Excited Future Trunks is returning, but what the deal with red scarfs in DB am I missing something?

I don't really see it as a big deal. The only other character who has a red scarf is Bulma.

If you scan the thread, you'll find practically everyone has differing opinions about this subject. No need to assume everyone feels the same way as I don't see evidence of one opinion overwhelming the other myself.

What's everybody's hopes for this arc?

I hope the new arc starts with Trunks escape. Where we're actually show, at least partially, the threat. Instead of Trunks showing up out of nowhere, cue monologue about the terror, the future currently faces.

I hope we get more enemies, instead of just this Goku Black, Present Trunks to interact with Future is another hope. Opportunity to expand the lore, from the participation of Kaioshin and the Omni-King.

It's hard to imagine much more, it's very difficult to me to guess how this plot will play out.

Why not show up at EoZ when his other self is an adult instead?

Because he needs to stop or change something that is gonna happen now and not then? The root of the problem is likely at this time frame. That's not a hard question, but really shouldn't be asked seriously when we know zero about the plot.

The more I think about it, the whole "Everyone will lose God ki, and memories erased by the end of Z" theory is becoming more and more plausible.

Sure, Toriyama would do that, because he's so worried about making GT fit.
I hope they don't forget to fuse Kaioshin and Kibito in the process of erasing memories and losing God ki, too.

I would certainly be interested in more enemies being a thing, especially because it could then allow other characters to get their momentary time to shine as well.

I think the bit that interests me the most is definitely the idea that, somehow, this deal between Future Trunks and 'Black Goku', is somehow actually a big enough deal to drag in the Gods as well. How that all is going to work has me very curious, despite some misgivings and vague feelings of '...Eh?' about the rest of it.

But again, hard to really call anything for sure until we start to see evidence of where it's all going, and even then I won't feel like I can make a real judgement call until it's all said and done, and I can look back at it all in context of itself.

Part of me really wants that now, just for the inevitable 'Xeno Trunks (Dual Sword Wielding)' card from Heroes, regardless of that not being the kind of sword one dual wields.

So what!? What if it is fan fiction!? Just enjoy a good story and don't worry about these "so-called" stupid rules. There has never been an Evil Goku in CANON material before. So this is a nice change of pace and original. Don't like it? Stay away.

You read my mind. Also I thought that part of the fun of Dragon Ball was there are no rules? It could go were it wanted.

Not to mention the fact that we have NO idea how it will turn out. It wouldn't be the first time people bitched about something which turned out pretty fun and unique. I must say i am stoked for this new story with Black Goku!

I second the above, and in addition:
-Let us know if Future Bulma is alive or not
-Future Trunks getting to meet some of the cast he hasn't met yet, but who his efforts changed the course of history for: (Kid Trunks, Goten, Videl, Pan, etc.)
-Some minions below Gokû Black
-For Gokû Black to still have undeniably Gokûesque personality quirks. Toei's usually pretty good at that whenever they bring dark counterparts out in Precure; having some core personality traits mirror, but in warped ways.
-No bringing in stuff from Xenoverse/DBO; I don't want to see Demigra or Towa or Miira or Time Kai or Toki Toki.
-Gohan and Future Trunks friendship
-Gokû Black pulls an F and offers Vegeta a chance to join him; Vegeta turns him down, regular Gokû is touched, Vegeta tells regular Gokû to shut up.
-If we can't use the F and Champa arc dougis again, then let's invent an additional set of new outfits for Gokû and Vegeta; I really don't want to be stuck back in the BOG outfits for a whole arc.

And after it's all said and done...maybe, finally we'll visit Planet Salad?

Wiping aside all skepticism, these are my hopes.

-Goku actually develops. He grows and acts differently from this experience. If he's gonna headline all the time, then he needs to evolve to retain interest.

-Present Trunks develops alongside his future self. The boys who really should be teens, are starving for development. They also do shenanigans, but never grow in more ways than one. A meeting of present and future could lead to something.

-We get the Gohan/Trunks dynamic that was sorely lacking in the Cyborg arc. Trunks as a character, as well as his background, can help bring a big payoff to Gohan's seeds of development planted in F.

-More Blacks . Might as well go the long yard and turn this fanfiction idea, into an amazing way to have the characters face themselves. I think Toriyama said it transcends time and space so let's add to that. Each one can represent a fault that the good versions need to fix. Goku for perhaps being too careless, which in the end costed that Goku everyone's lives. Vegeta if he gave completely into his demons, and let himself be brutal (Ok this is a retread, I'd like a better example too). Gohan for being too passive, which lead to people dying. Stuff like this. Though I may sound too dark which is a fine complaint, something even more lighthearted, but getting this message across is fine too.

-Omni King being very important for the arc.

-Beerus' and Whis' presence not ruining the drama and possibilities.

It depends on who you ask. I dislike Goku but pumped for Black Goku. Love Trunks but dislike the idea of Future Trunks coming back again. I feel like a darker version of Goku will be more relatable and raise the stakes while Future Trunks character may be potentially marred. All of this can go either way and it worries some people of how it will affect their characters legacies.

The "a battle that surpasses time and space" is an intriguing line. This one as well "Many mysteries will be revealed". I salivate imaging Dragon Ball with that eerie mystery surrounding Cell's initial appearance.

The way Mr.Toriyama describes it, gives me hope that we're in for a well of a ride.

I second this. Going to Sadla seems unlikely for this arc, but we can hope it comes into fruition before the tournament.

This one is hard, Goku's been pretty stale. His only struggle being to find the successor, which should culminate with Oob.

That makes me thing, I know there are tons of possibilities but I thought about Goku being possesed then thought "What would I do If I had Goku's Body". That train of thought led to something like Black Goku.
