wow wow this second chapter completely blows the first one out the water!
-Whis can time travel and seems to be a great sensei
-For people obessed with power levels, what Beerus does must please them (or maybe not).
-They really didn't have too, but unlike the other movies, Toriyama was kind enough to explain the absence of the rest of the z fighters
God, Beerus and Whis are so interesting. They became my favourite duo.
That's why i got disappointed when the two new characters Toriyama was drawing turn out to be mere Freeza Soldiers. I demand another great god duo.
This series has too much potential. Demigra was the last example.

Honestly, what's the big deal about Goten and Trunks not being in the movie? What have they EVER done that was useful? If they were in the movie it would be the same old thing... they fuse, do something stupid and are unable to actually affect the battle at all. They've never actually managed to do anything with all the power they have. They're still just kids despite the fusion dance and their ability to go SSJ. Even in the Yo! Son Goku special it's apparent they are kids who do not know how to win the day. They're essentially useless until they learn how to actually fight. Their power only allows them to not get killed despite their stupid decisions. You'd think people would understand by now that power alone does not necessarily make you the better fighter... this is why Goku still usually gets the upper hand even when he is at a disadvantage. This is why Gohan isn't as good as Goku even with his power, though at least he was never as stupid as Goten and Trunks as a kid when it came to fighting.
Personally, I'm really glad that they're not in there. Same for Buu... because this movie gives us a bit of the old cast that was honestly my favorite part of the series. Freeza arc into Cell arc is the best stuff and I preferred that cast of characters to the enhanced silliness of the children and fat buu.
I feel like people are WAY overthinking this. This film is meant to give you that feeling of the older DBZ and that's why the other characters aren't in it. It doesn't really matter why and you don't have to like that, but I mean if you are gonna question why Roshi is there when they are not then you fundamentally don't understand. Roshi is just there because he is part of the old cast... in-universe reasoning doesn't matter too much but you can just assume that he just happened to be there at the time. He may not actively be seeking out fighting. If you question his strength... why? He may have gotten as strong as Krillin at this point for all we know. Maybe his efforts in fighting aren't even that effective but he tries anyway.
I just don't understand SUCH A NEGATIVE REACTION. You can't give screen time to all the characters all the time and be able to flesh each one of them out to make a movie with a limited run-time truly interesting.

I didn't get the impression that Whis could time travel. More like, quickly "hop" back in time a short distance.
Nothing really implied full-on time travel powers to me.

But the dead caused Boo to be born. It was partly Goku's fault. His logic is ridiculous. Also apparently they care more about them than the safety of millions...even though they'd be a huge asset...ok...Zephyr wrote:Fair enough. Although there was the whole "I want the living to defend the living world" thing Goku was on about. So Goku had his reasons there, just like Bulma has her reasons here. I wouldn't say that either are extremely pragmatic in these two situations, but I think it's understandable for the characters to have these kinds of fallible lapses in judgment from time to time.dbzfan7 wrote:Um they weren't the last line of defense even there. Goku himself could have taken out Boo at any time. He literally chose them to do it when he could have done it.
The "Dende send everyone a message" line from the translation likewise seems to somewhat parallel the whole "we need everyone" line from the blog. And that comes before people being left out. So "we need everyone" but "these people should probably stay out of it". Perhaps they're conflicted, perhaps they'll regret not bringing these extra people, who knows. Would certainly be better for me if they make some comment in the vein of "maybe we should have brought them", or having them show up regardless.dbzfan7 wrote:They seem to. Gohan even seems to say the same line that he thinks he can go Super Saiyan.
More assumptions, that seem to go against the implication that Bulma felt they're liabilities. Bulma can always be wrong though, which would be great.dbzfan7 wrote:Of course they are more mature. Freaking Goku became more mature as he grew up. It's doubtful Goten and Trunks haven't matured at all.
There's no good reason to not bring them. People could die and they should help protect their planet.
Why Dragon Ball Consistency in something such as power levels matter!

The funny thing is that Tenshinhan protects Chaozu and Yamcha because its dangerous for them.
Bulma protects Trunks and Goten (like mothers do).
But my old man Roshi is on the frontlines, ready to kick some ass.

