How did you manage that with Frozen, of all movies? I took my daughter to it a month after it premiered, and it was still a full house. I heard that the situation in the US was pretty similar.MagicBox wrote:Still trying to decide if I want to see this or not. Nothing to do with the dub or anything; my last few theater experiences just haven't been too fun. I love seeing movies with crowds of other people, but at the same time... I *hate* seeing movies with crowds of other people. Maybe I can get lucky and have the whole theater to myself like I did with Frozen and Muppets Most Wanted.

I'm also wondering how the heck that was possible with Frozen. My girlfriend and I managed it with the first The Muppets, but even the sequel had a few other people there.

Quick tip if you're looking to purchase tickets on Fandango- I was checking the showtimes/prices for the nearest theater to me and it only showed dates up to August 7. If you swap the 7 for a 9 in the url, though, you can get the Saturday listings. I've yet to purchase my ticket, but it seems you can purchase those Saturday tickets now by messing with the url.

I'm still amazed that my girlfriend and I were able to get an empty theater for Frozen. No idea how it happened. We went on a Wednesday evening about a month-and-a-half after it came out. We're in a pretty crowded part of Georgia, too. Lucky fluke, I guess? We like to discuss the movies while we watch them so it worked out great. We went and saw Muppets during its last week in theaters here; I was happy to have the place to ourselves, but I kinda wish more butts had been in seats so that the film could have done better at the box office.
Oh... uh, Dragon Ball. So, regarding the theaters listed on FUNi's website. Are those all already guaranteed screenings, or only if they get enough ticket pre-orders?

They should be pretty much guaranteed. I've yet to hear of a screening like this getting canceled that late in the game (at least in the theater I'll be going to). I doubt they really expect every screening to sell out, especially with Guardians of the Galaxy being out (and Turtles during those Saturday screenings).MagicBox wrote:I'm still amazed that my girlfriend and I were able to get an empty theater for Frozen. There's quite a few Battle of Gods showings in Georgia. I might go with a friend.

I love seeing movies with crowds, you might as well stay home if you want to see it without a lot of people.

Re: Official On-Going DBZ 2013 Movie Thread: "Battle of Gods
It's not as simple as that, though. It's like I said in my previous message. I both love and hate seeing movies in theaters. The crowd you're with will make or break your experience, and possibly even affect your opinion of the film itself. When my girlfriend and I went to see The Muppets, we were the only ones in the whole theater laughing at anything. Nobody else made a peep; they just silently filed out of the theater once the credits started. It was awkward, it nearly ruined the movie for me, and I had a bad taste in my mouth until I got to revisit it on home video. Conversely, the crowd I was with for Toy Story 3 made the movie even better. They laughed at all the right times, cheered when it was appropriate, and knew perfectly well when to stay quiet.
The reason I'm hesitant to see this in theaters is because Dragon Ball has such a passionate, divided fanbase, which can be a blessing and a curse for stuff like this. If I'm gonna have to deal with a whole theater of people screaming "It's over 9000!" when Vegeta powers up to fight Beerus, I'd rather just sit the whole thing out. I get that I'm stereotyping and that I probably sound like a major prick right now, and I don't mean to. Just trying to elaborate on my earlier comment. And besides, there's no way to tell before I take the plunge and go to the theater, so I sorta feel like I'm not even making any kind of point right now. It could be an awesome experience; who am I to say anything?

As someone who worked at a movie theater for nearly 5 years, I can fully understand where you're coming from. A bad crowd can ruin even the best movies for a lot of people. You want to make sure you're in a good group of people; People who can pick up on the right "cues" in the film and respond appropriately. There's definitely a good chance that a theater of DBZ fans could give a sour experience.MagicBox wrote:It's not as simple as that, though. It's like I said in my previous message. That said, there's also a chance it could be awesome. And for such a big occasion as this, wouldn't it be worth the risk?

These crowds are among the reasons I'm not going. The main reason, however, is that I haven't actually seen the other movies or even the Buu arc outside of clips. That's right. It was only fairly recently I got into Dragon Ball, so I'm actually still in the process of seeing the series. I started with Dragon Ball and have now finished the Cell arc. So, I'm actually not even done seeing it in English, yet. I do know the general layout of what happens, though.

I just noticed i got an email this morning with that link in it. I checked it out, and a nice theater that's only about 30 minutes away from me is showing it. Nice, now i don't have to drive down to the shit-hole that is Milwaukee.SSJ3_Zack wrote:Anyone who wants to see Battle of Gods can order the tickets from this site: http://www.dragonballz.com/tickets/

I have high standards for people when I pay to see a movie. I don't want to hear unnecessary talking, I don't want to see your fucking cell phone out, if your kid starts screaming you take them outside immediately, and always be respectful towards everyone else there trying to enjoy the movie. Compared to me at least, you're no asshole.MagicBox wrote:It's not as simple as that, though. It's like I said in my previous message. I both love and hate seeing movies in theaters. So when do you guys think a home release in America will happen? I definitely give it until the end of the year. A better estimate would be either September or October.

I'm going by November or even early December. It's the holiday season and it'll probably make more money.ShadowDude112 wrote:So when do you guys think a home release in America will happen? I definitely give it until the end of the year. A better estimate would be either September or October.

I believe, if FUNi is smart, they release it in enough time for the holidays. Perhaps just a little before Black Friday. That would allow for a higher chance of sales, I think. That's the prime period for Christmas/holiday shopping, so they should release it before that.
EDIT: GmGoken beat me to it on that one, haha.

Oh goody. My theater two blocks away is playing it. Only once, though. That Wednesday night at 7:30 PM.
Ticket has been purchased.
EDIT - Correction: It appears to be playing two nights at my theater.
Movie runtime is listed as 1 hour 25 minutes.

Ok guys this is my first time seeing a limited release (not just DB) so I apologize ahead of time, but one question.
Do I have to buy them online, or can I just go the time of the showing and buy the tickets and just see the movie?
Any help would be appreciated

You know, it's funny, living in Norway and having been in Japan for nine months... I just think stuff like this sounds horribly annoying. Like, both Norway and Japan has that standard of remaining quiet throughout the entire screening. Granted I do of course sometimes hear people laughing at particularly funny bits and I remember there being applause at the end of Star Wars Episode 3... but in Japan though? Complete silence from start to finish. They even have a disclaimer at the start of each movie requesting, among other things, that the audience keep quiet while the movie is showing. I just feel like having the audience loudly reacting to the movie's highlights would just be distracting.MagicBox wrote:Conversely, the crowd I was with for Toy Story 3 made the movie even better. It's terrible in America when you have disclaimers at the beginning of the movies to not use your cellphones, then you have 100 people doing just that.
