I was looking at pedroTX's mods

They're immaculate, but it's making me wonder what they plan to do in terms of visuals. I could see them just fixing the shading and lighting, and maybe improving the textures, I really hope that's not the case, but would they do that or would they try to remodel every character from scratch?
And assuming it's the latter, what visual direction would they go? Would they stick to the style they've been working with, would they pivot more towards DBS Broly like SZ, Super Hero like Multi, or would it look like Daima?

Re: "Dragon Ball XENOVERSE 2" Official Discussion Thread
I imagine it would be easier for them to make adjustments to their current models, rather than making brand new ones. I just hope they ditch that glossy, plastic look they have in the first two games.
Re: "Dragon Ball XENOVERSE 2" Official Discussion Thread
In terms of XV2, its visual style is set, that being basically what BOG, RF, Super, & the first parts of the Heroes anime looked like, with the weird plastic feel & extra shine on the characters that make them look like they were dipped in oil. If they were gonna do anything about it, they would've when they directly ported the game to Xbox Series X/S & PS5, of which they just upped the resolution, color saturation, & anti-aliasing, which were definitely appreciated since the game didn't get enhancement patches on PS4 Pro or Xbox One X for some reason, despite the continued content support for it at the time.
As for a XV3, I hope that they take cues from FighterZ, Kakarot, & Sparking! Zero where they go for a more classic Z anime or manga-accurate look with better cel shading & more accurate proportions rather than the Yamamuro artstyle. I don't know what it is with the character models in the game, but some are WAY too bulky (Goku's base character model with his regular gi is the first to come to my mind) & the hair on some character models is really off (Super Saiyan 1 Goku's hair, which also transfers to Super Saiyan Blue & Goku Black's Rose form, for example). And, I know that the game's animations are kinda meant to be a bit minimal due to it being more like an MMO where, outside of the more fluidly-animated cutscenes, the models don't emote much in their faces, but I'd love if they could animate the character faces better during cutscenes & even character entrances in battles. I think also doing what Sparking! Zero did & having the mouths animate to the audio from the actors so they don't have to worry about lip sync fail when the cutscenes just use lip sync to the Japanese audio & the English actors don't have to do as much guess work with matching the Japanese recordings. That's an advent that I very much appreciate SZ introducing.

I agree with the model issue. I used to compare them to Legends' and XV always looked off somehow. Even the newer models. I also agree with the facial animation/expression thing, but S-Z has me afraid that it'll be hard for a fully 3D game given some of SZ's expressions and bad angles but they went back and added/fixed some so maybe it was either time constraints or them being unsure if they could break and edit the models like FighterZ? Maybe the real-time combat will make it harder for XV3? I hope not.Scsigs wrote: Tue Mar 11, 2025 2:25 am As for a XV3, I hope that they take cues from FighterZ, Kakarot, & Sparking! Depending on if Dimps does go with a newer style (I.E. based off of DBS Broly or Super Hero) I hope they bring in artists and animators from Toei as consultants the way the developers from that Bleach game brought some people from Studio Pierrot to help with the TYBW visual-direction they're taking the game in.

The difference between old models and newer ones is so ridiculous even as someone who hates XV2' plastic look. They should remake a lot of them. Just compare Z Broly to Super Broly.
Anyways...even trough I have found memories of the game, getting back at it without friends is a pain, so I keep hoping we finally get a third instaltment that actually dates to do cool what if scenarios and characters and not this never ending crap that doesn't advance the story most of the time.
Also SS3 Vegeta is hilarious bevause not only is yet a form retroactively added to him like SSGod, but it should not be his own slot, that completely misses the unique mechamics of SS3
One more thing...is Daima the reason Custom Characters never got SS4 or were they lucky? Whatever the case they can do fun stuff with it now.

Re: "Dragon Ball XENOVERSE 2" Official Discussion Thread
Sparking Zero was definitely rushed out to meet a release window. Now, they clearly knew that Bandai wasn't gonna give them any more time & worked on polishing what they already had so the game wouldn't have any game-breaking bugs or glitches. Them adjusting animations & other things afterwards just feels like them finishing work they weren't able to do before the game shipped. It's definitely not that they weren't able to. FighterZ, Kakarot, & Sparking! Zero were all made on Unreal Engine 4, so they all had the same capabilities to be animated at the same quality. It's not that they weren't able to, it's that they were working under time constraints. I assume a XV3 would also be made on UE4 rather than Dimps' in-house engine (or, at least I'd hope it would be), so it'd have the same potential. There's absolutely no reason that a game from 20 years ago made by the same company & probably at least some of the same devs would be better-looking & animated than a game made today.IntangibleFancy wrote: Tue Mar 11, 2025 4:46 pm I agree with the model issue. I mean, I agree. For a XV3, they should definitely redo the character models.MisteryOne wrote: Tue Mar 11, 2025 8:21 pm The difference between old models and newer ones is so ridiculous even as someone who hates XV2's plastic look. I agree. I've always played the game solo, so doing things like the PQs is a bit lonely & sometimes a pain. I can't even get the achievements for winning 7 times in online battles because I'm not good enough at PVP combat & don't have any friends on Xbox that play the game. I'm gonna resort to using an additional profile I have to do it, which sucks.
Super Saiyan God, Vegeta was very much inferred to have. He couldn't have unlocked SS Blue without it.
No...? Why would Daima be the reason that XV2 never gave custom characters SS4? XV2 came out in 2016. Daima didn't start pre-production until, at the earliest, 2022. The most likely explanation is that they didn't wanna do it because they didn't wanna have to model the form's fur, tail, & wild hair on to different body types, at least from my best guess.

