And now I'm reminded that those two arcs alone are going to take us through the first two sets most likely. Oi...

That said though, I'm psyched to watch it all again in English, especially cuz now I'll get to watch them with my fiance too.

On the bright side, so long as Toonami doesn't end up with this series, whichever network this ends up on could easily breeze through those two arcs

Is Emperor Pilaf still played by the same VA? I find his voice absolutely hilarious and fitting in the dub.

Even if its the same voice as Garlic Jr., only more high pitched and comical.

Chuck Huber is his normal actor, yeah. He's also 17.

Aww... Laura Bailey isn't voicing Kid Trunks in Super. :( She's been super busy with other stuff, she's a huge actress in the video game industry. She's being replaced by Alexis Tipton.

This doesn't interest me. I already know what's gonna happen so I'll probably only watch the notable Super episodes in English.

Just curious, why would you open up a thread specifically about the announcement of the dub if you werent interested in it?

Bummer about Kid Trunks & the Narrator - would have been awesome to hear Kyle Hebert deliver his iconic "Next time on Dragon Ball" again (though I suppose they'll have Goku read that part again, like in Kai).

Really, really psyched about the clips, though. Sean Schemmel is at the top of his game as Goku - and, though I know many disagree, it was good to hear his King Kai again as well.

Same. It gets a bad rep but he pulls off being the indignant straight man to Goku's antics pretty damn well.

Oh wow I didn't even notice the narrator is still the guy from Kai. I mean, on the one hand I'm not surprised since he was in Kai, but on the other hand they used Hebert in BoG and so I was kind of hoping he'd be the narrator in Super too.

And I for one love English King Kai. He was at his best in BoG, I always loved his terrified "Hold onto your bananas, Bubbles!"

What's there to nitpick? I think the dub nailed it.

Because I'm not totally dis-interested in it. If I had to choose between Japanese and English I would go with English but we already know what's gonna happen at this point since I'll finish the series in Japanese.

I've honestly never minded Sean Schemmel's Kaio. It's obviously very different from Joji Yanami's take on the character, but it's a very different take that I think still works. Sure, this is a subjective matter, but...*shrug*, I subjectively feel that it makes sense for a voice like that to come out of a character that looks like that. There are some performances and casting choices in the various English dubs that I don't feel were good, especially after listening to the original Japanese version, and you'd think his performance as Kaio would be one of the performances I'd take issue with, but....nope. I think it fits.
A "rather haggard" translation of a line from Future Gohan in DBZ, provided to FUNimation by Toei:
"To think of fighting that is this fun...so, it was pleasant fight, as many as, therefore is a feeling which is good the fight where."

Yeah I've never understood the hate that English Kai gets. I've always loved that voice and thought it fit the character and the way he acts moreso than the Japanese voice did

Of course, I say that meaning no disrespect to the Japanese actor. I don't dislike him, but his pre-existing position as the Narrator always led me to believe they picked him to be the voice for symbolic reasons before they found out how eccentric and over-the-top Toriyama would actually make the character

Yeah, I mean King Kai isn't really the most serious of characters, and especially in the clip he's just yelling in a comedic way. I think it works.
