Yeah, but more and more people here continue making deals with the devil, but with the best intentions. And by that I mean: they buy this set while hoping that doing so will somehow magically convince FUNi to release a better one.

No one ever fucking learns. :x

Other than that the image quality here is very good with noticeable effort towards cleaning up the original print.
Yes. Effort. Automated DVNR effort. Huzzah.

I liked Funimations newly releaced widescreened Vegeta saga set, and they had improved the quality far better than what it looked like for the Ultimate Uncut sets.

My only complaint is that the widescreen format was bugging me everytime I had the subtitle option on, because I kept seeing the letterbox format more and more :?
The Ultimate Funimation Fangirl.

I can't recall having ever given my opinion on the set . . . and a'course, I'm assuming that I haven't, what with having been away for five months and all.

It's a fine set if not for the obvious . . . now it's just too bad that the "obvious" is just too much.

Simply put, FUNimation has no business altering the original aspect ratio-- nevermind that this comes after the years of frustration we've already endured as DBZ fans, and nevermind that the set is otherwise the "perfect" release everyone has been praying for; it's just something that shouldn't have been done, has no justification and makes no frickin' sense whatsoever. It's a baffling decision that ends up disrespectful to us, to the series as a whole and even to FUNimation themselves whether or not they can realize it.

I'm not saying that the cropped widescreen is bothersome or even particularly noticable outside of certain scenes. But we're still losing picture EVERYWHERE whether noticed or not, and that's too much of a compromise. I may as well go to McDonald's and order my double cheesburger without the top and bottom-- yeah, it's still meat, but it eats kinda stupid that way-- because that's pretty much how we're expected to watch our DBZ from now on.

Further thoughts possibly to come, as I do like to ramble and simply don't have the time right now.

Oh, and Corey, thanks for the welcome back! Not at all unnoticed, even if I've replied a bit late.

Lemmy: Absolutely retarded desicion on their part, but absolutely no one will do anything about it, to the extent where everyone here is simply laying down for it (with a few exceptions, of course).
