This. I would accept even one more movie after FnF to end the God Saga, but then Dragon Ball should stop. It's not going in a good direction, like you said.Suupaa Gohan 2 wrote:It is my fervent hope, and always has been, that no new series ever comes to pass. Particularly not under Toriyama's direction, else we get things like The Beerus Show and a Jaco arc. Let Dragonball be what it was and then be ended.
Even the occasional movie, while certainly fun, is unnecessary. The direction of these latest movies makes me worry for the original manga.

Anyway, I really hope that this movie gets a US theatrical release around the same time as Japan. I really can't see my self avoiding spoilers until the R2 drops.

Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2015 Movie Thread: "Fukkatsu no F"
It kind of does. Who else created Dragon Ball and spent week after week for 11 years drawing and writing its story?Suupaa Gohan 2 wrote:I'm not sure where you're getting "entitled" and "pretentious" from, sir. I don't dispute your right to your own opinion; why on earth should I be labeled for mine?KaiserNeko wrote:Oh, it's so dangerous how he continues to abuse the series! All this harm he's done! Someone call Series Protective Services!
Sorry, but this language you're using is obnoxiously overkill to me, and you come off as both entitled and pretentious. He is allowed to ignore any material he himself did not write. That includes all of GT, a series that isn't even a proper continuation of his manga, but a money-focused, poorly written, fustercluck of an anime that is popularly regarded as the worst of the three series.
Dragonball is his story. Not Toei Animation's, not yours, his.
Dragonball does not belong to one man. The fact that one man seems to have control of it with regard to the recent movies doesn't necessarily validate an exclusive ownership, nor does it give him the right to do whatever and screw Toei. I would think that if BoG had performed below expectation, Toei would have stepped up their involvement for the script with Revival of F. The success of BoG was, I think, mostly propelled by nostalgia and the fact that it was the first theatrical movie in 17 years and not necessarily because it was some sort of world class Dragonball. When it comes to Revival of F, whose script is being helmed entirely by Toriyama, the flaws are already starting to become evident even before we've seen the movie proper... because they're the same mistakes that were committed in BoG; lack of creativity and disregard for the underlying source material. Obviously we will need to actually SEE the movie before a final verdict can be made, but there are definitely some signs that Toriyama has gone off the deep end and needs someone or a group of someones to put him in check.
I don't see how BoG "disregarded" or shit on the Dragon Ball canon. How? By introducing a strong new character and expanding the universe and past lore, which literally happened throughout the entire series? By that logic, Toei should've gotten Dragon Ball out of crazy ol' Toriyama's hands when he introduced the Saiyans and revealed Goku was an alien, or when a Red Ribbon Army scientist created a androids more powerful than the most feared beings in the entire universe and a legend, or when Kais were expounded upon, or when a cosmic abomination like Buu who had been around for millions of years was introduced.
If Toriyama wants to add new material that alters the previous story or adds new details to it in some fashion, so what? That's what creating a good story is - doing new and interesting things, not simply playing it safe to preserve the fans' prior understanding of the series.
It's clear that Toriyama wants to add to the Universe and explore new things. And why should he not? If Toei was tasked with writing it instead, we'd probably get a cookie cutter throwaway movie that you'd only need for the novelty of new Dragon Ball and would likely explicitly rehash a previous story arc.

I don't really want to drag this point out any further by getting too in-depth about how I disagree and think the direction the series is going in is great, since I'm sure that's obvious from my past posts on here, but...yeah. I think that. Not that you can't think different or anything.

Me too! BOG arrived in Italy almost 1 year later its release in Japan (and I obviously watched it subbed) so I hope Revival of F comes earlierCashmanX wrote:I'd give my left nut for something like this.Suupaa Gohan 2 wrote:....we get things like The Beerus Show...

That would be great but :ArchedThunder wrote:My hope is that this is the last film of this series and we'll get a new anime with Toriyama as a lead writer after this.
1- I think it would be too much for him to do which would affect the story's quality.
2- A series won't make as much $$$ as a movie so the animation and everything else will go down hill.
I know it's hard waiting for a movie like this but the end result is a lot better then if we get a new series.
July 9th 2018 will be remembered as the day Broly became canon.

I don't want any new series I'm fine with Dragon Ball material to come once in every 2 years, but I want a beautyful trilogy of the Gods saga...sintzu wrote:That would be great but :ArchedThunder wrote:My hope is that this is the last film of this series and we'll get a new anime with Toriyama as a lead writer after this.

Did some checking. First leaks for last month's VJump came on the 18th (Wednesday).
This month's set up the same as last, so probably mid week again unless we get lucky.

Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2015 Movie Thread: "Fukkatsu no F"
Woah and I thought I was being negative. Toriyama and the new movie are seemingly screwing around with continuity and side characters, but it's not exactly ruining the entire product. It's not like Toriyama started throwing in painfully unfunny jokes, a reoccurring villain who was once cool becoming a laughing stock, having characters suddenly forget they know how to fight, having a big dumb strong guy meat head become someone's personality because as being strong means you have to be stupid, or having the reverse where if you're smart you have to be weak. Toriyama is still doing better than any of the toei stuff as I barely remember most of those other movies. Toriyama is at least memorable to me, while toei is so forgettable I forget most of the movies pretty easily.
Why Dragon Ball Consistency in something such as power levels matter!

I'm retired from Sonic; is all that stuff events that really happened to that franchise!? If so, yikes.
I read about the lawsuit that jettisoned most of the U.S. comic-only characters; that was probably the final nail in the coffin for me with that series.

Also, lucky Los Angeles, getting it subbed on the 11th of April.
I'm not a theater goer though, but then I'd have to wait.....guh!
I'll wait and see what happens with the east coast.

Before Japan ? how did they get it this fast ? this is the best news of the year without a doubt.thaman91 wrote:Funimation announces they will release this movie this summer! And it's called "Resurrection 'F'"!

So that means we won't have to wait 2 years to get the home release.

Color me shocked! That's a week before Japan's theatrical debut. I only wish that us fans on the East coast were spoiled once in awhile.

Good choice of title translation. Sounds...not as dumb as it might've.