Yeah, I haven't played it in a while, because I just haven't felt anything drawing me to it. They've added a lot of things that just don't appeal to me.MisteryOne wrote: Tue Mar 11, 2025 8:21 pmAnyways...even trough I have found memories of the game, getting back at it without friends is a pain, so I keep hoping we finally get a third instaltment that actually dates to do cool what if scenarios and characters and not this never ending crap that doesn't advance the story most of the time.
New outfits, with no customization options. I don't want my CaC to look like someone else's character. There is a mod that adds customizability to every outfit in the game, but I get really tired of having to update it every time there's an update. Why isn't that just the standard?
Low effort missions, often with an insane amount of difficulty. Like the main story, these mostly come down to "villain X is not supposed to be here" or "villain X gets dark power up." The DLC with Fu, where we get a branching storyline, was the first time I felt like they were tapping into what made the premise of the game interesting.
Nah. They could have added SS4 a long time ago. I think they didn't add it because of Super actively adding new transformations for Saiyans. If anything, Daima increases the chances of us seeing it's version of SS4. Hopefully, Vegeta's SS3 will lead to "Super Vegeta" not being a separate thing in XV3. If we get a two-stage Super Saiyan evolution, it makes more sense for it to be God to Blue.MisteryOne wrote: Tue Mar 11, 2025 8:21 pmOne more thing...is Daima the reason Custom Characters never got SS4 or were they lucky? Xenoverse focuses too much on Saiyans, though. The other races need equivalent powerups. I don't know if they ever gave CaCs Orange or Beast forms, but those would be a way to power up Namekians and humans. Frieza's Black form could be added for Frieza race, but they seem to ignore manga-only stuff...

Re: "Dragon Ball XENOVERSE 2" Official Discussion Thread
Forgetting V-Jump, they could have done Coola's fifth form or even just Metal. I guess the issue with stuff like Coola's form, Orange, or SSJ4: DM at this point is that it would alter the substantially which is maybe more work than they are willing to do. So SSJ4 will probably be another outfit at best.ZeroNeonix wrote: Wed Mar 12, 2025 3:18 pm

Random question, but if Frieza's race had multiple "suppressant" transformations, would cutscene transformations be possible? Like this:

Or would there be too many random assets for them to animate for it to work?
Would it work if the forms were categorized?

Re: "Dragon Ball XENOVERSE 2" Official Discussion Thread
So, I'm finally working my way towards finally getting all of the base game achievements for the game (whether I get the remaining DLC ones is another thing for future me). I only had 4 achievements left, with the 2 achievements for doing 7 online battles & 7 endless battles, the 1 for doing the milk runs for Krillin (I only need 2 more), & the 1 for getting all of the awoken skills for all the races in the game.
I don't blame Dimps for putting achievements for online modes in the game, but why did it have to be 7 for each of those modes? Unless you're good at the game (which I'm not, at least enough to take on real people), it's not really great to do so. Luckily, I found a player on Reddit who was also needing them to help out.
In terms of the awoken skills, I started a human character (will do the rest tomorrow). I remembered that the skills you get on 1 character are only usable by another on your profile if you don't have them equipped to a character, or (I assume) if you have multiples of them. Luckily, it seems that they patched this at some point since I had no issues to speak of on that front. However, the fact that it can take almost 3 hours to get to the point where you can fly & do the things that get the awoken skills. Luckily, I have the "My Hobbies Are Reading and Sports" Super Soul, so I was able to level my human to 35 so I could get the Power Pole awoken skill right after that. I wasn't skipping the voiced cutscenes since I was recording for 1 of my YouTube channels, but the fact that they also put the cutscene with Oolong for the Breakers crossover DLC shit after the second group of story missions is really dumb. It takes up several minutes & isn't even that funny or worth it. All for a Breakers promotion that no one asked for or cares about because no one plays that game.
Also, I have to ask. Why can humans use Beast form? I always took that as a Super Saiyan form for Gohan specifically. I'm not hating that humans can use it. It just doesn't make sense to me why they can.

Nothing about Beast indicates it's a Super Saiyan form. At most it's a hybrid form resulting from his Saiyan potential and human emotions, but games seem to be running with the idea it came from his human side more.

