Wowzers, the 2013 Toriko movie received a better director and more battle scene animators. I don't think Oonishi did any action cuts for Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods. "First Dragon Ball movie in seventeen years what?"

But I read the Toriko movie failed miserably?

I also read the Toriko movie didn't do well earnings-wise. Reasons I can think for it getting a better budget were that it's an ongoing series where db is not, and also that Toei had been pushing really hard to try and make Toriko the next big thing.

That wouldn't stop the movie from having more talent before it is even released. It looks like the Blu-ray only sold 485 units.

Well this is the thread pertaining to any discussion on that movie..

I posted it to see if anyone was interested since the large images that they got from Toei along with Toei's production notes which hadn't been publicly released before in English. I was unsure if this site already had the info already posted. I was surprise to get a PM from Keith Aiken on another form that I go on since he told me that Sci-Fi Japan got a lot of traffic from Kanzenshuu the other day. He was surprise to see a big site that is pretty relevant for a forum devoted to only DBZ discussions.

Oh god have they ever. Though if the movie's performance really was as weak as you guys say it was, I can't imagine they've been very successful at that. And honestly I really wish they'd just stop. If only because the yearly crossovers between Toriko and One Piece are getting to be more of an annoyance than anything else. Heck, the only reason I even bothered watching the last one was because it was also a DB-crossover, making it two franchises I enjoy crossing over with one that I couldn't care less about.

The box office was 180 million yen, which is only 6 % of that of BoG.

I'd have hoped that they would have got the idea now that it's never going to be the cash-cow that they wanted it to be. Apart from OK TV ratings (which come largely through the benefit of being bundled with One Piece in the Dream 9 slot) it doesn't look like it will ever amount to anything more.

That's what has bothered me about Toriko from the start too. It seemed like it came out of nowhere and was being heralded as the next big thing for Shonen Jump, and yet...you actually had to look to find people talking about it. It just didn't gel with me. I'm checking into the manga now myself so I can make my own judgement on it though.

if there are fans of toriko I'm sorry for them becouse this bad figures,
but I've buyed some volumes of the manga, and i dont get it,
toriko is so uninspired and pinched, it is like someone had thought of a formula for the "perfect shonen" manga ... dragonball, one piece, hokuto no ken, pokemon ...
but there is no soul in this product ... indeed, i tried very hard to get into the manga, no chance.

Toriko's anime sucks. The manga is awesome, I like it very much, but the anime is bad. That's why it fails while the Toriko manga sells very well. In fact, Toriko's manga was the 13th best manga series in terms of sales in Japan in 2013 with almost 3 million sales: https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2 ... eries/2013

You can't artificially create the "next big thing" by shoving it down on people's throats...
In fact, i find it pathetic and hope that they will realize that it won't work and stop.

Its their own fault. They use subpar animation and art and censor everything in the Toriko anime, besides choosing a unappealing color palette for it.

Before Toei got their hands on Toriko another studio made an Toriko anime OVA of the first few chapters... and its SOOOOO much better than Toei that its not even funny. Toriko could have been a great anime, but not in Toei's hands.

Notice how the colors are bright to the point that they are unpleasant and kind of more childish, how the animation and art is worse (IMO at least), how everything is censored... And in later episodes its even worse.
