doin' some stuff with Mister A's original Goku/Tullece artwork, and touching up the 'End Is Near' poster . . .

Image

D'you like the whole 'in pieces' thing, where Gohan's falling- reflected in shattered and broken glass? You'd probably already guessed that 'symbolic' or 'metaphorical' thing (or whatever you call it) in the picture already. The color also suits the tone of the movie.

Image

With this one, I've really only changed some lighting.

That's it exactly.

Unfortunately, even when I'm not in school, other shit keeps popping up (work, social venues, etc.) Last weekend and this one both became really busy for me, so I have not had the time to bust out the finishing touches on the VRG. That, and I developed a cold, further postponing any voice acting I might try and squeeze in. I hate to sound like I'm making excuses. I'm as annoyed as anyone else, but rest assured, it is coming. And as previously mentioned the people who already have the DVD's should be cool; it's only those without that should really be waiting up for me.

Just a little update since I haven't done one in a long time. First things first I think we need some kind of disclaimer, to avoid the threat of legal action. Think about all the people who have recieved the old Cease and Desist order from Funimation before and why this has to be avoided. That's just a small part of the problems we have now. I am feeling a little bit sick and in spite of this, I will try to finish my translations of the rest of the script. I hope that Chuquita will be able and willing to act as my editor for a second time. I don't want anyone to worry about me as I don't think that what I have is anything serious. Lets try to get this done soon and do whatever from there. I hope to do other DBZ movies too after we do this one. If my input now matters, it would be nice to do Regresa mi Gohan (Return my Gohan) after we finish this. Just want you all to know that I am still working hard to bring all of this toghether. Possibly by Friday I will be able to give it some of my time as I will not be working then.

Have you got any real progress at all? Just need to ask and don't feel like reading 70+ pages of.. stuff.

We've got a final script, all the footage distributed out where it needs to be. We're trying to start recording, but one or two of our VAs had to drop out, so we're currently trying to fill their spots.

So what voices are still needed? Just Kaio and Shenlon?

Yup. We're not holding auditions or anything, but if you think you'd like to do them, record some samples and send them to myself and/or KinoFourpaws. We'll get someone picked for each.

I'm probably either insane, stupid, or a combination of the two for asking, but... any preference on lines for Kaio and Shenlong samples?
