Sounds like a mistake on Toriyama's part and someone at Toei corrected it. They did the same for Resurrection 'F' where Toriyama's script had Freeza claimed that he met Bulma on Namek, which wasn't the case at all, and they changed it in the actual movie.

That could be a possibility if not for Toei to have remained vague about the timeline of Beers arc. "Several months" is pretty specific but if they wanted to "correct" it they could have outright said "and four years passed".

They probably just decided to leave it vague and let the fans assumes it takes place in the same time period as the movies since Pan is born, and Gohan and Videl have been married for awhile. Unless you believe that Gohan and Videl finished high school (They're both 16 in the manga during the Buu Saga), got a steady job, lost his power-up from Old Kai, all the span of six months to a year.

Based on the first two episodes, fans would assume it was very soon after the Boo Arc. I'm talking about the World Peace prize for defeating Boo in the first episode and Vegeta fulfilling his promise to Trunks.

He'd only be 16 at the start. The Boo Arc begins in April and his birthday would be in May prior to the Tenka'ichi Budokai. Even counting the RoSaT, he wouldn't be 18 because they didn't spend a full year in there.

Conference could be many things, one could attend a conference as student.

Yeah, a conference just implies a meeting of invitees to share in practice, ideas and knowledge or to attend workshops. One would assume, given Gohan's status as a 'scholar', that said conference is academic in nature, and that if not there an attendee, then he may have been there as a presenter.

But yeah, sparse in-Universe details aside, from an out of universe perspective, it was merely a plot device to write him out of the arc.
