Official On-Going DBZ 2013 Movie Thread: "Battle of Gods"

They took a little kanji off of the cover for the US release. It's not a first world problem, everyone knows it's a Japanese anime. It's not like they're turning rice balls into cheese burgers.

My comment wasn't just about that but all these complaints I'm seeing like

"The 20th Centuary Fox logo is 20% larger than it should be it's so obnoxious and completely ruins the other 99% of the cover."

or

"That small red line at the top of the cover is so devastating to my eyes that I might have to import a differently designed cover from another country."

It's just a Blu Ray cover. It'll spend most of it's life on a shelf where you'll only see the side of it anyway.

^I've got to agree that cover debates are a little pointless. Then again, if the cover was perfect, there'd be nothing to complain about.

I would agree that it's certainly an interesting point that for some reason FUNi's is the only cover to remove it...but at the same time, let's not pretend this is anywhere near them trying to cover up the fact that DBZ is Japanese. The Japanese version is still going to be on there, and Sabat has been rather adamant at how amazing the story Toriyama worked on for this movie was in promotion of the film, so they're not trying to hide anything. I don't know why the kanji is suddenly missing, but to me, that's just a minor thing anyway. The cover is about 90% the same no matter where you live and pick one up, since they all seem to be using that same original theatrical poster.

If anything, it'd be kind of nice to maybe have that one that was re-touched so that Gohan wasn't in Super Saiyan form, but eh. A cover is a cover in the end, at least for me.

I missed out last week because it was sold out and I hadn't preordered a ticket. This week I made sure to do so and went along to this afternoon's screening (up in Auckland).

You pretty much summed up how I felt about it so I won't bother typing out an essay, but I will say one thing. The highlight of the day for me was, on the way out of the theatre, hearing a kid who must have been like 6 years old explaining to I assume his dad.

"At the end, all the pictures that were showing up next to the credits? Those were all the most important parts of Goku's life right from the start of Dragon BALL to the end of Dragon Ball *Z*."

It's been done but it just didn't look very good at all. Gohan was out of place.

Again I was baited. I clicked, I hoped and no Darwin. UGH. My BoG hype is dying down now anyway. Still doesn't take away the fact I'm still mad. Oh well bring on October 4th.

Ok Jullian that legit made me laugh. I decided to just watch the Extended Japanese version and now I don't even care. The movie was better on my second viewing though i just enjoyed the movie all the much more. The music stood out to me a lot this time. As for the cover debate Madman usually (but not always) include clean reversible covers, taking out the rating the logo's. Strong World however did not have one so guess we will wait to November.

*checks other anime dvds* Actually a lot of them don't have kanji on their covers yet this is the first complaint I've heard of. Only Funimation ones I have that do are Fairy Tail and Date A Live. High School DXD, Magical Index, Maken-Ki, One Piece, and Ouran don't have kanji on their covers, and never heard complaints about it.

Also, the kid-versions of Pilaf's crew are adorable but Shoo being in love with Trunks (or something like it) just didn't feel right because she's old enough to be his mother, still it was quite funny to see it.

Shu is the one that looks like a dog (or a fox...). I have to say, though, if he was the one in love with Trunks, that would be hilarious... and a little disturbing.

How many years are between BOG and GT? Its entirely possible they managed to find the balls in that time period to wish to be adults again only for that to backfire and make them old instead of their ages they were before becoming children.

True, but to be fair, the Japanese trailers all did that too really.

Hmm...while I kinda still like Doc Morgan better (though I never had a problem with Kyle's narration either, I just understood it was going for something far different than the Japanese version was), it sounds like Kyle has dialed it back quite a bit for this. And dammit, I didn't need any more hype for this! I need this movie in my hands now. Grrr.

You're forgetting that Dragon Ball (inc. BoG) is a lighthearted, comical and positive series/films, sure there are times when it's serious (Freeza arc, Piccolo Daimao arc, 21st/22 Tenkaichi Tournament arc) but it tends to be mostly an entertaining all-out hilarious show.

Dubs tend to make their own thing as opposed to the original content so it makes the dub-fans think differently (the ol' FUNimation dub made Goku into Superman with that speech of "ally to good, nightmare to you").
