DragonBall Z Kai TV Network Version (CW4Kids\Toonzai\Vortex)
Re: DragonBall Z Kai TV Network Version (CW4Kids\Toonzai) Edits!
...I must obtain this footage, animated. It would be so great for a joke in my DB parody series.

I'm sorry I couldn't resist.

This is the first thing that came into my head while watching the episode.

"Why so blue, green man?!"
Well, I guess that quote's not entirely applicable here...

Oh. Just... oh. I don't really know what to say to that. Somebody needs to be smacked, though.
Blue Popo, my ass...

A blue Popo with yellow lips? That's racist!
And Why blue? Was it the least offensive color they could come up with?

I just found it on YouTube.

Can't say I blame them, Mr. Popo has a pretty racist design. They could've done a better job on the edit though, but I guess that doesn't matter that much.

Yeah I gotta agree with Taku though..
Mister Popo is, visually? Kinda offensive.
And in Japanese? He's REALLY offensive actually..

Definately. Which is why I think his English voice is better than his Japanese voice.Soul wrote:Yeah I gotta agree with Taku though..

I'd love to see TeamFourStar's Mr. Popo's response to blue Mr. Popo.
On hiatus.

He'd sing "Blue (Da Ba Dee)" by Eiffel 65. Actually, the more I think about it, I'd love to hear TFS's version of Popo sing this song.Chuquita wrote:I'd love to see TeamFourStar's Mr. Popo's response to blue Mr. Popo.

A lamp? What does Popo have to do with a lamp?AgitoZ wrote:I mean he is just a deity enslaved to a lamp and a green alien who happens look black. That's not of.... Oh wait.![]()
And, bah, that was totally unnecessary. I thought it was bad enough when Viz painted over his lips, but this is just ridiculous. I've seen plenty of people tease the character of Popo for having a resemblance to stereotypical portrayals, but I've never heard of anyone seriously up in arms about it. If it was perfectly fine on broadcast television in '96, I can't for the life of me figure out why he's blue now! Then again, I also can't figure out why Goku has a ball of light over his head or any of the other stupid censors, but eh...

True. I haven't seen it in motion but just from that screencap he looks blindingly radioactive!

We all joked about it, but it actually happened. I don't know what to say.

As a black person I was never even offended in the first place. I mean...he's not even human. One would think it'd be even more offensive for them to change the color.

Re: DragonBall Z Kai TV Network Version (CW4Kids\Toonzai) Edits!
I agree. It's like the issue with the priest in The Little Mermaid where everyone thought that... protuberance was an erect penis while Disney had claimed for years it was just his knee scuttling around in his erratic movements. Being the mature and sensible person that I am (
) I always took Disney at their word. But then the 2006 DVD came out, and, whatever it was, it was digitally edited out. And I admit that pissed me off, both at having the movie edited in the first place, but also because since they cowed to silly urban legends and puerile joking among fans, it seemed to validate that those urban legends were right in the first place. This isn't quite the same thing since it's a decision made by an independent body, but it still just seems pointless, especially considering the TV series has never made an issue about it before now, be it in the '90s under Saban, the Toonami run, or, even concurrently, on Nicktoons!

This CW version is doing more harm than good. Everything about it is one big joke. Its an incomprehensible mess. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm off to watch more Nicktoons.
