I'm sure seven episodes per disc will be fine with two audio tracks and subs. As has already been said, compression techniques and junk have improved over the last six years. Eight per disc would be pushing it, but I think we'll be more than fine.
I am kind of worried, for the first time ever, about possible bad sales here. The casual crowd already owns the series now, and that's the only reason the season sets sold like hotcakes, and since these sets cost more than the season sets, is anybody else worried that these might not make enough money to get all the way through release? Yeah, yeah, I know, "it's DragonBall," but seriously. I think this could be a legit concern here.
Has a release date been confirmed for the first box? I've read everything and haven't seen one mentioned.
Y'know, I can't help but wonder... the previews FUNi got for GT were removed on purpose from the season sets. Could it be that... Is it possible that... a double dip being planned of D-Box proportions?
... Nah. Couldn't be.

No, the originals are 6 eps to a disc, not 7. Plus, we have multiple audio tracks. If this is all true, its likely the R2 releases will still have higher bitrates. But I doubt you'd be able to tell the difference too much if the encoding is done well.ect5150 wrote:That's exactly the same as the originals.RoarkVegeta wrote: So we do have confirmed English dialog. but 42 episodes on 6 discs? hmm...
Personally, I feel like I've wasted a good chunk of money, but I'm betting if these sell well (and its likely they will) we will see BluRay releases from it. That's what I'm hoping for. BluRay DBox footage would completely rule.[/quote]They'd have to do it right on Blu-Ray, though. I heard the Dragon Box TV Series looks like ass in HD.
And MagicBox, the release date is November 10.

Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

Yeah, it's probably going to be 7 discs since my Dbox singles go up to ep 42 with 7 discs.ect5150 wrote: No, the originals are 6 eps to a disc, not 7. Plus, we have multiple audio tracks. I'm not really concerned about sales. Funi said that it's aimed for the hardcore fans, not casual, so they're probably expecting sales not to be as high as usual.

I figured we'd get this one day, just not right after I finished paying like $300 for the series. The $80 SRP will probably be more like $50 if Walmart and other discount vendors carry it, seeing as the SRP for the seasons were 50, and I never paid over 30 for one.
So what do we assume about GT and DB? I don't want to buy the DB seasons if they're going to release DBox versions in two years. Personally I'll probably wait for the inevitable release of Z on BluRay, probably immediately following this DBox DVD release.

TBH i don't think anyone could of seen this coming.Innagadadavida wrote:Somebody here said they had reason to believe FUNimation would be releasing the Dragon Box footage... I tore that guy a new one for saying something so stupid. A couple of other people did too. I wonder who he was and where he got his information.
I'm sorry, dude. If you're reading this.

Yeah, Blu-ray might be pointless in this case.jjgp1112 wrote:They'd have to do it right on Blu-Ray, though. I heard the Dragon Box TV Series looks like ass in HD.
I typically watch the Dragon Box disks upscaled to 1080i on a 47" HDTV, and if you're anything less than 10 feet from the screen, the level of film grain becomes very distracting.
But who knows... It certainly would suck to buy these on DVD only to have them released in better quality on Blu-ray.

Sales for the first Dragon Box volume will meet or exceed sales for the first orange brick back in 2007. Why? Because it's going to be yet another new way to see DragonBall ZEEEEEEE, for one, and for two because this will be the first time that a legit uncut 4:3 release of the first season (and consequently the second as well) ever made available. That alone should give this some weight.

Since the DBZ season sets have been selling really high, I don't think Funi cares about how these sell. Also you have to think that there will be importing around the world for these sets.MagicBox wrote:I'm sure seven episodes per disc will be fine with two audio tracks and subs. The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

I will be buying the DVDs unless we get infomation on an eventual Blu-ray release and i will wait it out.
But still i can't see them improving the quality of these masters for a Blu-ray release.

Fuck, there'll be a god deal of reverse importing for Japan for the price these sell.

Has there been any word on what the english voice track will contain? Do you think that it would be possible for a redubbed voice track, or will it just carry over the two english voice tracks from the orange bricks because of the Dragon Box's focus on the Japanese audio track.

My question is what's stopping Toei from throwing a bitch fit about how many Japanese folks are going to be importing these because it's still cheaper than buying the R2 singles.
My *ahem* skepticism towards FUNi in the past is leading me to believe that I shouldn't let myself get carried away with this announcement, but god dammit I just want to believe.

Nonsense, this is a day of celebration. I'd hug each and every one of you if I could.Li'l Lemmy wrote:

I can't imagine why there would be any new dubbing at all (not counting next episode previews, a'course), but fuck it-- I've been wrong about a lot of shit lately, so who the hell knows?P.R.P. wrote:Has there been any word on what the english voice track will contain?
