Dare I say it? I LIKE THE DOUBLE FEATURE BETTER! 8)

Sure it's a little less detailed because of the "remastering" process, but the color tones are just so nice!

It actually looks just as sharp as the Dragon Box, just with no grain.

Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

While I don't think these releases are bad by any means (I intend to eventually pick them up on Blu Ray myself) it is a little sad to see the colours get worse with each set.

I'm sorry, but I think Movie 3's colors top this in terms of bad quality.
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
You guys think movie 5 has bad color quality? Didn't you see the Dbox comparison?

I agree they look almost the same.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

Nothing will make them happy, except over priced imports.

Pretty much and for the most part.
I completely respect your opinion, and I respect you. I enjoyed discussing this with you, even if I don't completely agree.

The fact of the matter is, you can not do a fair comparison between screenshots unless they are processed exactly the same way. In this post, we have one image at 800×450 pixels, and another at 853×480. Neither of these is the correct size, but even if they were, they would both need to have the same dimensions in order to be comparable.
Dude, I've tried pushing this before and nobody listens.

Although I wish they would!

Unless you know exactly what you're doing, just take your images and resize them to 875x480 or 656x480 for comparisons (or 702x513 works as well for the 4x3 image, if you want to extrapolate like we are doing with the 16x9 image... I think... anyways). The only other thing to really add to it is the possible cropping of the outer-most left and right pixels that aren't shown. But that might just help them with their own encodes.

They should read this!!!!!! But I don't think they give a damn.

These are the kind of bullshit statements that start to get threads locked by the admin.

I am sorry really, I just think that that Japanese dvds are too expensive. almost 30 bucks for a 50 minute movie is a little much for me even if they do have pretty covers.

If I may make a request; Could comparisons between the singles, Dbox, and Double Features of movies 1 - 4 be brought forth in the same format as jjgp1112, if possible?

Because Japanese media IS expensive compared to what one is normally accustomed to in the US.

Also, movie 5's quality looks great. The only thing keeping it from looking slightly better than the Dragon Box is that it has a very slightly brighter hint to it. Other than that, it looks amazing.

Too bad the same can't be said for movie 6's blue tint.

I agree, movie 5 looks spectacular, but the slightly brighter coloring does seem to take away from the detail of the animation just a tad.

But who am I to complain, it looks great!

jjgp1112 wrote:Also, another thing about the dub music's audio mix this time around: Most of the songs play earlier than they did originally. The scene ruined the most by this is probably the scene where Cooler attacks Piccolo. In the original version, the opening guitar riff played right when Piccolo got shot by Cooler's death beam, but this time, it plays when Cooler says, "Sauza, leave it to me!". I liked it better originally, because it was one of those, "Shit just got real!" moments.
God damn. Why does FUNi have to find ways to screw up the things that people actually LIKED in their Dub. -_-

But anyway, with those comparisons. As far as Movie 5 goes. The Double Features trumps the DBOX in this case. Just about the same coloring, minus the grain and no loss of detail. Beautiful. IMO the slightly upped brightness looks nice.

I'm gonna agree with Gozar. I like the dragonbox, but its level of darkness is sometimes annoying. Now if it was as bright as FUNimation's, but with the same level of detail, I'd like that. This goes for movie five currently; I think movie 6 looks horrible.

For some reason the DBOX Movies also look "foggy". I wonder why this is because the TV series doesn't look like that.

Trust me, when you watch them on a TV they do not look "foggy" one bit. They look gorgeous as if they were animated recently.
