Oh wow. Did Goku really said that about Gohan?

Wow I thought he was nicer about it. I take back what I said about him being a good dad. Sounds more like he says he'd be totally useless .

These lines of dialogue are hilarious to me:

Vegeta: “What about Gohan? Frankly, he’s probably the one with the highest potential.”
Goku: “No way! He does nothin’ but study all the time. He can’t even find his dougi anymore!”

Vegeta actually sticking up for Gohan, and Goku saying no way.

My god, even Vegeta has more faith in Gohan than Goku now.

Goku sounds just like the my uncle who would say something like that. That is not coming off as being thoughtful. That's just another way of saying "You're lazy and you're so bad you can't keep track of something so simple" The Gohan shame train will never end. Get used to it guys . When even Vegeta has more faith than Goku, that's just damn sad, and hilarious.

Why are you people so enthralled with Gohan? He was never that great of a character nor was he much of a fighter. Why continue to whine about this when his characterisation has been set in stone since he first showed up? Who the heck whines about a character not being a brawler type?
He isn't needed. There isn't one negative consequence of this tournament. It's there for those who want to participate. Gohan only fights when necessary. Even when he does fight he accomplishes nothing so what's the point? He has a job, a wife. and a kid. Leave him be.
Why does it matter to you what characters people like/want to root for/seem more off?
As for your question, Mike pretty much sums it up here.
He devolved into saying only one word. Time to hit the ol' cosmic trail.

Champa and Beerus' flashback reminds me of Raku's fan-comics of them. XD

Many thanks for the translation, Herms!

There are some amusing lines like Goku ruling out Gohan, or the Jaco moments, but i think my favorite part of the chapter is Piccolo at the very end, reacting like he's used to wonder why exactly Goku and Vegeta are attracted to Chi-chi and Bulma, lol.

Vegeta has better judgement than Goku. This confirms Gohan will not be relevant, which is OK, but Goku's attitude in this pisses me off a bit. Has he met the Cell Games version of himself? The one that put everything on his son succeeding him? Bleh.

I think cell games has a lot to do with goku's attitude.

The funniest thing about this exchange is that Goku is the asshole, and Vegeta is the nice one. It's like the two of them switched roles. I could see this exact conversation playing the same, but Vegeta says what Goku says. It's so bizarre for Vegeta to be the nice guy.

Remember Goku spent 7 years dead away from his family and never once thought to contact them through King Kai or anything.

Goku doesn't care about Gohan anymore.

Sounds like great writing! I wonder if Piccolo being there at the end means that he already agreed to join the team.

This flashbacknwith Beerus and Champa.... are they little kids or do they just look the same as they do already?

Otherwise the chapter sounds very interesting.

Goku's comment on Gohan is getting blown out of proportion. Goku says things like this all the time and while it may sound bad coming out his mouth, knowing his character and the way he says it makes it different.

At this point we as Gohan fans need to stomp blaming Toriyama for making Gohan this way as Gohan has wanted to be a scholar since day one and was forced to fight all the time, we never got the Goku successor we were looking for.

Which is why Toriyama needs to retcon the ending and have Chi-Chi get knocked up again.

Goku sounds just like my uncle who has said the same thing when scolding a deadbeat.

Actually you can. He wrote the character so he's entirely to blame. However crying about it is not going to change jack shit. I kinda think if Toriyama had a second chance, I'm sure he'd have gotten rid of the Gohan build up so he'd be more like Goten and Trunks, and to a lesser extent Pan and Bra. I feel he might even regret putting that much emphasis on Gohan at this point. Same with Goten and Trunks.

Why not just use Pan? She seemed to like fighting at least early on in the EOZ. She even joined the tournament while Goten and Trunks didn't want to. It'd be a waste to not just use Pan.

This chapter truly sounds brilliant, and I'm so glad it's not going to be a movie (I hope) as this way it can actually take its time telling bits of the story instead of rushing it and cutting things out.

I really need to see this chapter!

By the way, did Champa see Vegeta and Goku fighting before they had there heavy suits on? Surely that's why he called them push overs, right?

wow it sucks that gohan is being treated this way. He doesnt have to be the main character or anything like that, but it seems absurd to make him as useless as yamcha. People were talking about how useless he was in GT, but now it looks a lot worse than that. I mean hes gokus son after all. At this point i feel like akira is just trolling us.

I'm not happy with Gohan's treatment either but I'm not surprised. Gohan has always been a pacifist, mostly fighting only when it was absolutely necessary or he was enraged. E.g. Ginyu force, 2nd form Frieza, Cell, Super Buu. He's never fought for sport like Goku and Vegeta and definitely lacks that thirst for battle. While I think if it wasn't for Chi Chi drumming it into him to be a scholar Gohan would have chosen a different path (look at Future Gohan for example), this is the version of Gohan we have now and it's true to character so we better get used to it.

Also this new arc is getting epic, surely Piccolo needs a power up now that he's dropped to Zarbon level.

As brought up, he ain't really needed. After all this is so far just a tournament. Even if Goku's team loses, the earth goes to U6 which isn't something that seems would effect the planet or it's people. So really it's fighting for sport. Gohan ain't needed to fight for sport, nor would he want to. Goku's comment though....pretty dickish and surprising. Vegeta surprisingly is the one who seems kinder between the two of them surprisingly.
