The problem wasn't its gruffness. He looks like a gruff character, the problem is that the acting wasn't good.
Was Don Brown really that bad as Kaio-sama?
In my opinion, no.
I have no idea what this means.its like hes trying to sound like a guy in a suit of armor and failing miserably at it.

@Ree Yep. Sounded appropriately aged and didn't overplay the cutesy factor.
@ABED Not much better than Sean Schemmel from what I've heard. I honestly don't know how North Kai's voice can be translated in English but nothing has worked so far.
Was Kent Williams really that good as Kaioshin?

In Final Fantasy Dissidia he voices the final boss of the original final fantasy game and with the filter it sounds like hes actually in an armor suit, many shows use filters or tweak the voice so if a character is wearing armor they can try and match it accordingly.
As for Don Brown hes pretty bad but not the worst.

Re: Was _ really that bad/good as _?
I don't think Don Brown is bad at all. It's a silly sounding voice, but not in an obnoxious way. He's able to show a range of emotions and I buy him as a wise martial arts master, it's simply that his voice and look merely look as though it contradicts his more serious self. I know that's not well written, but I'm not a wordsmith. Schemmel just sounds like he has marbles in his mouth.
There's no filter with King Vegeta. In Final Fantasy Dissidia he voices the final boss of the original final fantasy game and with the filter it sounds like hes actually in an armor suit, many shows use filters or tweak the voice so if a character is wearing armor they can try and match it accordingly.
No, I enjoyed it, just like I enjoy the actor in Kai.Was Scott McNeil really that bad as Jeice?
I don't think it's the difficult. I think Brice Armstrong and perhaps Kai's narrator would've made a great Kaio-sama and think it's a darn shame they never tried that.I honestly don't know how North Kai's voice can be translated in English but nothing has worked so far.
Yeah, I don't love the character, but I like the voice. It's similar to the original without being an imitation. I like Williams as an actor and just the sound of his voice. Was Kent Williams really that good as Kaioshin?

I don't like too cartoony voices but yeah Sean is even worse
Didn't say King Vegeta had a filter i described other characters with one.

If King Vegeta doesn't have a filter, how does he sound like a guy who sounds like he's in a suit of armor?
Brice's voice seemed too mature for a character like Ginyu who appears to be in his prime

There are limits and being a cartoon does NOT mean "be annoying as possible.
I said he was trying to sound like those but not succeeding
Yeah he wasn't well cast as him
Was Doc Morgan (i think he's the one in Kai) really that good as the narrator?

Alright I'm going to quote "TheBlackPaladin" because he said it best.Ree wrote:If your problem is exaggeration then what about Peter's serious moments where he doesnt do so?
That scene could be interpreted in any way for me
Let's take Ryan Drummond.
His voice is good on Sonic but his voice doesn't quite fit recolors the way it does the real Sonic
It could be the same for Goku and Tullece
A simple recolor shouldn't mean the voice needs to change but it just doesn't fit as well
COULD Nozawa have been good as both of them? sure.
WAS she? not to me
. I do agree with her casting as Tullece, though. The whole point of the character is that he's basically Bizarro Goku, what Goku could have become. So I was disappointed that none of Goku's English voices in the various Tree of Might dubs voiced him

He could've sounded WAY more annoying. You found that voice annoying, but not Nadolny's ridiculous Goku voice annoying?Ree wrote:There are limits and being a cartoon does NOT mean "be annoying as possible.
I said he was trying to sound like those but not succeeding
Yeah he wasn't well cast as him

Was Doc Morgan (i think he's the one in Kai) really that good as the narrator?

Re: Was _ really that bad/good as _?
Doc Morgan's incredible. I like him slightly more than Brice Armstrong since he sounded a bit more dynamic without going over the top although he was narrating for the DBZ portion of the series, where everything's more "radical" than the previous era. Speaking of Armstrong and Morgan, I see a few people say that either one of them should've been North Kai and I have to ask why. I mean, is it only done because the Japanese version has their narrator voice North Kai so they feel that the English dub should follow suit? Just curious.

Many Sonic recolors can be considered what Sonic could be but with an angstey back story.

Yes he was! I really don't dig the FUNanimation dub but god he was right on the spot!Ree wrote:Was Ian Corlett really that good as Kami?
Mario Castañeda was a neat Goku, and captures the innocence and free spirit of the character; he is a really good voice actor overall, being the voice for The Wonder Years' old Kevin Arnold narrator, McGuyver's Richard Dean Anderson, and all Bruce Willis translations.TheGmGoken wrote:Was Latino Goku (I don't know his name) really that good as Goku?
The subjective problem is that he just don't sound like Nozawa-sama, and for me, that's a big turn-off.
Now for a question:
Was the whole Spanish (from Spain) DB cast really that bad as... The DB cast? Lol

Re: Was _ really that bad/good as _?
I believe either should have voiced North Kai because they have great elderly and wise men voices but could also sound like a seasoned martial arts teacher who is eccentric but kind the way King Kai should sound- even Don Brown came far closer to that than Sean Schemmel ever has and ever will at this point.Lunatic Fringe wrote:peaking of Armstrong and Morgan, I see a few people say that either one of them should've been North Kai and I have to ask why. What's your point ? I don't know how many times I have to say the same thing, Tullece is what goku would have been if he had not hit his head. (Also don't bother responding as I'm blocking you)Ree wrote:ABED

He's pretty good actually for GT Vegeta, second best in my opinion.
I thought Ted was good as Yamcha though not as good as Victor from BW DB.
How about as Gogita?

Okay, we can't be watching the same show because out of all the weird claims you've made, THIS one makes the least sense. Your reasoning makes even less sense. All the time
That gave me the idea, but when I think about Kaio's qualities, I think Armstrong would work. I know he can pull off the wise old martial arts master, I just haven't heard him do comedy. I know it's a low bar, but he can't be worse than Schemmel. I also think his voice could work with Kaio-sama's design.I mean, is it only done because the Japanese version has their narrator voice North Kai so they feel that the English dub should follow suit? Just curious.
