Whether they are or aren't, it's what was said in the series. Goku didn't return home for a long period of time.

I can buy Goku not returning home, he doesn't really care about most of his family when they're not in danger. Honestly, the only people I can say Goku actually loves to anything approaching the textbook definition of the word are Grandpa Gohan and Pan.
When someone tells you, "Don't present your opinion as fact," what they're actually saying is, "Don't present your opinion with any conviction. Because I don't like your opinion, and I want to be able to dismiss it as easily as possible." Don't fall for it.

I don't think that's fair at all. He clearly loves Gohan and was there for him more often than people give him credit for. He was there for the first 4 years of his life, for the three years before the cyborgs and he stayed with his family for years after Kid Buu was killed. It seems like less, but while the series is long, most of the events in the show happen over the course of a few days.

I'm not saying he doesn't like his family or hates them, I'm just saying he doesn't really, actively care about their feelings or well being unless they're in-danger. Hence why I can buy him pretty much ditching them for 5 years to train Oob: it doesn't hurt them or put them in danger the way he understands it so its okay for him to ditch them.

Goku spent only a year on Yardrat and he only learned one technique out of at least a few. That tells me that he left because he wanted to get home.
