Re: ep 72
Not necessarily. That's just how far out the home releases are listed at this point. Super isn't planned that far in advance is the thought I get.

The end is not the end until it is the end. The series will last at least seventy-two episodes.Low Tone G wrote:Yeah.. that's why I'm asking... Episode 72 will be the last one?Ajay wrote:Confirmed last week - http://www.kanzenshuu.com/2016/05/23/dr ... announced/

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
Doubtful, the show will likely keep going past 72, we just know that there are going to be at least 72 episodes because of the recent announcement of some future home releases.Low Tone G wrote: Yeah.. that's why I'm asking... Episode 72 will be the last one?
Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
They're just announcing the boxes in sets of three. When the series started they announced 1-3 (episodes 1-36), now they updated with 4-6 (37-72).
The series didn't end on 36, so..

Oh right, I didn't really get what you were asking.Low Tone G wrote:Yeah.. that's why I'm asking... Episode 72 will be the last one?Ajay wrote:Confirmed last week - http://www.kanzenshuu.com/2016/05/23/dr ... announced/
As others have said already, no, it's just that it'll last until at least that episode.
WIth series like Super, you generally don't get an end-date until the end is nigh.

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
Is the production in a phase where they can safely plan for 72 episodes, though? Apparently it is but could they, down the line, cancel one box set and adjust accordingly?
If they already have 72 episodes planned, could this be a sign that the production schedule is improving or they'll just fill that number over time? 25 episodes don't seem that much but it's possible they now want to produce smaller "Toriyama" arcs and some filler mini-arcs in between them. The problem would be Toriyama wanting to continue dishing out stories for Super since, as far as we know, he is only thinking about the upcoming Future Trunks arc and not ahead.
What do you guys think about this?

If the retailers are listing boxes up to #72 then it is very likely toei knows what they are doing. That is not to say that they are working on #72 at this moment but they are sure what they would do until #72.
Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
The only way I could see it getting cancelled out of nowhere is if something really bad happens like a huge earthquake or someone really important like Toriyama or Nozawa passing away.alakazam^ wrote:Is the production in a phase were they can safely plan for 72 episodes, though? I hope non of that happens but anything is possible.
July 9th 2018 will be remembered as the day Broly became canon.

That's extremely unlikely, i don't remember Toei ever doing that. Even for other companies, it's not common.alakazam^ wrote:Apparently it is but could they, down the line, cancel one box set and adjust accordingly?
If they announced 6 boxes, that's because it's been decided to air up to that point at the very least.

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
It's totally possible for the show to get canceled before we hit #72, but it's just not that plausible with a series this big. If we were super unlucky, a prominent cast or staff member could get caught with drugs, but I don't see that happening.

Even if that happened I doubt it would be enough to cancel it.B wrote:If we were super unlucky, a prominent cast or staff member could get caught with drugs, but I don't see that happening.

Yeah, they would just replace the VA. It happened with One Piece, when Ivankov's VA was arrested and he was a major player in the arc.sintzu wrote:Even if that happened I doubt it would be enough to cancel it.B wrote:If we were super unlucky, a prominent cast or staff member could get caught with drugs, but I don't see that happening.

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
On the topic of Super ending, how long into GTs run was it announced it was being cancelled? I heard it was supposed to be longer (like around 100?)
Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
I don't know about being cancelled, but GT had an almost one month break between the Baby's and Super 17's arcs. The only thing that aired that month was the Goku Jr. special in one week. There wasn't a break like that even during Z and GT itself, so something odd must have happened with the production at that point.Dbzfan94 wrote:On the topic of Super ending, how long into GTs run was it announced it was being cancelled? There was also a one month break between Z's episode 261 and 262.Neon Z wrote:GT had an almost one month break between the Baby's and Super 17's arcs. 61 aired on March 22nd while 62 aired on April 26th.
Kai was announced to be getting replaced 4 months in advance so maybe that's when they announced it was ending.Dbzfan94 wrote:

I haven't read anything about when they decided to end it, why or if there was anything planned beyond 64.

Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
You guys are reading way too much into this. They haven't announced the series is going to end or that the story has been written all the way up to episode 72, they're just announcing expected release dates for future box sets, that's all. As far as how long the show will last, Toei has never mentioned it in any of their press releases, but Masako Nozawa did say in an interview that she hopes the show goes on for a very long time, even longer than it's predecessor, and I don't think she would say that if Toei had an ending planned.
Re: Official Announcement Thread & Discussion
Ah, gotcha. That makes sense. Thank you! The 100 could have just been a rumor I heard from a long time ago. I wasn't necessarily implying that Super will end at 72, just curious how past DB shows ended to get an idea on how things will happen in the future.sintzu wrote:There was also a one month break between Z's episode 261 and 262.Neon Z wrote:GT had an almost one month break between the Baby's and Super 17's arcs. It is, I read it a few times over the years but it's not widespread like the franchise ending after Namek or Cell rumors.Dbzfan94 wrote:The 100 could have just been a rumor I heard from a long time ago.
