Goten and Trunks were not even born, they are the characters you can sacrifice the most for the concept of this movie!

Goku is the main character of the series after all. But seems this movie may focus on Vegeta.

Majin Boo has no place in a movie about Freezer. Again, Namek crew first + bonus characters that already existed at the time.
Those who lack power or who were not part of the story back then may be discarded, they have no business in the concept of this movie.

And it's always been shown that Boo will only get involved if he or Mister Satan were directly attacked.
Even during Son Goku and His Friends Return, he just didn't care! Same for those who consider Movie 13 canon.

Yes, ok, it makes sense but ... may I remember you that Trunks definitelly killed Mecha-Freeza. So something could have been done about Trunks and Freezer.

Yamcha not being in the movie for that reasoning seems kinda dumb. Roshi and Jaco are there for crying out loud! Not looking forward to all the "Yamcha is useless jokes" comments in the future, because it hasn't been run into the ground or anything.

Edit - Kinda glad that Goten and Trunks could be out. Could do with less Saiyan characters honestly. I hope they do show up at some point in their teenage bodies though.

In a perfect world, I'd like to see everyone. But if we had to cut back on characters, I would boot Goten and Trunks off fairly quickly. Same with Majin Buu. Aside from Yamcha and Chaozu, I'm perfectly fine with the cast we have now.

Quit jumping on Toriyama for everything. The whole cast doesn't need to be in every movie. I seem to recall 13 other Dragon Ball Z films like that...

That's not the point. The point is that the explanations to why they're out (Goten, Trunks and Boo in particular) just scream lazy and bad writing. Not to mention that I'd rather choose characters with a bigger connection to the villain, and Trunks, Goten and Boo would provide some interesting interactions with Freeza unlike some characters like Tenshinhan and Roshi, who Freeza has never met before.

And I see no reason to take it serious as well, unless Toriyama shows up with something that comes from that manga... Similar to what happened to Tarble's manga of Ooishi Naho.

The manga's adapting the movie, very important parts actually, so of course it's to be taken seriously. Maybe the move will cut or add scenes and change dialogue but until it's out, this is what we'll have to base our opinions on.

Listen, Dragon Ball has amassed an enormous cast over the years. It would be unrealistic to expect every character gets their moment to shine in every film. This movie is already doing a better job at incorporating side characters than most of the others with Tien, Roshi, and even Jaco having roles. I know it's disappointing that Goten, Trunks, and Buu won't be involved, but just look at all the other characters who ARE involved. Personally I'd take Tien being a badass against fodder over Gotenks jobbing to the main villain any day.
