While I don't have the new widescreen release, the posted pictures are actually the nicest ones we've seen. The only issues are widescreen and slightly brighter (but brightness is an easy fix on about every TV out there).

However, there is no need to bring up DragonBox to make some sections of the previous boxsets look bad, you could compare them to the old FUNI singles and still make that happen. We only bring it up because its the highest standard of consistent quality for the entire series available.

The best thing about the posted / comparing of the screenshots is mainly to hash-out accurate information about ALL products and let each of us decide what to do now (on our own).

For instance, based on the above shots, I'm considering grabbing the widescreen release is I catch it on a good sale (anybody want to recommend a good site for dirt cheap to me?)

Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt.

My post got magically deleted...

Anyways, in the shot that I provided, you can actually see the brush strokes, where as in the Season 3 set, you can't. It still looks "okay" though. I've seen A LOT worse.

EDIT: Never mind about my post being deleted, I was just looking at the wrong page.

Actually, you'll wanna find out what the reference levels for all of the above are using test patterns. You can use the cheaper THX Optimizers found on some DVD's, or get something like GetGray/Digital Video Essentials and some color gels. That way, honestly, you can see how accurate the colors are (for this set, and anything else for that matter on DVD). It makes a world of difference on any setup.

If you want help with any of it, let me know.

Agreed. Hell, I'm not trying to be a snob by bringing them up (and I'm glad I don't come off as one to some), I'm just referencing what is (in my opinion) the reference version of the series. Obviously, Toei/Pony Canyon put effort and financial backing into the sets that FUNimation can't or won't. Hell, my only point in going against FUNi is not to kick the asses of fans, but to get people to want something better and demand as much. It worked when I was in the medical industry, hence why my getting patients involved solved so many contractual disputes with insurance companies.

In the Dragonball fandom, people act like my contesting FUNimation is the same as anally raping their grandmother while pissing on their grave. I don't get it O_o;

Check Best Buy and see if they goof the price again (unlikely), or hit Deep Discount.com. It shouldn't be hard to find this set for $20-something dollars though.

If you have a CRT display, you'd want to get Digital Video Essentials which is $18.99 on Amazon.com. It comes with color gels for the color calibration.

If you have a plasma or a LCD, you'd want GetGray which is $25. Unfortunately, you'd need to buy gels seperately, but you could find them online for cheap.

If you need more help, PM me.

I wonder if FUNi will be redubbing Freeza's "Whatever turns you on big guy" or any of the other lame jokes.

According to Akira, who already owns the set, that line and others still exist. Neither Schemmel nor Young came in to re-record, so a lot of the "uncomfortable" dialogue between their characters is still the same.

So with this set as an example, it would seem that what's done is done from here on out for the rest of the series . . . well, unless you're Christopher Sabat. Do what you want with Season Three, FUNimation; just make sure to give me the Big Bang Attack in Season Four, instead of "Here's a little going away present!!"

For serious. That was one of the single most baffling translations I had heard, considering Ryo Horikawa (basically) says it in English :P

It's so sick the way he says it, too-- he's pretty much drunk off his own power and full of himself by that point (and dare I say it, happy). It's not perfect English, but why worry about pronunciation when you can pull off the Badass Muthafucker look?

Yeah, seriously. I can't understand it. He says it, he fucking says it, so WTF?! It's a goddamned ATTACK NAME. The way FUNimation screwed with that one, it's equivalent to Borg that announce their plans to assimilate you without the trademark "We are the Borg. Resistance is futile."

For anyone who is interested, the Best Buy store I work at already has the Season 3 sets on the shelf. So you might check your local Best Buy if you are looking to get the set soon.

And, one side note, reading back over the topic since my last post, I see that Corey wasn't being negative. I think I percieved it that way because when I made that last post, I'd just come home from having some drinks with my boss and a couple co-workers after work that day. You can tell that was the case since I was overly kind in my compliment to Lemmy in the same post. Not that I don't think he's a great guy, I just usually would not be complimentry to that extent.

I need to not come in after drinking and say to myself, "Oh, I think I'll get online for awhile." More often than not, it leads to problems. That's another story for another time though.. :?

Eh? It didn't come off as overly kind-- seemed about right to me. And at any rate, I appreciated the compliment.

As for that other business? Ne. I don't think anyone perceived it negatively per se, Akira. I know that what you said wasn't anything like an attack, and despite that I jumped in on his behalf I'm sure that Corey knew it too.

Whether you came off as harsh or not, you still expressed your viewpoint calmly and without the intention of setting off an argument (or so it appeared to me), and that's really the important thing-- it's when people go running their heads full-speed into one another's on purpose that things tend to get stupid around here.

No worries, y'know.

Cool. My parents aren't home now, so I'll check Best Buy tommorow.

Pigs take to the sky as sub and dub fans speak with one voice: "Don't do that! You'll ruin it!"

Fortunately, the devil only got a mild case of shivers, as the two side immediately went back to arguing over what exactly got ruined.

Please do. If for no other reason than because I want to see the pigs fly like Rocketman was talking about.

Ok here's the sample I made of the Super Saiyajin transformation. It's an MKV file you can play with VLC Player, the filesize is about 87 MB. I included all 3 language tracks, too (because it didn't make a big difference in filesize whether I did or not.) You should be able to change between them under "Audio Track" in VLC Player:

Also, does anyone have any idea why my account was just deleted? I just remade my account just now and as you can see my old posts now say "Guest." If I did something wrong I'd like to know about it. Pretty bizzare if you ask me.

Have you done anything to the colours here?

I am surprised how bad this looks actually. It's horribly misframed, full of noise and scratches, and looks to have the wrong colours. This is hardly a revelation I know, but it seems worse than usual here. Awesome.
