I'm about halfway through the junior novelization. So far it's about what I expected, though the high school stuff wasn't as bad I feared it would be. Lots of change for the sake of change.

Anyone here seen the Japanese trailer yet?!

Would have been nice if they had at least gotten Nozawa to lend her voice for the dub.

• Goku's full name is Son Goku
• Chi Chi McRoberts and Mai are the only people to fight in the movie version of the Tenkaichi Budokai
• Bulma's last name is Enchanto, and she's searching for the Dragon Balls to harness their power to create a limitless supply of electricity and become famous
• Yamucha is a ladies man, and agrees to join the quest if he gets a percentage of the royalties from Bulma's Dragon Ball energy crisis solution
• Yamucha and Bulma flirt a bit before the final confrontation, knowing that they could both be dead in a matter of hours
• Goku's pole is called Nyoibo, and can extend
• Goku never says, "I'm not ready for this!"
• Ki is used to bend the three elements: fire, water, air
• Kamehame-Ha is the highest form of airbending, and it's spelled as "Kame-hame-ha" in the novel
• Everytime Goku comes into contact with a new Dragon Ball, he has visions of Oozaru the Destroyer crash landing on Earth, and his friends having been killed by him
• The scene in the trailer with Goku firing ki blasts at those torches with Chi Chi, he's firing Kamehame-Ha blasts
• Piccolo and Oozaru the Destroyer attacked Earth 2000 years ago; Piccolo was sealed with the "Ma Fu Ba"
• The blood moon eclipse, which is formed when there's an eclipse and Earth and Planet Vegeta are aligned, calls forth Oozaru the Destroyer

• No Saiya-jin has ever reverted to normal after having transformed into an Oozaru

• Goku accepts that he's both Goku and Oozaru, and that he must combine both halves of his self to defeat Piccolo, thus becoming a Saiya-jin/Oozaru hybrid
• The Saiya-jin/Oozaru hybrid Goku has fangs, his muscle mass increases, and his eyes glow red...an Evolved Saiya-jin (ESJ)? The concept is very similar to SSJ4, but he doesn't turn into it from Oozaru, but rather from his normal form. His appearance still mostly looks like Goku, he's not FishFace!

So, Goku is Jacen Solo, some really stupid jackass decided that Bulma and ChiChi needed stupid ridiculous "WTF are you smoking, dumbass?" last names, Bulma is a none-too-subtle outlet for the current energy situation (zompanda conex w/ the audienz~!), "Air-bending" is beyond a blatent Avatar reference, Yamcha isn't so bad, I'm not sure what I think about the new SSJ4, planet alignment was only ever used in the freaking Garlic Jr Saga and should not be invoked ever ever again (But I do sorta understand the eclipse thing, since the full moon makes the story harder. Doesn't mean I have to like it, but now I just sound cranky. ), and I simply don't like the weird Namekian/Saiyan hybrid backstory changy thing... Even without going into Kami and all that complexity, the new backstory is so incredibly pointless it makes my teeth hurt. (Wait, maybe that's the four cookies I ate while reading this... ).

So now that I'm done being an ass, I think I'm going to try and avoid things with spoiler tags from now on in the event that anymore information about Yamcha comes out, since he is now the part of the movie that I have vague mustardseed-sized hope in. (I am not happy that his defining character trait was completely inverted to the delight of BXV fanfiction cliches, but I guess it's not as bad as ... everyone else. 'Cept Piccolo. Piccolo might be awesome. Well, and Mai. Dunno.).

But you know, it'd be cool to get a dragonball movie at some point. .

1. Chi-Chi and Bulma having last names is a good thing for me.

2. What if Daimao lied to the heroes about the Saiya-Jin's backstory? Maybe he just led a bunch of renegade Saiya-Jin(Plural) on an invasion to Earth?

3. Maybe the Saiya-Jin from 2000 years ago couldn't revert back to their humanoid forms? Like I said before, a lot may have change in 1982 years.

4. Maybe Daimao is misinformed on the Saiya-Jin transformation requirements, in terms of reverting back to their humanoid state?

..... Hmn. That was interesting. Not so bad, but... I'm still not convinced on Son (though I love hearing him called Son) and I'm worried about Yamcha. I'm going to worry about him until I see how his impending screwed-over is handled. Oi my poor puppy.

I think the backstory comes from Roshi, but your guess is as good as anyone's at this point. *Thinks "lies" makes 'fixing' things in a possible sequel easier, so likes the idea*.

And I'm ok with this so long as it's used well.

Since Goku probably reverts, this is almost a given. I dunno.

Eh, so far all we've gotten (at least, those of us that haven't seen / read / Etc the thing) is in pieces; what'll be interesting is if it actually falls together well.
I still feel like it'll be interesting on its own, but "adaptation" would be a stretch. Egh, time will tell.

I like Avatar, but aww no earth-bending? (Though the castle-from-the-ground in the trailer looks a lot like it.)
And bleh, this is Dragon Ball; ki is supposed to come from inside you, not the "elements".

I still don't like the whole convoluted backstory and eclipse thing Piccolo's got going on. And if Planet Vegeta's mentioned, does that mean that Freeza never blew it up in this?

I still don't like "Enchanto" and I still really don't like "McRoberts".

Yamcha and Bulma flirting...meh, not too bothered by it. "Ladies Man" Yamcha makes me think way too much of pimp!Yamcha though. ^^;


So yah; I'm no longer "AAUGH" angry about certain changes ('cept Chatku and his "wide range" of expressions that range from bored and really bored) but instead dully irritated and accepting in that I can't do anything about it and it won't change the manga and anime itself.

I'm going to reserve any negativity I have until I've been able to watch the Movie myself. There's a lot of things that I don't like from what I hear, but alternate plot elements don't bother me as much as out of character personlities. Which I'll need to see for myself to assess.

However I WILL say that I'm very happy to see some terms not known in the FUNi Dub in there. Such as "Son", "Nyoibo", & "Mafuba". So hey, good on them.
