Ayres' acting for Freeza is phenomenal. I'll stand by this, indefinitely.

Hmm, I have to admit he no longer sounds like Newstone. That said, I'm even less sure of how I feel about him now. It's taking some getting used to (granted I'm only occasionally watching the show in clips people link to here). Maybe it was just him getting used to the role, but it does seem like another one of FUNimation's pussyfooting around by making him sound as much like the old thing as possible and then easing them into it rather than just doing it correctly from the get-go. I don't know why I should be surprised by this at this point.

Indeed, to say Linda is even in the same dimension as Chris is ridiculous at best. People need to actually sit through entire episodes and pay attention. Whether you care for the actual voice Ayres uses or not is irrelevant to all the great subtle nuances and inflections his performance brings.

Freeza is in excellent hands, in fact , as improved as the Kai dub is, Chris's Freeza makes me wish most of all the major players had his talent. Seriously, sometimes I feel like I'm watching a higher class of dub whenever Freeza opens his mouth.
The little things we take for granted in genuine acting Chris brings to the table, the guy makes it sounds so damn natural. I mean, just listen to that chuckle Freeza gives when the elder protects his children, Chris is so utterly condescending as he laughs that there is no acting there, he literally is Freeza.

I like it because I know good acting when I hear it, along with all the other recasts Kai has had thus far. Also, while far from perfect, I find Nadolny's Goku to be tolerable not to mention age appropriate.

I don't like Clinkenbeard any more or less, from what I've heard of her. Which is part of the problem. She's an awesome VA but her Gohan's as bad as Nadolny's was, just for different reasons. No where near as good as I expected from her.

Rial's just annoying. She reminds me way too much of Season 3 Bulma. >_<

Compared to Young's acting, Chris Ayres' is phenomenal.

Also, what kind of argument is "Oh, just because it's more like the Japanese counterpart that doesn't mean that it's any better"?

Because yes, actually, it does.
No, it doesn't. Imitation takes second place to actual acting. No matter how close something sounds to the Japanese version if the acting is crap then the voice is crap.

Apparently it went right over your head. :?

Could you please provide perhaps a comparison clip or example of just how much Chris Ayres's acting is crap? To say his acting is crap is one thing, but to say it is worse than Linda as Freeza?

I always thought Linda's acting was decent enough, but it was just so high-pitched (aside from the pitched down second and third Frieza forms, and the incredibly forced Season Three fourth form) and continued to get even higher in pitch as time went by...

Nuff said, decent and good aren't in the same league. IMO, Ayres is in the league of great, never mind good.

I agree, but I'm just stating that I never really had a problem with her acting itself, it's just that I never found the voice appropriate. Ayres just really nails the gentleman aspect of Frieza that Young just most likely couldn't nail with her voice (especially considering what Sabat has said), which is just too high pitched (and sounds much worse when she tries to deepen it). We haven't heard enough to yet discern as to whether or not he can get the psychopathic, childish rage aspect or not though...

He's been nailing every aspect of the character so far that I have full confidence that he will. There's no denying that Chris is just a seasoned actor period, he's given me no reason to doubt him in the role.

Linda Young's a good voice actress and can do some fantastic work. Her Freeza work was reflective of a lot of the original dub's flaws. Bad voice direction at times, inaccurate script, etc. I think she could have done a great Freeza with the improvements to the dub that they have done. That said, I do like this new dub voice actor as well.

Yeah, I think he's forgetting the fact that the FUNI actors were hired as voice imitations to begin with, including Freeza.

Her age, combined with her natural voice and range guaranteed she NEVER would have made a great Freeza.

Don't we have a thread dedicated to Freeza already?

Anywho, I'm sure a lot of you have speculated that certain members of the Ginyu Force will be recast. I'm banking on it, too, and I haven't heard anything definite one way or another about them being recast except for something about ReaCoom. Or maybe I was hearing about ReaCoom from DBZ Abridged. I don't remember.

Sabat claims the Ginyu Force is an "all-star" cast or something like that. It would be interesting if they got some celebrities in just for those roles. Though that might cause some controversy when they inevitably don't return for Video Game roles, they are just some small parts in Kai.

Lady Gaga as Ginyu, let's make it happen.

It might, but I know it'll cause no problems for me personally. The last Dragonball game I bought was Attack of the Saiyans and that uses the Japanese cast.

...to put a cap on THIS rumor before it gets outta hand, "All-star cast" coming from FUNimation means popular actors from -their- talent pool, not actual celebrities. The same term was used for when the Tsubasa Chronicles cast was announced, way back.

Anywho.

Actually, she reminds me of the Japanese actress, who has various sides to her personality. Bulma's character is supposed to be at times overbearing, along with being caring and vulnerable. If you want a superficially attractive voice for her you don't understand the character.

"I pity da fool that messes wit da G-Team!"

The new Bulma reminds me of Ocean Bulma. The previous FUNimation Bulma was too whiny for me.

Mignogna as Butta, please let it be so.

What "popular" FUNi actor isn't already in this? Tatum is Zarbon, Willingham is Cell... Though, Willingham could play more than one character... Chris Patton as somebody?
