DonieZ wrote:I don't understand what's with the sudden pessimism. Moving on from the unsupported assumptions of local multiplayer, the game generally is looking pretty interesting; in fact I'd dared say this is looking to be the most beautiful 3D open arena-styled DBZ game yet. Xenoverse has already surpassed all previous titles of the genre in terms of fluidity and authenticity of movement, for the first time characters are demonstrating unique hit-strings and combos, and finally they seem to be doing something interesting with the story mode. One thing I like about DIMPS is they always seem to have character (no I don't mean roster, in terms of personality), if you go to 0.55 in this link you see the way Goku knocks Vegeta into the air, chases him and does a stylish knockdown followed by a Kamehameha: http://youtu.be/EXKGwgLKco0 . I don't know about you guys, but it's little things like this which go a long way. After watching all of the gameplay videos from japan expo again I looked up some RB2 vids, and I have to say personally it is extremely boring to watch. There is no style, no flare; and nothing to it. Even with the game in it's pre-alpha with people who evidently barely know how to play, I find Xenoverse is still a lot more fun and interesting to watch.

Come 2015 and people will be saying "Tenkaichi who?", and a great day that will be.
I guess you're right (yesterday I had quite a bad day which might've affected the way I saw this but anyway) perhaps this will turn up to be something unexpectedly great and knowing Dimps' even though it's not their type of cooking when it comes to games like these I'm sure they'll try their best.

So, well, for now I have the game on a wishlist of PS4 titles, if the game drops down to £34-ish then I might pre-order despite not yet owning a PS4 (still lacks games of my interest to consider purchasing it).

Speaking of PS4, I hope PS3 is still a keeper? I talked to a guy who works at GameStop, and he said there's virtually no difference between the two, except that PS4 has a large selection of games that can be download as well as online stuff. I was going to buy it, but I decided to get PS3 instead because it's cheaper and there's no difference between them. I hope I didn't waste the money? I'm planning on buying DB XV for PS3 when it comes out.

No difference between PS4 and PS3? If I understand correctly, you talk about the consoles and not about XV, right?

Just look at this.
On topic, do we know when the next V-Jump will be out?

We all want more info on this game, but I'm sorry DragonBalllKaiHD, while Gamestop employees do enjoy games, they are hardly a reputable knowledge base for game content. Having been an employee there I can tell you they do not get any inside dev info that isn't available online for everyone else. The most they get is release dates/release windows and that's generally only shortly before an official announcement. This employee likely was only regurgitating ill-reported information from another source of ill-repute. NOTHING has been shown or stated that describes the difference between the two versions other than, what surely will be, a graphical/presentation difference.

It would be best that we all just stick to information reported on by Kanzenshuu or actual scans of things like V-Jump. Lots of people like to make things up on the internet.

V-Jump is released at exactly the same point of the month every single month: the 21st, dated for two months after that.

The only exception is when there's a holiday, such as this month. The 21st is "Ocean Day" (a national holiday), so the magazine will be out a little earlier on the 19th.

Oh, yeah. Graphic. If that's the only improvement, then I guess it's better to stick to PS3.

More importantly, frame rate and resolution. Half the PS3 games coming out feel like slideshows.

You're not taking into consideration PS3's Beyond Two Souls which could've easily been a PlayStation 4 launch title because it has that "next-gen" look which they were wanting so much to show off its potential (they did it with Killzone Shadowfall & Knack instead).

Screenshots from the PlayStation Store:
Then there's also Burst Limit which is the best looking to date Dragon Ball game we've got, but I'm sure Xenoverse will take the throne.
But well, these are supposed to be cartoony-looking games not with realistic graphics as that's not what Dragon Ball's about.

I dunno, this hardly looks like a PS4 game to me, it looks like a shinnier Budokai 3. All the jagged lines and drawn-on details looks just like the usual PS2 games. Nothing really blows me away at all but in this shot rather Vegeta's model looks pretty bad. His face is just weird looking and his body is very rough looking. Nappa's head is probably the best looking thing in this shot.

What I expect for the Ps4 is V-Jump Stars level models. That ^ looks more next gen. Currently Xenoverse looks like a PS2 HD release. Its that bad.

If that's all you want, then all you want is fanservice, rather than an actual coherent story. And of course those aren't mutually exclusive; you could have a coherent story with "shine" moments! But if a story is perfectly coherent (and I'm really not seeing any compelling arguments that this one is anything but, despite constantly recurring, really poorly reasoned, attempts to argue otherwise), and you're bemoaning the lack of "shine" moments as a reason for the story's poor quality, then you're letting your thirst for "shine" moments obfuscate your ability to detect basic storytelling when it's right in front of you.

You have to remember the game is still in development so the graphics are WIP.

Screens of Xenoverse taken from Shopto:
I've got to say these Xenoverse graphics kind of remind me of Wind Waker HD, which are also very cartoony and that's a good thing. Only brown shooter and R* games should take that route as they try to take a more serious sense on gaming than these type of games.

I want to say that the Xenoverse trailer may have been using PS3 assets, like with that shot of Vegeta and Nappa. I think the models will be more or less the same on each console, but the PS4 might have updated, better rendered textures and effects and whatnot. It really does remind me of Budokai 3 as well. Things did look better by time the Expo came, it looked crisp. Environment got better, the gameplay looked smoother (could just be the slight motion blur), I'm sure everything will fall into place soon enough.

I also agree, Burst Limit by far is the best looking DBZ to date, until we see how Xenoverse holds up in the end. If Xenoverse had flat colors and shades, it might be better, but I guess Dimps wants to keep some "realness" with this one.

those xenoverse screenshots you posted are just "photoshopped" that's why they appear so good, the real game will be like SingleFringe&Sparks's image, don't be fooled: it's still an alpha, but graphically it's already finished, believe me

No, those images aren't "photoshopped", maybe you should rewatch the videos and take another look at the scans. It's like you want the game to suck smh.

Bullshots with terrible textures (look at the rocks in the second last shot) and noticeable clipping (Gohan's arm in the second shot)? Bandai Namco's Photoshop team must be sleeping on the job again ...

This is a cross-gen game. I wouldn't be surprised if development is actually leading on PS3/360 with an up-port to current-gen platforms. It's probably built on the same underlying tech as the last Saint Seiya game from Dimps.
"I like the money it brings in, but Dragon Ball Heroes is the worst. That's actually the real reason I decided to start working on new material. I was afraid Bandai would make something irredeemably stupid like Super Saiyan 4 Broly." - Akira Toriyama, made up interview, 2013.

in terms of graphics, I'd say it really depends on what kind of tv/monitor you're using... I don't own an HDTV or any form of flatscreen or digital monitor so visuals look vastly different for me. Compared to when I play games at a friend's house (where I can see fluid motion, every pore and wrinkle, and some better effects on things like destruction and gore) things just do not look all that different to me when the games are developed within the same timeframe barring a later release to polish...

There are very few exceptions, though they mostly fall under remake vs port upgrade/console exclusives at one point. I won't deny that a game made in the early stages of next/current gen console lifespan looks very similar to a game made in near the end of the lifespan of the last generation...

Possibly, but the way Kanzenshuu's staff phrased the bit from the Japanese press release makes it sound like they are doing the opposite. Hard to say for certain, unless it's been elaborated on somewhere else that I don't remember.
Additionally, though the game is being developed for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and specifically with Dragon Ball as first series from Shueisha to hit the new consoles, the press release does specifically note that PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions are being created in order to reach a wider audience (which makes complete sense due to the previous generation’s large installed base of systems).
