Re: Dragon Ball Z "Season One" Coming To Blu-Ray (Updated 11
I would like to see DBZ Movie 1-13 on Blu-Ray, but Toei being cheap might do a awful job. I think the Buu saga of Kai might be the only Blu-Ray of DBZ we might get next year.

By FUNimation, yes. But they still weren't quite as good as the Dragon Box release (especially when it comes to the Japanese audio track).

In fact, if you want to quickly create a popular image, simply over saturate the colors and increase the contrast. While you may not achieve a sophisticated image, you will achieve an image that will please a less demanding audience." - Alain Briot

If it looks as bad and average as Kai Cell did then I'll be skipping, unless they used new animation but Toei Animation's couldn't be bothered to do such thing.Hellspawn28 wrote:I would like to see DBZ Movie 1-13 on Blu-Ray, but Toei being cheap might do a awful job. Kai for me ended on Part Four anyway.

I rather doubt it would be worse than these. If anything I would expect them to use the same process as they did for the Dragon Boxes, providing us again with a presentation that, at worst, can only really be criticized for a lack of color-correction... and audio-quality that's less than ideal, yet still superior to every other country's release. Unless they were to actually decide to use those tapes of the original TV-broadcast audio.Hellspawn28 wrote:I won't give my hopes up since Toei has been known to be cheap and we could get Blu-Rays worst then from Funi.

I'd like to ask Funimation if these Blu-rays will use the Japanese opening and closing themes, rather than that stock-music sorta thing that was on the DVD seasons (and I'd like to say to them, please do this).
I couldn't get it working. Thanks anyway.KingofWisdom wrote:http://file2hd.com/Fizzer wrote:Is there any way to watch the trailer in the UK? FUNimation just hates us.
Try that.

I mean the recordings that kei has... which I've heard quite a few arguments for how Toei will probably never ever want to do anything with... Toei did indeed throw away their original audio-masters for the show, which is why the best we're gonna get is recordings of the original TV-broadcasts. Which, from what little is actually available of them to us common folks, are much clearer than the DBox-audio.Black_Anime_Fan wrote:I believe they tossed away those tapes, no?

Perhaps I am misunderstanding you, but do you mean to imply that Toei might release the Majin Boo arc of Dragon Ball Kai on home video in Japan, despite it not airing in Japan? I believe something similar happened with a Beyblade series, so I find it interesting you would suggest this.kei17 wrote:Kai sold like shit here, so I'm sure they'll release DBZ on Blu-ray someday. Why wouldn't they want to use it? It's technically their audio, only recorded off a television. It's not like it's been edited or changed in any way.Vegard Aune wrote:I mean the recordings that kei has... which I've heard quite a few arguments for how Toei will probably never ever want to do anything with... Can we ask FUNimation if the new Blu-rays selling well could help spur them to try another Dragon Box release for Dragon Ball for the "Japanese" fans who like the old-school, 4x3 experience? Or whatever happened to the Dragon Box Movies they supposedly had the rights to?

There seems to be this mentality where they don't want to put it out because it means admitting that their previous releases weren't as good as they could have been.Fennekin wrote:Why wouldn't they want to use it? The problem is Toei just doesn't have enough interest or are too lazy (probably the later) to go through the trouble getting the various TV recordings that exist, and putting forth the effort to go through splicing and cleaning up the audio for every single episode (although Toei wouldn't be in this mess at all if they would have done the smart thing and backed up the audio to a better quality source begin with).Fennekin wrote:Why wouldn't they want to use it? If Toei would stop and think for a moment they'd see that using a higher quality audio doesn't necessarily mean they're admitting to anything, if they wanted to they could argue in their defense that they only used what they had available to them and didn't know a higher quality audio source still existed at the time, don't forget and I can't stress this enough, it wasn't until after the DBOX's were released that people began to point the audio issues out to them, not only that but if the people who worked on the DBOX's were new to the company or the series how were they supposed to know what the audio was supposed to sound like?KingofWisdom wrote:There seems to be this mentality where they don't want to put it out because it means admitting that their previous releases weren't as good as they could have been.
If anyone has any of the DB/DBZ/DBGT or Maho Tsuaki Sally Japanese single DVD's that they'd be interested in selling send me a PM and I'll see if we can work something out.

Even though I'm getting all the Blue Season Sets this Christmas, I would gladly buy the dragonball Dragon-boxes if they released them as well. and that's a good question ''What happened to Dragon-box: the movies?''G1Ravage wrote:Can we ask FUNimation if the new Blu-rays selling well could help spur them to try another Dragon Box release for Dragon Ball for the "Japanese" fans who like the old-school, 4x3 experience? The Dragonboxes are like a middle aged woman who still looks good through simply taking good care of her skin and body with maybe a tiny bit of makeup while the Orange Bricks are like a middle aged woman who get's 50 tons of botox, makeup and plastic surgery in order to look younger and as a result looks even worse. ~ ringworm128

It's getting to the point where I'd like to see some of these movies again, and I might just cave in and buy the DVD collections. Haven't seen some of these since I rented them at Blockbuster all those years ago. I guess it's not FUNimation's fault (at least when it comes to having masters inferior to Toei), but I hate how there always has to be a "No wait, this is the proper release!"
The Season One Blu-Ray has now made it into the top five of Amazon's Blu-Ray Best Sellers for anime at #4. I guess it's no surprise when you're paying less than $1 per episode.

Maybe they're thinking "Dragon Ball Z is already on DVD, are you expecting a second release?" while everywhere else DBZ has come out more times than a gay guy with amnesia.KingofWisdom wrote:There seems to be this mentality where they don't want to put it out because it means admitting that their previous releases weren't as good as they could have been.Fennekin wrote:Why wouldn't they want to use it? I don't know whether they will really release it, but why not? Early this year they bothered to re-release the existing Kai DVDs/Blu-rays with the replacement score though they're almost unprofitable. Also, direct-to-video would sell more than something you can watch on TV for free.JulieYBM wrote:Perhaps I am misunderstanding you, but do you mean to imply that Toei might release the Majin Boo arc of Dragon Ball Kai on home video in Japan, despite it not airing in Japan?