Yeah, the one thing about Super that constantly drives me crazy is how often they'll introduce a new transformation with zero explanation. Half the time, they don't even name it in the anime. We get that from outside sources.
What the heck is Super Saiyan Rage? Or Super Saiyan God Super Saiyan Evolution? Is Beast an evolved form of his Ultimate "transformation?" Heck, it wasn't even clear that Gohan's Ultimate form was a transformation until recently.
At least Orange Piccolo has somewhat of an explanation, with Shenron giving him "extra" power. But like...he can do that? Can he create new transformations for just anyone?

Re: "Dragon Ball XENOVERSE 2" Official Discussion Thread
Beast and Orange seem to be both the same thing effectively, the step beyond "potential unleashed," but they manifested themselves in different ways, with Gohan's drawing from his human emotions, and Piccolo from his lineage. Theoretically, anyone can have their potential unleashed and surpass that for an "Ultra" form that represents their surpassed limits the best.
Jury's out on whatever Rage and Evolution are supposed to be.

Re: "Dragon Ball XENOVERSE 2" Official Discussion Thread
SSBE is even more confusing because Goku never tried to get it nor got it by chance after improving so much, base form included.
Rage could be explained as something unique to Trunks, or to a hybrid that never got their potential unlocked. Or maybe is due to his time serving as Shin's assistant. There's room for headcanon with SSRage, while with SSBE there isn't. I haven't read any worthy explanation as to what SSBE is supposed to be.

Re: "Dragon Ball XENOVERSE 2" Official Discussion Thread
I beg to differ. Gohan uses it, it's heavily influenced by his anger at the guys who kidnapped Pan, his hair & eyes change, he gets a huge power up, etc. Just like the levels of Super Saiyan. To me, it comes off like Beast is Gohan's body's answer to Super Saiyan God/Blue.Yuji wrote: Fri Apr 04, 2025 7:03 am Nothing about Beast indicates it's a Super Saiyan form. Unless I'm missing something, they only did that all of twice. Super Saiyan God, SSGSS/Blue, Super Saiyan Rose, & Ultra Instinct all got named. The original DB manga & Z did that as well. The forms of SS1 that bulk the user up rather than evolve into the next numbered form have no name until the Daizenshuus decided to give them the names of "Super Saiyan Grade [X]" & Piccolo's powered up forms after fusing with Nail & Kami weren't given proper names until Budokai 1 & 2 needed names for them. The same with Cell, as you could just call his forms by numbers like Freeza usually gets but later would be called "Imperfect," "Semi-Perfect," & "Perfect," owing to Cell's need to become his perfect form, then also Buu. In Japanese & even some of the games in English, they don't really delineate between Buu's forms. They're all just known as Majin Buu. Granted, a lot of these were English-speaking fan terms that FUNimation & Bandai adopted for merchandising reasons that got incorporated into the games.ZeroNeonix wrote: Fri Apr 04, 2025 9:43 am Yeah, the one thing about Super that constantly drives me crazy is how often they'll introduce a new transformation with zero explanation. Super Saiyan Rage seems named after the fact that Trunks got super mad at Zamasu, then that got channeled into his Super Saiyan 2 form. Better than the old Grade system, imo.
SSGSS Evolution, quoting the DB Wiki is, "An advanced state with the power that goes beyond the limits of Super Saiyan Blue." Basically, it's Limit Break applied to Super Saiyan Blue. I think it's not hard to understand.
I mean, Shenron did it. His powers are only limited by the person who created him (originally Kami, then Dende) & Dende also gave Shenron a power-up in that movie before Piccolo summoned him, so yeah. He can. The movie answered your question before I could. Moving on. Gohan getting a new form from his rage isn't anything new & it has precedent in Z.

So, made a Namekian for the achievement for getting all of the main transformations. Namekians can also use Beast mode for some reason. Anyone got an explanation for THAT?
Also, for some reason, the Super Souls for boosting EXP gains didn't transfer over to my Namekian for some reason. Mainly the My Hobbies Are Reading & Sports one, which triples EXP gains at the cost of 0 Zeni (which is fine because I already have a shit ton of it on my Saiyan character). Is there any explanation for that? It transferred on my Human character beforehand & isn't available to be used on my Saiyan for some reason anymore.

If you only have one of that Super Soul and have it equipped to a character (even if it's saved on a preset), you can't use it on a different character. You can check how many you have available by checking your bag on the pause menu (not the changing equipment menu, there's a "Bag" button in there somewhere).Scsigs wrote: Tue Apr 08, 2025 9:10 pm So, made a Namekian for the achievement for getting all of the main transformations. As for Beast, it's not a race-specific form, much like Potential Unleashed. There's no indication it's a Super Saiyan form or anything, but it is sorta funny that any random Time Patroller can whip out what's supposed to be Gohan's unique transformation... but it's Xenoverse, so I wouldn't read into it too much.

Good luck. Years ago I went for Platinum and the last missing trophy for me is the tutorial battles. The input lag and timing in this game is so bad, that I decided not to invest more time in it as I got stuck on like the last few combo stringsScsigs wrote: Fri Apr 04, 2025 5:09 am So, I'm finally working my way towards finally getting all of the base game achievements for the game (whether I get the remaining DLC ones is another thing for future me).