He could have killed Nappa the minute he arrived but didn't which almost got Gohan&Krillin killed.Doctor. wrote:How does Goku get overconfident? Can someone refresh my memory?
He could have prevented Freeza from reaching his full power but didn't.
He knew if he went Ssj against #19 it would have made things worse but did it anyway.
He stopped training for Cell in order to let Gohan be the one to beat him even though there was a chance Gohan wouldn't have been able to control Ssj2.
He could have prevented Buu from hatching by defeating Vegeta with Ssj3 but didn't.
He let Buu live so Goten&Trunks could beat him which lead to everyone getting killed and the planet blowing up.
July 9th 2018 will be remembered as the day Broly became canon.

Super Saiyan transformation.
He did?
True.
He wanted to spare Vegeta's feelings and didn't want to waste his time on Earth.
True, but that's not exactly a combat situation.

Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2015 Movie Thread: "Resurrection '
Just thought I'd add in a few more of my thoughts:DragonBoxZTheMovies wrote:So assuming the 'Whis can time travel' thing is accurate (with respect to the translators, they do have a tendency to be off on the odd thing every once in a while), I'm guessing this is foreshadowing the fact that Earth gets destroyed during the fight but Whis is able to have this all undone.
Funny, I was thinking about this exact situation this morning. I was leaning more towards Kaio or Kaioshin and Whis being able to rebuild worlds however, as mentioned in Battle of Gods. While it was never outright stated that Whis could do this, I believe it was mentioned in promotional material at one point.
- It's really cool that we're learning more about Whis. Such a fascinating character, honestly one of my favourites in the whole series and I was really disappointed that we didn't get more from him in BOG (the poster!). And to think he might not have existed had they used the original BOG script. Is it to much to hope that the next movie will be focussed entirely around him?
- Looking forward to seeing how Jaco comes into the mix. I was watching the trailer again yesterday, and there was something surreal about him appearing alongside the other Z Warriors. I kinda had a hunch that they would do something more with his character, but just seeing him in motion brought tears of awesomeness to my eyes.
- I'm still not seeing anything about Tagoma's return. Were people just getting him mixed up with Sorbet again?
- I'm guessing the Manga is skipping over a little bit here, which is to be expected.
- I don't see anything wrong with leaving out a few key players. At least they're acknowledging their absence and, in a way, it makes the situation a little more dire and I could feel a sense of urgency coming through that translation.
- Maybe the aim is to defeat Freeza's army without causing too much destruction, hence why Goten and Trunks had to be left behind. Their fighting style is probably a little on the erratic side. Just because they're not involved in the fight doesn't mean they won't appear. There might be a throwaway shot of them sitting in Trunks' room playing video games while we see massive explosions through his bedroom window or something to that effect.
- Haven't people been wanting the spotlight back on the humans for a while now? Roshi, Kuririn and Tenshinhan are all getting a chance to shine and all of a sudden fans are upset because a few of the Buu-era cast are absent. Did Goten and Trunks not have a major role in five of the past six movies (and one of those six doesn't really count, because it was the 10th Anniversary movie)? We had our reunion in BOG with the whole gang present, I don't see anything wrong with refining the cast this time around and having a bit more of a focus on certain characters. It means we have more time to invest in each character's situation, rather than being everywhere at once. I actually have to give Toriyama a thumbs-up for that. I feel like this movie is attempting to tell more of a story this time around, rather than simply being an exhibition of DB characters and in order to achieve that, I feel like there has to be more of a focus on a small-but-strong cast, rather than a large-but-weak one. I say "small", but we still have a pretty decent mix here. There will almost certainly be more movies where others get a chance to shine as well, so it's not like this is everyone's one and only chance to shine, which is how itfelt in the lead-up to the last movie. And as much as I like BOG, it was kind of all over the place at times and there were still complaints that certain characters got less screen-time than others anyway. The atmosphere and spirit of that film also made it necessary to have everyone there. It was a major aspect of the movie and at that point we didn't know if it would be their last "hurrah" on the big screen.
- Someone suggested in the chat that the exploding planet might be a flashback of Namek, but I'm now pretty convinced that Earth gets destroyed and Whis jumps back in time to prevent it.
I ended up going on a bit of ramble with that last one...
